from less advantaged backgrwnds t(x) often miss out on ettri¢thment opporttjnities to build the confidence and
essential skills they need to succeed in later life. There are t￿) few opportunities for them to en8age in
meanrn8ful way with role modeis and mentors in the world of work. Even when opportunities arise, some lack
the confidence lo take them up. This means young people from less advantaged backgrounds a
undeErepresented in the world of work. This is unacceptable.

communities we serve has been profound. In response, we have intensified our efforts to support parents and
carers across multiple fronts. These include initiatives in flnancial literacy, distributing energy vouchers.

Over the past year, we have empowered young people to addTe5S the social Pr(￿lemS that matter most to them.
By inspirAn8 them with a Purp￿ deeply meaningful to their lives, we thannelled their passion into actio
enablin8 thern to build confidence and develop essential skills for their futures. This was achieved through
carefully structured combination of d)allense and supp)rt.
Over twelve monthgp young pwple explored F)te&sin8 social and environmentsl issues, identifted causes close to
their hearts, and mobilised others to take meanin8ftJl action. An outstandins g)2% of participants reported
learnin8 more about ffftial and environmental issues thr￿gh their involvement with Youth Action.

for environmental sustainability. The programme equipped pJrti¢ipanls with the knowledge, 10015. and

Throu8h workshops. campaigns, and collaborative proierts, youn8 people explored the causes and impacts
of climate thanse. Ambassadors led 27 Icol initiatives such as tree-planting drives, plastic waste redudion
campaisns, and ener8y effioenLy awareness programmes. These proi&ts collectively reached over 9,676
individuals, fostering widespread community en8a8ement and environ￿ntaI awarentss.

This year. the pro8ramme brought together over 66 youn8 people of various faiths. Participants planned visits to
places of worship, ensased with faith leaders and led workthop& The activities fosleled open dialogue, helping
partlapants identify common ground in shared values. dispel misconceptions, and navigate areas of
dlsagreement constructively.

Youth in the Community
Over the year, 5,469 y(￿￿8 people participated in our ¢ommunity.based youth groups, representin8 a si8nificant
increase in engagement. Many of these young people faced substantial s(Kial and Lronomic barriers, induding
finanaal hardshlp, limited acce&s to extracurricLdar opportunities. and the onsoins effects of the pandemic on
their mental and emotional well-being. While the majority of sessions were held on weekday evenings. we
siwificantly expanded our provision to include holiday-based youth camps. These camps offered a vital lifeline
for youns people and their familie4 providing StrUctL￿ed. supportive, and enjoyable aclivilies during schcw)I
bteokg. This proved particularly impaciful in addressing the negative of the pandemiG suth as increased
isolation and disrupted routine&

The youth groups and holiday camps were designed to provide a safe and inclusive environment where young
people could explore their interests, engage with their communities and develop key life skills. The profound

In addition to these individual benefits, the programme also had a ripple effect on families and cornmunilies.
Parents reported positive changes in their children's behaviour, attitudes. and motivatiorn while community
stakeholders noted the sroups, contributions to IcKal cohesion and en8a8ement.
Looking ahead, we aim to build on this success by further expanding the reach and scope of our community-
based youth 8roups, ensurin8 that even more youn8 people have the opportunity to 8row. thrAve, and make
meaningful contrlbutions to their communities.
Period Poverty
Our YcAmg Ambassadors have bw passionately campaigning for over Iwo years to d)allenge the taxation on
peTiod Products and its irnpacl on young people fraang poverty. Their Action projects sought to raisè
awareness about the financlal burden this placed on families, hi8hlishtin8 how valuable budsets were bein8
stretched to cover these essential ltell￿.
last year. in collaboration with (yur corporate parther Always and national youth orsanisation UK YOU￿ we
distributed over I,CKI) free hygiene packs lo young people in need. These packs included essential sanitary
Products alonsside thoughrful treats. helpin8 to restore dignity and provide practical support.
Buildin8 on this sucw$ this year we expanded our efforts, raisin8 awarene$5 and campaignin8 for schools and
youlh settings to increase the availability of free [￿lOd products. By advctatins foT accessible solution5, our
Youn8 Amba&sadors are helping to tackle period poverty and etwre that no young person has to compromise
their education or well-being due to a lack of resour￿.

In paTtnership with the Blackburn with Darwen Strntegic Youth Alliance and commissioned by Blaekburn wlth
Darwen Public Health Team. we continued OUT Vital work deliveTill8 ddached youth work. This marks the
second year of this initiative, f￿lSinS on en8a8ins with youft8 people in their own environtikntsi particularly
in areas where they feel isolated or unsafe. Operating seven days a weeK our Detathed Youth Workers reached
out to vulnerable youns people in parks, behind commercial buildings. and in poorly IIL unsafe spaces. These
ensagements provided a lifeline to youn8 people. offerAn8 immedfftate supprt and connection.
Mental health support was a key foLWS of our worL ensurin8 that young people had acce9S to a trusted adult and
were referred lo appropriate agencies for additional assistan￿. Over the yeaT. we successfully en8ased several
hundred young people, helping them toaccess crucial servicesand supkwrt networks. This pro8ramme continues
to play a vital role in addressing the needs of at-risk youth in our communlty. creatin8 safer spaces and
empowerin8 young people to seek the help they need to thrive.

The attounts for the period ended 30th March 2024 aTe appffided herewith. There was a net defiat in the year of

The trustees carried out a review of the or8anisations structure in 2012 and revised its mission ststement. selling
out the major Opportunities available and the risks to which the organisation is exposed. policy, infoTmed
by this review, is to achieve our aims by Seeking funding from a wide range of stakeholders for specialist services
from which to generate sustainable income for our cx)re purposes.
The trustees have considered the efEects of this course of action and believe thaL to maintaln a level of 8ervices,
reserves ofsix rnonthg expenditure need tobe retained. This will provide a cuthion lo enable allernalive ￿nd1ft8
to be obtained or. if considered necessary, a radical restructuring of the charitys ￿MMItMents and level of
services to bè undertaken. Six months, expendihre in the cornin8 year has been estimated at £241,927, based on
cosls, and thug the policy is met with the Charities net current a55ets at the year-end bein8 £1,201,368.
The Charity recognises the to grow reserves for its future strbility and to mitigate against ￿tUre risk.
