Thetrusteespresenttheirreportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyear ended
31March2025.ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordancewith the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Purposes and aims
TheSociety'spurposeistoactasamultidisciplinaryprofessionalbodyofexpertstopromotethe clinical
practice,educationandclinicaltrialsinrelationtomuscledisease,myastheniagravisandspinal muscular
atrophy. It is intended to be a forum of consultant level experts to consider these issues.
The aims of the Society are:

agreeing best practice and standards of care for patients with muscle disease
-
agreeing standards for training in clinical myology and clinical muscle pathology
-
promoting translational research
-
establishing clinical networks to facilitate and promote clinical trials and patient registries
-
facilitating collaborations with patient organisations
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
The BMS Annual Meeting was held in Oxford on the 16th and 17th Sept 2024. This meeting included an AGM.
TheBMSusedcharityfundstosubsidisemeetingplacesforallattendees(attendancefeeswerelower than
at-cost price), and to cover meeting costs, including speakers and venue.
BMS membership was required for registration.
The event was well received with excellent attendeeship and feedback.
Attendeeship was around 80 delegates plus sponsor exhibitors
The BMS Paediatric Muscle teaching day was held on 16th Sept 2024 in Oxford
Freeplaces(fundedbytheBMS)wereofferedtotraineesandAHPs.A totalof57freedelegateplaces were
awarded. Around 95 delegates attended in total.
The BMS used charity funds to cover meeting costs, including speakers and venue.

FUTURE PLANS
The BMS plans to run the AnnualMeetingand the PaediatricMuscleTeachingDay in Sept 2026at a venue to
be confirmed.
The BMS will run a specialist MRI workshop on 15th November 2025

I reporttothecharitytrusteesonmyexaminationoftheaccountsofBritishMyologySociety(theTrust) for
the year ended 31 March 2025.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charitytrusteesof the Trust you are responsiblefor the preparationof the accountsin accordance with
the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I reportin respectofmyexaminationoftheTrust'saccountscarriedoutunderSection145oftheActand in
carryingoutmyexaminationI havefollowedall applicableDirectionsgivenby the CharityCommission under
Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
Ihavenoconcernsandhavecomeacrossnoothermattersinconnectionwiththeexaminationto which
attentionshouldbedrawninthisreportinordertoenableaproperunderstandingoftheaccountsto be

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordance
withthe FinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland(FRS102) (effective
1 January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the
UKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCharitiesAct2011.Thefinancialstatementshavebeen prepared
under the historical cost convention.
Income
All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesonce the charityhas entitlementto the
funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthecharitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswill be
requiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditure is
accountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost
relatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingsthey have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestrictedfundscanbeusedinaccordancewiththecharitableobjectivesatthediscretionof the
trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthe charity.
Restrictionsarisewhenspecifiedbythedonororwhenfundsareraisedforparticular restricted
purposes.
