The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. The trustees meet together as a body monthly and are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to running the centre and the community facilities and the activities provided by the charity. To assist in the smooth running of the charity the trustees have employed a number of personnel that help them oversee certain aspects of the charity's work. Personnel are currently employed for finance and for the day-to-day management of the building and report back with their recommendations to the full meeting of the trustees. The day-to-day management of the centre and community facilities and projects are delegated to the personnel. ## **Section C Objectives and activities** To further or benefit the residents of Manchester and the neighbourhood, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, **Summary of the objects of the** voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and **charity set out in its governing document** to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents. March **2012** **TAR** 2 **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power: To establish or secure the establishment of a community centre and to maintain or manage or co-operate with any statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the charity in furtherance of the above objects. **The charity carries out a wide range of activities in pursuance of its charitable aims. The trustees consider that these activities, summarised below, provide benefit both to those who uses our community centre and the wider community of Greater Manchester and neighbouring cities. CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES:** The community centre provides place for our prayers and worship and for the activities associated with our faith. During the year under review, we offered and conducted a range of religious and cultural services and activities including: _**Prayers:**_ Our centre is open for daily and weekly prayers. During the week, we have over 15 people who regularly attend daily prayers and over 150 who regularly attend weekly prayers. _**Festivals:**_ our centre prepares food during holy month for those attending our activities and wish to break their fast together. Religious festivals i.e. Eid was also celebrated at our centre with a family day and communal meal. _**Raising funds**_ : each week on Fridays the charity invites a voluntary chef to cook Turkish foods to raise funds for the Charity. **COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES** Our community centre hall and rooms provide a valuable educational and recreational resource to all in our local community. A wide range of activities are organised and take place from our community centre. _**Turkish language courses:**_ Turkish Consulate General in London appointed a Turkish language teacher to teach Turkish language and culture to pupils and adults at Manchester Turkish Community Centre. _**Supplementary school and homework support:**_ at weekends and during school holidays a supervised homework club is supported and supervised by volunteers and over 50 children regularly attend the club. _**Seminars and cultural and religious talks:**_ volunteers provide free cultural and religious seminars at our centre every Wednesday evenings. _**Sport activities:**_ The Charity organises sport events mainly in football and table tennis. _**Fetes & Festivals:**_ we have a little festival occasionally a few times yearly. Many people who are from different background attend to our festivals. All is planned and prepared a week before the festivals. Especially Turkish dishes are offered and presented to the visitors to taste including Turkish pastry, cakes, March **2012** **TAR** 3 kebabs and local foods from different regions in Turkey. Many people are invited to this charity activity to buy and eat for fundraising. This is a really good cultural and social activity for the community spirit. During the festival, many people find a chance to speak and get to know each other while tasting good food. It is also good opportunity to learn about the culture and food while it is a collectively playing and entertaining event for all children together. The festive were a way of responding to our community desire to make more use of parks by bringing people together to share in activities in a pleasant green setting. The aims of the picnics for the community are to: - Increase opportunities for social contact and develop networking opportunities with the local community. - Improve the number of activities for families, children and young people in the area. - Encourage use of Parks. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. March **2012** **TAR** 4 Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity** Volunteers are an important resource in community work. This year our Charity **during the year** has achieved to reach over 6,500 Turkish speaking people in Manchester and surrounding cities. This helped us increase our number of volunteers who then helped us organise and conduct more charitable and fund-raising activities than last year. Volunteers are involved in most of our community activities and we have now over 40 people regularly giving their time. March **2012** **TAR** 5 ## **Section E Financial review** ## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** ## **Details of any funds materially in deficit** The trustees have reviewed the reserves of the charity. Their policy is to hold enough funds to meet two months' operating costs of the centre and of our community activities and programmes. In calculating the charity's reserves the trustees have deducted from the total of unrestricted funds of the charity, the value of the lease of the centre and other tangible fixed assets as shown in the accounts and the designated fund. ## **Further financial review details (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about: - the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising); - how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity; **Principal funding sources** The charity's main source of income is donations. Given the economic conditions currently affecting our local community this level of donations is both generous and encouraging. ## **Investment policy and objectives** - The charity has no long-term investments. Our cash reserves are held in our bank account and saving accounts. - investment policy and objectives including any **Plans for future periods** - ethical investment policy adopted. We intend to maintain our existing range of community activities working in partnership with the community and to further develop our community projects in collaboration with Manchester Community.
