Over the last year the tgam al Diverse Cymru had conts'nued the charity's important work in proVid￿g
dynam￿ and innovative SUPkXJrt to organisations and communitie8 across Wales under increasing
drfficult )Inancial circumstances.
Diverse Cymru eonlinued lo aclivety 8UPPOrt its mission through the delivery of seNices that reduced
inequality, promoted awareness of equality issues, and enabled people affected by inequalty to
engage and speak for themselves.
t)uring the year, services included Independent Professional Advocacy $ervi¢e$ for srKial seNi¢es
ch'enls in the Vale of Glamorgan, and mental he8￿h recovery support seNices for Black, Asian and
minority ethn¢ people. engagement and training programmes, all of which hèlped Diverse Cymru lo
directly support th8 communf(18S W8 worked with. This year saw th8 @nd of the organisatH)n's delwery
of Direct Payments support serV￿e$ following the transfer of our final contracted service lo the local
authority.

undertaken by our HYPE Cymru project with Black children and young peopl&, the start of our
administering Welsh Governmenvs Culture Grant Scheme ft)r Gras$rool Or9anis*ions, that wouk
distribute £455,000 lo small and local minority ethnic grassroot organisations up to December 2024. In
this year, we also started a new partnership with Cardiff University. engaged as a Taf(h Champion on
their cultural exchange programme, lo ensure equitsble access to these excf(ing QPPQrtunilie$ for
underrepresented groups.
Diverse Cymru's Cuttural Competency Certrfication Scheme continued to work wth over 160
workplaces across Wales and beyond, supporting organisalions to IMP￿Ment g¢Jod workpL4ce
practice, ensuring services are fair and equrtable for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people in Wales.

During the year, the CEO, senior18adership team and Trustees Sought to ensure the financlal slablllly
of the charty, faced wfth increasing costs and increasing demand for our services. Early in 2024, the
eharity entered merger discussions with Adferiad Recovery, an organisation that has had a lengthy
Supportive relationship with Dwgrsa Cymru over a numb8r of years, led by ils CEO. The merger
look place successfully on 1 April 2024 when Diverse Cymru joined Adferiad Recovery. ensuring that
Ihe obj8Cts of the charity conlinue and th* all projects, staff and seNices are prot￿ted and Continue
in their delNery.

The organisalion wa$ fomed as a Gompary limited by guarantee and is govemed by the
Memorandum and Articles of Association. 11 was in¢rxporate(l on 27th October 2009. registered as a
Charity on 22nd February 2011 and slartgd to operate on 1st April 2011.
This followed the amalgamation of existing organisalions.. Awetu and the Cardrff & Vale Coalition
for Disabled People. Aw8tu I'our Unity. in Swahili) was a registered charty set up in 1988 as a resu
of thé gromng concern among a number of professional workers at the over representation of Black
clients within the mental health services and the need to improve the sensltivity of these services to
lack people's ngeds.
Cardrft & Vale Coalition for DIs8bfed People, a Company Limited by guarantee, was created in 1991.
It was established from the outsel a$ an organisati)n for disabled people that could challenge barriers.,
bring disabled people together lo campaign on relevant issues such as education, employment,
housing, transport and strengthen the voices of disabled people in the community and in decision
making.
The assets, liabiliti8s and actNities of this charty were transferred to Adferiad. a ￿gIste￿￿ ¢harrty with
simiSar objectives, on 1st ￿)ri1 2024.

The Directors were also Tru81ees of the Charity. The Board of Trustees had slra18gic ov8rsight, in line
with charity law. The CEO was an ex officio member of the Board by virtue of their role as Secretary
and were suppgrted by SMT in the adminislralion of the operational re5ponsibilrty for the charty.

public by seeking lo eliminate discrimination in all its fomis, in particular but not exclusively, by the
provision of advice, information and training.

Achievements and p¢rfomian¢e
Over the last year Diverse Cymru has continued to provide high qualty services that make a real
difference lo the live5 of the people who we support.
The demand for our client f&ing seNiees has ctsntinued to increase over the last year, with both our
A£fvO￿Y and Mentsl HeaEth support servi￿$ having to irnplemenl waiting lists for 8UPPOrt.
The Diverge Cymru CuKural Competency Certrficalion Scheme has experien¢ed huge gr¢)wth in this
year and now 8UPPOrt8 over 160 workpla￿$ across Wales and beyond.
During tha yèar, th8 Cumural CoMp&len¢y Certifi¢ation Scheme team, other team members and
Community volunteers took part in a successful cuf(ural exchange trip to c￿e. Support￿ by Cardrff
Unwersty's Tarth programme, to develop resources to expand the Scheme'$ delivery to the adult
education sector.
Following this. Diverse Cymfu entered a commissioned contract with Cardrff University, lo support
underrepr8senled groups and organis*ions lo apply to Tailh and undertake their own cu￿U[al
exchange.
HYPE Cymru concluded its successful partnership with WoodlarKI Trust on a children and young
person's mental wellbeing and social prescribing project ond began a social aclKJn project for Black
¢htldren and young people up to 18 years, supportsd by Children in Need.
This year saw the organisation develop some excf(ing new projects. Commissioned to deliver Welsh
Government's Culture Grants Scheme for Grassroot Organisalions, the scheme is providing Small,
Medium and Capf(al grants to grassroot groups across Wales lo a total of £455,000, as part of Welsh
Government's Anti-Racisl Wales Action Plan. Our partnership with Marie Curie on the Wales
Bereavement Infornation and Support Serwce is fcKused on ensuring that the individual and group
svpport is Cumural￿ competent lo Wales's diverse populalh)ns.

Advocacy
Our AdvcLacy service provid88 a voice to Ih08e experiencing barriers to access SUPPOrt, through
advice, guidance and direct adv(xacy. Our seNices for the Vale of Glamorgan C¢uncil Adult Social
Services exceeded the number of client's Supported, wth work undertaken including weware benefits
(applications. assessments, appeals and Tribunal repreSentat￿ns>. social care. housing and
omplaints against public bodres.
The partnership with Creu Cymru on the Hynl Scheme has continued to support peop￿ applying for a
Hunt national theatre and arts access card. supported by Arts Council Wales.
This will continue in 2024r2O25 under the umbrella of Adferiad.
Menlal Health Hub
Diverse Cymru's Mental Health Hub is a wellbeNIg serV￿e for Black Asian and Minority Ethnic
communities providing one to one mental health recovery support and culturally competent
counselling. creating pathway5 to better mental health. We have continued lo have an increase in
rof8rrals to th8 sarv￿a, in Cardrff and the Vale of Glamorgan, and w8 havg had to rethink hcpN we
could work more efficienlty to meet the demand for the seNKe, this has including developing
additional partnerships and increasing group therapy and peer support actwits'es.
Our mental he8tth and wellbeing project ftjnded by the natM)nal lottery People and PLqces c(￿nmunty
grant in Wesl and North Wales has seen a good increase in the number of peopk referred into the
projeet and supported by our specialty trained recovery workers.
Thi$ will continue in 2024r2025 under the umbrella of Adferiad.
Cultural Competsncy Certlflcatlon Scheme
The Diverse Cymnj Cuhur81 Competency Certlfication Scheme works wrth leaders and organisalons
lo ensure better out¢ome$ for Black. Asian and ethnic minority people across a wide range of
servi¢es. Thi8 year the scheme went from strength to strength. and we are now supwknng ov&r 180
workplaces. In October 2023, we held our first face to face Certificate Presentation Event al City Hall,
Cardiff. Speakers included then First Minisler Mark Drakeford as well as recorded speeches by
Vaughan Gething MS and Jane Hutt MS and 18 organisations received their well-deseNed awards.
This will continue in 2024r2025 under the umbrella of Adferiad.
HYPE Cyrnru
This year saw the delivery of fvlo projects to ethnic minorty children and young people in Wales. Our
partnership with the Woodland Trust 8Xtend8d our 'Gr88n Prescription,, with a year long proj8cI
funded by Natural Resources Wales under the banner of Iknatured￿snldlscrIrnInale. The second
project continues and is a social action project for Black children and young people up to 18 years old
supported by Children in Need. This project sees a regular advisory group developing reSoUr￿S to
help other Black children eXperienc￿g racism and microaggres5ions.
This will continug in 2024r2025 under the umbrella of Adfariaj.

Culture Grant Scheme for Grassroot Organisations
Commissioned by Welsh Government, the charity has administered the Culture Grant Scheme for
Grassrool Organisations, one of a range of activi(ies taking place to support Black, Asian an mlnority
ethnic peopb. in¢luding people from Gypsy. Roma and Traveller communrties, to have equitoble
aC￿sS lo and involvement in cukural activities.
During the year we have made 2 grant calls lo small groups and organisalion apply to small, medium,
large and ￿PItal grants from under £1.000 up lo £30,000. Over 40 organisalions from across Wales
have b￿￿ awarded grants with some projects now ￿CLuded and others due lo complete by
December 2024.
This will continue in 2024r2025 under the umbrella of Adferfad.
Taith Champlon
Tarth is an intemalional leaming exchange programme estsblished lo create life-changing
opportunities for people in Wales to lèarn, study and volunteer all over the world. 11 15 for people in
8very part of Wales, and in every type of education setting.
As the Tallh Champ￿￿ for Adutt Education, the charity has offered support lo underrepresented
organisalions applying for the Tafth programme. including raising awareness, providing adviee and
guidance, project development support, logistical support, and ongoing support throughout the
implem8ntalion of the project.
This will continue in 202412025 under the umbrella of Adferiad.
Wales Bereavement Information Support Serylce
In partnership with Marie Curie. this is a freo, national service that offers ongoing support from
volunteers, bereavement counselling and group support providing safe spaces for people lo talk and
share Ihelr feelings. Diverse Cymru's role in the partnership has been to 8nsure that the support is
cutturally acces$ible to ethnKalty dwerse communities.

organisation's profile and reputation as experts in th8 elimination of discrimin81ion and inequality and
to dirgclty improving the experiences of people affected by inequalty in Wales. During this yèar, the
expertise of this departrnenl was in increasing demand providing specialist equalty training to a wide
range of publiG, third and privak seGlor organisalion5 across Wales.
Finally, as we transition to a n&v era for Diverse Cymru, we want to express our sincere thanks to all

build a more equal Wales for the people who use our services.

Results for the year
This is the twelfth arKJ final year of opeialion for this charity as a stand alone entity. There was a deficit
for the year of £132.964 in 202312024. It has not proved possible lo stem the continued deficits
desprte the signifKant efforts by both staff and trustees. The charity's activities have therefore been
transferr6d to another charity wherè the projects in place can continue.
