We are pleased to present the annual report for the year ending 31/12/2023. Since 2022 our charitable activities have increased significantly. Currently, we are operating sixty-two pre-schools consisting of 1,187 children, up from thirty-nine pre-schools and 767 children in 2022. These pre-schools exist in deprived areas of Noth, East and Upcountry of Sri Lanka, where there was no pre-school facilities provided to economically disadvantaged families and children. The lack of pre-school education led to children from these areas to struggle when they were admitted to primary schools.

We have carefully identified issues and started providing affected children pre-school education using funds contributed by members in the UK, donors, and sponsors, all of whom feel they have a duty and obligation to uplift the standard of living of the poorer communities in the deprived areas of Sri Lanka. UK Directors, members, and sponsors visit these areas regularly at their own expense and provide valuable advice and support to the Sri Lankan arm of the FACE charity which oversees the operations.

We bear the cost of all teachers’ wages, training, and travel as well as children’s education materials, teachers’ and children’s uniforms and nutritionally balanced meals. Further to this, the charity ensures the schools have access to drinking water, toilets, electricity, play areas and that the premises are secured with gates and fences. Some local area government authorities also provide monetary incentives to the pre-school teachers further to our own wages’ payments. Whilst the local authorities provide the necessary building facilities to run the pre-schools, most of the buildings require extensive repairs which are funded and organised by the charity.

We are looking to increase awareness of our mission through social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube as well organising charity and fundraising events within the UK. We also intend to create a training programme for volunteers who wish to provide services at pre-schools in the UK and in underdeveloped countries. We plan to further expand our operations within Sri Lanka to other deprived regions helping us to further achieve our goals.
