Thetrusteespresenttheirreportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyear ended
31March2023.ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordance with
the FinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland(FRS 102)(effective1 January
2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Purposes and aims
TheSociety'spurposeistoactasamultidisciplinaryprofessionalbodyofexpertstopromotethe clinical
practice,educationandclinicaltrialsinrelationtomuscledisease,myastheniagravisandspinal muscular
atrophy. It is intended to be a forum of consultant level experts to consider these issues.
The aims of the Society are:

agreeing best practice and standards of care for patients with muscle disease
-
agreeing standards for training in clinical myology and clinical muscle pathology
-
promoting translational research
-
establishing clinical networks to facilitate and promote clinical trials and patient registries
-
facilitating collaborations with patient organisations
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
TheBMSAnnualMeetingwasheldasafull,physicalmeetinginOxfordonthe14thand15thSept 2022.
This meeting included an AGM.
TheBMSheavilysubsidisedmeetingplacesforallattendees.BMSmembershipwasrequired for
registration.
The event was well received with excellent attendeeship and feedback.
Attendeeship was around 80 delegates
The BMS Adult Muscle teaching day was held online on 14th Nov 2022.
Freeplaces(fundedbytheBMS)wereofferedtotraineesandAHPs.Atotalof65freeplaces were
awarded.

TheBMShasdevelopedanew,onlineeventfor2023:theBMSMuscleMRIworkshop,whichwillrun in
November 2023. This event is available to both BMS members and Non-members.

FUTURE PLANS
TheBMSplanstoruntheAnnualMeetingandthePaediatricMuscleTeachingDayinSept2024 at
Worcester College, Oxford.
The BMS plans to run an online Allied Health Professional Teaching Day in 2024 (dates to be confirmed)

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of British Myology Society
I reportto the charitytrusteeson my examinationof the accountsof BritishMyologySociety(the Trust) for
the year ended 31 March 2023.
Responsibilities and basis of report
AsthecharitytrusteesoftheTrustyouareresponsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsin accordance
with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I reportin respectof myexaminationof theTrust'saccountscarriedoutunderSection145of theAct and
incarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowedallapplicableDirectionsgivenbytheCharity Commission
under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
Ihavenoconcernsandhavecomeacrossnoothermattersinconnectionwiththeexaminationto which
attentionshouldbedrawninthisreportinordertoenableaproperunderstandingoftheaccountsto be
reached.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordance
withtheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective1January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReporting Standard
applicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCharitiesAct2011.Thefinancial statements
have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
Allincomeis recognisedin theStatementofFinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlement to
the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthe charityto that expenditure,it is probablethat a transferof economicbenefitswill be
requiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditure is
accountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost
relatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadingsthey have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestrictedfundscanbe usedin accordancewiththecharitableobjectivesat thediscretionof the
trustees.
Restrictedfunds can only be used for particularrestrictedpurposeswithin the objectsof the charity.
Restrictionsarisewhenspecifiedbythedonororwhenfundsareraisedforparticular restricted
purposes.
