Report @ 2021 TAO

[ [ introduction ] [

Together As One (TAO) provides support to anybody who may be feeling loneliness or social isolation, particularly as a result of mental health issues. We operate an open-door policy; this means that clients are free to just turn up, and that there is no restriction on the geographical area they may come from.

Our Patron is Sir Vince Cable, the former MP for Twickenham; he has been a long-time supporter of us and all that we do, and we greatly appreciate his involvement.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Martin Higham, former Trustee.

His death was most unexpected, though not in any way related to the pandemic. we Yvonne, Gunna, Ron, David, attended his funeral as representatives of TAO; spoke about his achievements and commitment to the organisation. Some clients also would have attended, but unfortunately were unable to due to the restriction on total number because of Coronavirus.

Martin will be greatly missed by all here.

The Coronavirus pandemic has been the biggest influence on activities during this reporting period. This naturally led to lower attendance numbers. Due to national lockdowns, we were closed altogether from: 23 March 2020 to 3 July 2020; also from 13 January 2021 to 26 March 2021. During these periods, we kept in contact with clients by telephone, all those who wanted it, to help people avoid feeling isolated.

For several years now, we have been almost the only drop-in — as opposed to referral — service in the borough; we can now proudly say that we have been the

only service open for face-to-face meetings, whenever that was allowed by legislation. This is a testament to the dedication, and belief in helping our clients, of all of our: volunteers; employee; and committee.

Whenever we did run sessions, social distancing and the appropriate limits on group sizes were maintained; we also provided face masks and hand sanitiser for all to use.

Together As One runs 5½ hours per day, three days per week, with RUILS funding one of those days. We are based at the Cricket Pavilion on Twickenham Green.

We provide a home-cooked meal at every session, at low price; to maintain this, we subside the cost slightly.

We offer a wide variety of board games, with a selection of these being played regularly.

This reporting period our Art Group ran, but only for some of the weeks that we this was due to the national Coronavirus situation. were open;

We were contacted by Claire, who is training to be a psychotherapist; she was looking for a mental health placement opportunity, which we were happy to offer.

Over the period 20 September 2020 to 21 July 2021 she spent time weekly, talking with clients here; this was greatly appreciated by them, as well as providing her with the ‘hands-on’ experience she needed.

She has now been accepted by the Tavistock Centre; we wish her well in the next stage of her learning.

[ [ events and trips ] [

No trips were viable, due to the Coronavirus restrictions; we decided not to book a Christmas meal, also for safety reasons.

Although we would normally have held AGMs in the Mays of both 2020 and 2021 this was not possible, due to the Coronavirus restrictions then applying to group meetings; instead, the Committee elected in 2019 have continued in their posts.

We have managed to raise a considerable amount of money through our three pop-up shops, helping to keep us financially independent as a Charity.

The shops were in: Twickenham (London Road); East Sheen (Upper Richmond Road); and then again Twickenham (York Street); many thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time to make this possible.

The accounts for Together As One are currently in the process of being audited.

Usually, this process would have been fully completed by this point in the year. However, the national Coronavirus situation has led to delays; we will be getting the Audit completed as soon as we can.
