This is down on the previous year which had some exceptional factors. The subscription income is down by about £1,000, because the membership in 2024 grew from 212 at the start of the year, to 231 by the year end, but only 197 of those members renewed. We start this coming year with 212 members again, so we are better placed going forward. A second factor is that the amount charged by the Arts Society to the local organisations for their services was only £14.50 per member in 2024 because of a once off credit but returned to £16.20 per member which is around the historical average. Lastly, we shared some of our good fortune with the Arts Centre by contributing £500 as a Cranleigh Arts Angel, which helped towards the investment they have made in improving the café facilities. Many of our speakers comment on the impressive facilities we benefit from with the Arts Centre, which we all appreciate. Since the year end, the membership has continued to grow, which is not the experience of other Arts Societies in the area. We can therefore look forward to the future with the confidence that we are financially sound. On a personal note, I have advised Rosemary that I will be stepping down from my ‘temporary’ role at the AGM in February 2027. It is important that someone steps forward as, without a Treasurer, the Society will have great difficulty continuing. Can I repeat that the role does not require an accountant, all it requires is a degree of organisation, and a familiarity with simple spreadsheets. I am quite happy to assist in the handover and explain how the attached reports are prepared, it is just like following a recipe in the kitchen. AKH 31.01.26
