## **Visit to Lesotho - WCIA**

WCIA Heritage Advisor Craig Owen travelled with the Dolen team out to Lesotho in October – November 2024, to support heritage work surrounding the Bicentennial of Lesotho (the 200th Anniversary of the nation’s founding), with the aim of developing learning materials for schools on a variety of themes and topics. As well as furthering existing educational research with NUL National University of Lesotho, the project visit fostered new connections with Morija Museum & Archives and Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village - which were further built upon with a teachers exchange and site visits in February 2025.

From this work, a series of 19-20 topic briefs were curated over Spring 2025, identifying for each topic a wide range of resources, archives and exploratory activities with which Dolen can ‘bring learning to life’. An example resource pack was drafted to illustrate a range of approaches to presenting individual topics – focusing on arts and crafts through the story of Basotho Blankets (and the stories they convey), using the national blanket collection at Morija Museum as a stimulus. Elements from this ‘blankets draft pack’ have been selected and piloted by Dolen with a number of schools.

A ‘historical timeline’ resource was also drafted, with the aim of securing future funding to produce a game or similar fun learning activity looking back over Lesotho’s 200 and Dolen’s 40 year history.* An ‘online timeline’ example can be viewed at Heritage of Dolen Cymru.

Yn ystod fy mhresenoldeb yng Nghymru, rydw i wedi sylweddoli nad oes sbwriel na gwastraff yn cael ei golli ym mhobman, yn lle hynny mae gan bron bob lle fin sbwriel sydd wedi'i rannu'n ddwy ran: ar gyfer deunyddiau i'w hailgylchu ac ar gyfer gwastraff. Mae'r weithred yn chwarae rhan fawr wrth leihau'r siawns o newid hinsawdd.
