## **Trustees' Report Arty Party Limited on the Accounts for the Year Ended 31 March 2024**
The trustees present their annual report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
## **Structure, Governance and Management**
The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 18 February 2010 and registered as a charity on 21 June 2011. The company was established under a Memorandum of Association which establishes the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association
The Trustees when complete consist of at least three and not more than 15 individuals, all of whom must be authorised representatives of organisations in full membership, and must be elected through an open and transparent process, as shall be from time to time approved by the trustees.
## **Objectives and Activities**
The objectives of the charity are to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities within Shropshire and its surrounding areas, by promoting education and the arts, and through this improving individual health, social wellbeing and economic stability. Also to promote social integration and community cohesion, building trust, confidence and communication between people with disabilities and the wider community through the medium of the arts.
We believe that by providing regular opportunities for people to meet and engage in positive, creative activity, we contribute to the social wellbeing of our members, families and carers involved in support, and the wider public.
We run a variety of creative sessions for adults with learning disabilities, increasing the number of sessions, and expanding the time allotted, as well as adding to our repertoire. The sessions ran weekly, during term times. Sessions included Visual Art, Poetry and Story, Dance & Drama, Physical Theatre, Carnival Skills, Clay & Sculpture, and Music. We also held a cabaret night, open to the public, at which our members shared their work with the community. We used (safe) community venues for regular sessions, and encouraged the public to witness work and communicate with our members, building trust and confidence.

## **Achievements and Performance in the year**
Arty Party delivered 9 weekly (term time) creative sessions during this period, with around 50 participants, many of whom attended more than one session per week. Arty Party continued to work with local freelance artists and creative support, to ensure the quality of our offer. The role of Arts Activity Coordinator has continued to be an asset to the organisation for 2 days per week. We also created a freelance Finance Assistant role to complete termly invoicing.
Our Alive and Kicking project, with the support of public funding through Arts Council England, ran throughout the year, concluding in August 2024. In addition to funding creative sessions, we contracted an artistic production organisation, Curiosity Productions, and graphic design expertise, to support us in creating a brand for our Blue Cat Cabarets. This enabled us to coordinate and deliver 3 fabulous events with a clear identity, which achieved a growing audience.
Arty Party's Board of Trustees met regularly during the year.
The 'What a load of Rubbish' group closed, with all members moving to alternative Arty Party sessions.
In the summer of 2023, we said goodbye to our Boundless facilitator, Poppy Mansfield, and welcomed Richard Edwards as the new lead. Richard brings many years experience of supporting Storymakers and Art Room. The group took very well to the changes and the new approach to Boundless sessions.

## **Some of our achievements month by month**
## **April 2023**
**What a lot of Rubbish – Reclaimed Art Sessions** . The group created bookmarks and painted bags, all from recycled materials. Alongside this, the group made several paintings, including a tribute to Len Goodman from Strictly Come Dancing, spring flowers and portraits of the Arty Party Team.
**Crafty Crafters.** In April, the group were getting ready for the coronation. They produced majestic crowns prepared for the celebrations and even had a Queen parade.
**Film Festival.** Oska Bright Film Festival's 'Best of the Fest', featuring Arty Party's 'The Secret Life of Tom Lightfoot', was shown at the fabulous Lexi Cinema, Kensal Rise in North London on the 24th of April. Arty Party short films 'The Secret Life of Jim Henry' and 'Escape the Ordinary' were chosen to be shown in Toulouse, France in the summer. Congratulations to Arty Party members Simon Carpenter, Georgie Dawson and Andrew Kelly for their acting skills.
**Art Room.** Art Room Ketley returned with colourful abundance, looking to Kandinsky for inspiration. They also created a brilliant resource bank of materials for our collage piece.
## **May 2023**
**Boundless** . The Boundless dancers had a fantastic term, working towards their performance at the Arty Party Blue Cat Cabaret evening in July.
We also enjoyed a wonderful evening of music, friendship and togetherness, courtesy of the **Arty Party Blue Cat Band** at Community @ In Good Hands, Shrewsbury.
**Art Room** made a massive Arty Party street scene collage, complete with parrots, flying buses and a totem pole! We let our imaginations run free!
**Clay Room.** Decorating fired work was the task of the clay and sculpture room members. The results were incredible! We continued to work on our decorative birds and birdcages, which looked wonderfully whimsical.
**What A Load of Rubbish** participants were creative with straws and paint and making abstract designs like butterflies.
**Crafty Crafters.** Crafty Crafters decorated tote bags at In Good Hands Music Cafe.
## **June 2023**
**Films.** Arty Party's The Secret Life of Astrid North was amongst a selection of short films curated by the Oska Bright Film Festival at the Barbican in London on June 14th. The world's leading learning-disabled film festival returned to the Barbican with a screening celebrating the talents of learning-disabled and autistic women in film, both in front of and behind the camera.
**Sculpture Room** finished making cacti and added to our Marty the Cat sculpture. There was brilliant focus from the sculpture room. Lots of painting to do!
**Boundless** . Boundless worked hard on the countdown to their performance at the next Arty Party Blue Cat Cabaret evening.
**Crafty Crafters** made beautiful jewellery and were in a spin creating a beautiful spiral and a Blue Cat Cabaret frieze ready for the Cabaret.
**Art Room.** Art Room showed off their skills in preparation for a showcase. We looked at Robin Mead's illustrations. Focussing on colour and line, we got to work on some stunning landscapes.
## **July 2023**
**Blue Cat Cabaret.** The Arty Party Blue Cat Cabaret was an atmospheric event full of great art, creative decorations and amazing people. Setting up the space was a collaborative effort between all the Arty Party Artists, Co-ordinators, Facilitators, the Arty Party Board, the Buttermarket Shrewsbury and the Arty Party Blue Cat Producer Jenny Smith, alongside her team from Curiosity Productions. The event was supported using public funding by Arts Council England. It was a real treat for audiences to see the works of art produced by Arty Party Artists from 'Art Room Ketley' and the 'Visual Arts & Crafty Crafters'.
**Sculpture Room** . The sculpture Room painted finished pottery pieces, using layered painterly effects. The participants also created frog pots!
**Art Room** worked on paper maché sculptures after drawing fantasy ice creams. These look delicious!
**Crafty Crafters.** Crafty Crafters were busy making clay and slate wildflower plaques and then had a go at modelling. William's Golem and his precious rings were fabulous! Crafty Crafters worked on the table decorations for the Blue Cat Cabaret on July 19th.
**Boundless.** Our Boundless dancers were on the countdown for their performance at Arty Party's Blue Cat Cabaret evening. The group were excited to share their term's work.
## **August 2023**
Arty Party's wonderful **Blue Cat Cabaret** was immortalized in One minute and 30 seconds of joyful film created by filmmaker Calum Barre. Thanks again to our funders for this series of events - Arts Council England and the Pavers Foundation.
## **September 2023**
**Art Room** started a new term by getting creative with paper plates using an idea from artist Darrel Wakelam, Space ships and aliens. Following this, in the Art Room, we finished our T-shirts and started our nature mosaics. There was lots of concentration from everyone. Finally, we designed ice creams and stalls for our ice-cream vendor sculptural piece.
**Storymakers** . Arty Party Storymakers met for the first session, enjoying seeing each other again and spending tender time listening and responding to each other's movements, creating living sculptures that changed and flowed (a score developed by Frantic Assembly). We also spent time improvising and storymaking, each scene changing with the invitation: 'Yes and let's...' inspired by improvised theatre facilitator Keith Johnstone.
**Sculpture Room** started with a practice session to remind ourselves of pinching and cooling techniques. Then we constructed the Arty Party bakery, with cupcakes, muffins, tarts and pies!
**Boundless** . Some wonderful movements and shapes came from our Boundless session led by our performance artist Richard Edwards.
**Crafty Crafters** . The Crafty Crafters chose to make beautiful hair bands and clips! And William painted a seascape!
## **October 2023**
**Stagecraft.** The group prepared their piece for the Blue Cat Cabaret!
**Crafty Crafters** . Crafty Crafters wrote a poem called Scary Scary Night and began work on the group collage to go with the poem. Crafty Crafters also created colourful and vibrant Mexican Day of the Dead masks following discussions about Halloween.
**Sculpture Room** was messy but busy. Paper maché mushroom tea light houses started to come together!
**Films.** We were thrilled to find we would share The Secret Life of Tom Lightfoot alongside other fabulous Oska Bright Film Festival selections at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York, in November. The Oska Bright Film Festival is such a strong and brilliant advocate for films made by and featuring people with learning disabilities and autism.
News came that Arty Party's new short film 'The Collector' would have its festival premiere at the Oska Bright Film Festival in Brighton, in March 2024. The film features performers Andrew Kelly, Eve Washington, Mervyn Bradley, Chloe Shepherd, Beth Gardiner, Georgie Dawson, Ellie Taylor, Becky Keir, Graham Busby, Elizabeth Cooper and Misha Crawford. The soundtrack features music composed by Ted Barnes. The film took ideas from our residency with brilliant Theatre Complicité practitioners Catherine Alexander and Bea Pemberton.
**Art Room** took our Klimt-inspired pieces to the next stage, and worked on a piece of our choosing with the theme of autumn or Halloween.
## **November 2023**
**Events** . Arty Party creative groups The Crafty Crafters and Boundless shared great performances with the audience. Crafty Crafters told a haunting tale, there was atmospheric artwork, and Boundless danced to the tune 'I don't want to set the world on fire'. The Arty Party Autumn Blue Cat Cabaret was full of great comedy, performed by Arty Party members Mervyn, Eve, Chris, Arron, Dan and the brilliant Lake and Juke from the Open Theatre Company.
Performance Director Ray Jacobs trained three of our members to become Blue Cat Cabaret presenters. They did a great job!
Lake and Juke led our comedy workshops, supported our members in sharing sketches made in the workshop and shared the premiere of their new piece 'Take the Plunge'. There was so much laughter in the venue.
**Sculpture Room** . We made slab-built gonks. Our Arty Party gonks are becoming very popular.
**Art Room** began to create personal advent calendars, all truly individual.
**Comedy Workshop** . Arty Party held a 'Play the Fool' workshop with Lake and Juke from Open Theatre Company. Participants had a great time learning the skills needed to make people laugh. Jake Jarvis, Luke Greenwood and Richard Hayhow from Open Theatre supported us to Play the Fool. We shared lots of laughter and learnt new skills.
**Creative Costumes.** We started a new session for creative costume-making with Jean Mills.
**Films.** Arty Party's 'The Secret Life of Tom Lightfoot' was shown on the local television channel Bouke, in Namur, Belgium, as part of the Extraordinary Film Festival. The film was aired several times between November 6th and the 10th. Thanks to EOP! and Bouke for sharing our film.
## **December 2023**
**Stagecraft** members wrote a wonderful Christmas song with Gemima.
**Crafty Crafters** were busy making trees, wreaths and a host of Angels!!
**Film.** The Secret Life of Tom Lightfoot was screened as part of the HIFF festival in Monaco on Saturday 16th December at the Cinéma des Beaux-Arts. Thanks to our friends at HIFF for screening our film.
## **January 2024**
**Crafty Crafters** created wonderful bookmarks using dried flowers. We finished the poem, In The Mist! which we submitted to the Minsterley Eisteddfod. Members of the group also created fabulous collage covers for their notebooks.
**Sculpture Room** produced lovely flowers at Ketley Community Centre, for the Cabaret in March.
**Stagecraft** . Stagecraft music and drama workshop started rehearsals for our next Cabaret performance.
**Art Room** looked towards the spring, new beginnings, love and growth. We started to create our marks on paper and turned them into a beautiful set of heart paper chains.
## **February 2024**
**Art Room.** We created blooming Arty Party fantasy flowers for our Cabaret on the 8th of March!
**Crafty Crafters.** Crafty Crafters finished their Dragon collage, ready for the Blue Cat Cabaret, and created some amazing Dragon stencils.
**Film** . The wonderful Borderlines Film Festival will share Oska Bright Film Festival's Best of the Fest 22, featuring Arty Party's Secret Lives of Tom Lightfoot and Jim Henry. Borderlines and Oska Bright make a great partnership, supporting the voices of disabled storymakers in the borders.
Arty Party is excited to announce that its short film 'The Secret Life of Astrid North' is one of 12 films in the official selection for the Lived Perspectives Film Festival in Winchester, England. Congratulations to the Arty Party team of actors, creatives, support workers, families and friends who worked so hard for this film to be made.
**Stagecraft** worked hard at their Cabaret piece, using ribbons.
**What a Load of Rubbish** designed and made hats at the 'What a Load of Rubbish' workshop at Ketley Community Centre.
## **March 2024**
**Storymakers** had a great final Spring term session. We explored moving and dancing in partners with one person unsighted. We explored a new storyline full of transformations, and heard from Chloe about her visit to the Lived Perspectives film festival.
**Clay Room** . It's amazing what our sculpture room group can make with tin foil and cotton wool. Easter bunnies and eggs. We had a go at making some highland cow plaques.
**Film** . Arty Party's The Secret Life of Astrid North was awarded best film at The Lived Perspectives Film Festival! Actor Chloe Shepherd was present for the screening and to receive the award. Many thanks to the festival for sharing our film. Many thanks to Chloe and her family for performing in and supporting this film as it travels the globe. This is the 9th international award our Secret Lives series has received. The films have been shown at over 72 screenings in 20 different countries.
**Boundless** practised a new dance routine with the theme of moving in time. Everyone worked together and moved together in time.
**Art Room** made Easter paintings and cards.
**Crafty Crafters** created lovely Easter bonnets filled with paper flowers to hang on the wall as a bright Easter decoration!
**Events.** At the Blue Cat Cabaret, Arty Party's Storymakers presented a moving dance about friendship introduced by our guest presenter Garry Robson. After a lovely intro by our presenters' team, the fabulous Boundless performed. The performance was brilliant.
Collectively, we created The Blue Cat Cabaret brand, showcasing the skills and talents of our artists and performers, and bringing sparkling entertainment to venues in Shrewsbury and Telford.
Arty Party's collaborative approach with local artist facilitators brings together music, song, drama, dance, art, creative craft, and film, providing time, space and opportunity for participants to explore and express their creativity. Our audience numbers have increased with each event, as the word spread that Blue Cat Cabarets should not be missed!
## **Reserves Policy**
Arty Party applies for funding from various sources, depending on the type of funding required to meet the charity’s objectives at any given time.
In order to be sustainable, we also charge a reasonable hourly rate for participants attending our creative sessions, covering venue hire, facilitation and support, insurance etc.
The restricted funds are made up of grants and are spent according to the grant requirements which assist the Charity in meeting its objectives. Any money left over at the year end is kept in reserves to be spent in the following year.

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**
**-** We report on the accounts of Arty Party Limited for the year ended 31 March 2024 which are set out on pages 2 16.
The trustee's (who are also the directors of the company for the purpose of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustee's consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed. It is our responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- to state whether particular matters have come to our attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement**
Our examination was carried out in accordance with general directions for an independent examination. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention:
1. which gives us reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; and

## **Arty Party Limited Notes to the Financial Statements for the Year Ended 31 March 2024**
## **1. Accounting Policies**
The principal accounting policies are summarised below. The accounting policies have been applied consistently throughout the year and in the preceding year.
## **(a) Basis of accounting**
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Companies Act 2006 and the Charities SORP (FRS 102) together with update Bulletin 1.
## **(b) Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
Restricted funds are those donated for use in a particular area or for specific purpose, the use of which is restricted to that area or purpose.
## **(c) Incoming resources**
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when the charity is entitled to, and certain to receive, the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. The following policies are applied to particular categories of income:
Voluntary income is received by way of grants, donations and gifts and is included in full in the Statement of Financial Activities when receivable. Grants, where entitlement is not conditional on the delivery of a specific performance by the charity, are recognised when the charity becomes unconditionally entitled to the grant.
Items donated for resale through the charity’s market stall are included as incoming resources within activities for generating funds when they are sold.
Incoming resources from charitable trading activity are accounted for when earned.
## **(d) Resources Expended**
Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to the expenditure. Expenditure is recognised on an accrual basis and is reported as part of the expenditure to which it relates:
Costs of generating funds comprise the costs associated with attracting voluntary income and the costs of trading for fundraising purposes including the charity's market stall.
Charitable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them.
Governance costs include those costs associated with meeting the constitutional and statutory requirements of the charity and include the Independent Examiner's fee.
All costs are allocated between the expenditure categories of the SOFA on a basis designed to reflect the use of the resource. Costs relating to a particular activity are allocated directly, others are apportioned on an appropriate basis e.g. Floor areas, per capita or estimated usage.
## **(e) Fixed Assets**
Fixed assets are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation. Depreciation is provided on tangible fixed assets so as to write off the cost or valuation, less any estimated residual value, over their expected useful economic life as follows:

Impairment reviews are carried out as and when evidence comes to light that the recoverable amount of a functional fixed asset is below its net book value due to damage, obsolescence or other relevant factors.

## **7 Trustees Remuneration & Related Party Transactions**
No members of the management committee received any remuneration during the year. No Costs were reimbursed to any members of the management committee throughout the year.
No trustee or other person related to the charity had any personal interest in any contract or transaction entered into by the charity during the year.
## **8 Taxation**
As a charity, Arty Party Limited is exempt from tax on income and gains falling within section 505 of the Taxes Act 1988 or s256 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to the extent that these are applied to its charitable objects. No tax charges have arisen in the Charity.
