Aims and Objectives for the Public Benefit
Based in and around North London, SoleStar is a Performing Arts Company, it was created to allow all children and adults, the opportunity to learn from industry professionals. The focus of the company's activity is to promote, encourage, and advance knowledge and participation in the performing arts in their various aspects.
The company’s unique and diverse approach to modern musical theatre, stems from the tutor’s individual interests in cutting edge performing art styles.
We offer affordable and subsidised regular classes and workshops, which are inspiring, confidence building, educational and above all 'enjoyable'. Delivering disciplines of Acting, Singing, Dance and performing in a professional environment. Whether performing is a pastime or a career choice, we encourage participants to develop at their own pace. We currently deliver various workshops and structured classes to primary, SEN, secondary schools and college/university level students.
The Trustees confirm that in exercising their powers and duties they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission.
Directors Report
This year SoleStar company students attended Starpower International Dance Competition. This is an event hosted by one of the biggest American Talent organisations, and the students had an exciting day at The Shaw Theatre. As well as performing on the day, they had the opportunity to watch some incredible dance pieces in a variety of styles. The SoleStar teams had absolutely incredible results again this year:
Spring 2024 – Starpower Dance Competition & A in class Circus skills workshop.
The Starlet street dance team won 1st place in their group, 2nd place overall high score award in their age division. Plus, an invitation/scholarship for Battle On The Seas cruise!
The Junior street dancers also won 1st place in their group, 1st place overall high score award in their age division…And Regional Champions (highest score of the afternoon!!)
The summer production this year was our own musical theatre version of the ‘Peter Pan‘ story. It was performed at Heartlands High School, in their drama studio. As the students were familiar with the original story, they had lots of their own ideas to add into the production.
Summer 2024 – Summer ‘Peter Pan’ Musical Performance
The cast of 35 children from the ages of 4 to 12 years performed brilliantly to an audience of friends and family. The opportunity to perform in a setting with stage lighting and in costume, is such an important part of becoming a well-rounded and experienced performer.
During the Autumn term, students worked on making a Halloween music video. In preparation they created their own ‘Villain’ characters, devised small dramatic scenes, learned lyrics and choreography. They had a great day filming and were wonderfully professional.

In December we presented the students end of year showcase, once again at Heartlands High School. The current students were presented with various awards recognising ‘most improved’ in each class, and other awards including our annual ‘The Power Cup’ and ‘Rising Star’ Award.

Although the company classes have been a delight and made such huge progress and improvement, class numbers are very low. We are grateful to Riverside School for use of their facilities, where we have relocated the classes there permanently to save costs to running classes. We said goodbye to one of our longstanding class tutors Zoe, but welcomed some new tutors and ex-student volunteers. It is so heartwarming to have them return to give back to the next generation of SoleStar students.
The workshops we have delivered in education settings have been very well received this year and it’s great to have schools sign up for courses to be deliver for the full academic year. Types of workshops provided
are creative Arts workshops, PPA cover, curriculum topic exploration through dance/drama, PE dance lessons and enrichment sessions.
In addition to in-school workshops/courses we now offer students of individual schools access to our lunchtime clubs. These are a great way for more young people to participate in performing arts. They are very low cost to parents/families, but we also provide between 2 to 5 free places per club for those identified by the school who would benefit the most from this offer.

ACCOUNTS
Income from Workshops have increased, as well as starting to see income from our new in-school lunchtime clubs. There was a small amount of regular income from class fees, but lower than the previous year.
Although there were very little outgoings for rent or studio/theatre hire, there continues to be costs running the administration and general expenses for performances. Professional fees and insurance expenses were similar to previous years.
Any reserves will help to continue to provide participants from low-income families with subsidised places both for weekly classes and in-school lunchtime clubs.

Future Plans
As ever, is vital that we increase the number of participants attending weekly classes, to balance the cost of staff costs through fees and membership. We will be entering Starpower international dance competition again in the Spring term, where all of our children’s street dance classes will be competing. End of term performances are crucial to securing more members and retaining students. We will work to keep performance costs to a minimum to offset the increase in costs. We feel it is vital that opportunities and experiences for students and their families, remain accessible.
We will be recruiting more volunteers to assist with weekly classes, performances/event and admin. Continuing to expand our work in school/education settings, delivering workshops and extended school activities, as well as developing relationships with local authorities, will in-turn increase public knowledge and participation.

Report to the trustees
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 04 / 04/ 2025 .
Responsibilities and As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the basis of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
