WYMONDHAM DEMENTIA SUPPORT GROUP Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2024 STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT a. Governing Document Constitution adopted on 24 June 2011 as amended on 4 October 2013. b. Appointment of Trustees Trustees are appointed erther by the Charity in general meeting or by the other Trustees They serve for a period of four years. being eligible to seek re-election for a further three years, after that they retire. c. Risk managemènt Trustees have identified that the major risk to the organisation is its over dependence on funding by way of grants and donations. Consequently, the charity has attempted to increase the amount it raises from its ovm fund raising events to improve its financial sustainabiltty. The Trustees will continue to monttor and review OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives The following objects are for the benefit of people with dementia and their carers within the area of Wymondham and district in the county of Norfolk.. 1. to promote and protect good health: and 2. to provide or assist in the provision of faulrties in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation with the object of improving their conditions of life. b. Activities Dementia Support Group mainly serves the town of Wymondham and its surrounding villages, although some individuals with dementia and their carers come from other parts of Norfolk where the service we provide may not be available. The objectives of the Charity have been met by providing a variety of activities for people living with dementia and their carers. Our main activity is the Pabulum Café held every Monday and Friday which provides a safe. friendly and understanding meeting place where refreshments and I￿ht lunches are served. Page 2

WYMONDHAM DEMENTIA SUPPORT GROUP Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2024 ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2023124 has seen an ever increasing demand for the Group's services. Both weekly cafés have seen the number of attendees increase w'ith the Friday café being very close to capacity on many occasions reinforcing the necessrty of the pre-booking procedure. The increased numbers place additional demands on our organisers and volunteers. With the facilities in the Church being limrted it will be a continuing challenge to ensure we provide a safe environment for our members living with dementia and their carers. We have always recognised the benefits of external trips to our members and it was good to be able to arrange trips to Bressingham Gardens and Steam Museum, the Pantomime in Gorteston and the Christmas Party at Wymondham Rugby Club Other events during the year induded Regular afternoon llea" dances Structured reminiscence sessions Vintage transport day Bingo sessions Fish and Chip lunches In addition, the Group celebrated Its 15 birthday in March 2024. It says much for the foresight and wisdom of those individuals who set up the Café in 2009 that the Group is still going strong and the services provided are still in great demand. The Group spent over £9,000 with an extensive re-modelling of the garden area to upgrade the facilities and make the whole area easier to access for those with restricted mobiltty_ Our thanks to the many local businesses who contributed materials and labour and to our team of volunteers who assisted with this project. The garden was renamed the 'Trevor Brown Happiness Garden" and officially opened by Lady Dannatt. In view of the age and health profile of many of our members. the Group funded the installalion of a defibrillator at the Church. To reinforce our relationship with the community this was installed externally and is available for use by the general public should the need arise. Page 3

WYMONDHAM DEMENTIA SUPPORT GROUP Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2024 ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE (continued) The Board of Trustees has remained constant throughout the year with the exception of Brenda Groucoul who reluctantly stepped down due to other work commitments Brenda has been a great supporter of the group and we thank Brenda for her valuable contributions during her time as a Trustee. The demand for our services from the wider community in South Norfolk has continued throughout the year with increasing numbers of new applicants coming lo the café's once again. None of the support we provide to our members would be possible without the support of our loyal volunteers giving their time, experience and energy We are also indebted to our two dedicated organisers Deborah and Sarah who continue to manage our activtties with good humour and efficiency. We were very pleased that volunteer representatives from the Group were able to attend the "Norfolk Community Champions" event at the Norfolk Showground as part of the celebrations for the coronation of King Chartes 111. We also need to pass on our thanks to the local business community and the general public in Wymondham and South Norfolk who continue to support our activities so generously. Finally, we thank Lady Dannatt, our Patron, for her o)ntinued interest in and support of the Group throughout the year. Page 4

WYMONDHAM DEMENTIA SUPPORT GROUP st Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 March 2024 FINANCIAL REVIEW a. Receipts and Payments The charity reported net outgoing resources of £21,825 for the year (2023 net outgoing £8,144) b. Balances Our balances as at 31" March 2024 totalled £68,278 (£90.102 as at 31 March 2023). c. Reserves Policy The Trustees had previously determined that a reserve equivalent to at least twelve monlhs expenditure would be prudent in view of the uncertain nature of the main income sources. The current level of reserves exceeds this primarily due to a large legacy received in 2020 and £27,000 received in 2022 from the closure of The Wymondham Day Care Centre The trustees are comfortable with the current higher level of reserves, but wll consider opportunities to develop ServI￿S in the future as opportunities arise. d. Principal Sources of Funds Grants and donations are the Charity's main source of funds. DECLARATION This report was approved by the Trustees on 22 May 2024 and signed on their behalf by AEScott Page 5
