Section D Achievements and performance

During the reporting year, the Band achieved the following: **Summary of the main achievements of the charity** _**Maintaining the multi-generational and diverse membership of**_ **during the year** _**the Band**_ ▪ Continuing to implement its long- term “ _Full Circle_ ” project by obtaining funding to provide subsidised participation and tuition for children, young adults and families. ▪ (As previously recognised in academic research) maintaining children’s engagement in music -making during the difficult transition from primary to secondary school. ▪ Appointing a new director of music who is under 30 years of age. ▪ Retaining a teenage member of the band as the youth representative on the B and’s management committee and retaining a young person under 30 as one of our trustees. ▪ Continuing our mid- term “Showcase” performances , and our end of term concerts solo performance slots, to give members, younger and older, a chance to play their pieces to a supportive and appreciative audience. ▪ Welcoming young adult members to the Band and retaining them within it, in particular by ensuring that we play interesting repertoire, and by encouraging interaction and social activities. These members are often new comers to the area from other parts of London, the UK, and the World. ▪ Welcoming older, late-starters, to the Band, and encouraging and supporting them within the Band. ▪ Retaining ambitious and enthusiastic music directors and tutors. ▪ Striving to be “ _London’s friendliest band_ ”. _**Becoming more ambitious and enriching the experience of Band members**_ ▪ 0rganising, promoting and presenting an evening of music (ELCB 50) at a commercial venue, featuring each of our ensembles. The evening was an exhilarating end to our celebration of the 50th anniversary of our founding as Tower Hamlets Youth Band. More than 400 current and former band members, friends and family attended the event. ▪ Championing contemporary British classical and jazz composers by premiering at ELCB 50 two new pieces for our Jazz Big Band and a substantial new composition for our Concert Band. The composers are both under 30 years old. ▪ Screening at ELCB 50 and our subsequent summer concert, a video documentary to record our 50th anniversary year. ▪ Obtaining a professional recording of ELCB 50 and making it
