GSL Review of 2023
2023 will be remembered for the opening of two new sections at 3[rd] Hanworth the first being the second Squirrel Drey at 3[rd] Hanworth. Squirrel Scouts is the newest age group for Scouting, allowing for the first time 4- and 5-year-olds to be part of the fun. The tremendous success of the original drey which opened in 2022, meant that we had young people queuing up to join squirrels.
2023 also saw the opening of the Stealth Explorer Scout Unit. Although the Explorer Scouts are a district managed section, we are very keen to have an Explorer Scout Unit at 3[rd] Hanworth. It allows young people who join the group Squirrels to remain Scouting at 3[rd] Hanworth until their 18[th] birthday. The opportunities which 3[rd] Hanworth offers for these young people is huge and hopefully we will see some of these young people become leaders and continue their Scouting journey with us.
I will avoid talking too much about the programme, as the sections leaders (or section team leaders as they are now called) will describe this in detail. There are however some highlights which must be mentioned.
By far the biggest event of 2023 was the Scouts visit to the Haarlem Jamborette, the scouts joined a group from Feltham, Hanworth and Bedfont for the international camp in Amsterdam. The beavers had another camp, this time including a trip to Gulliver's Theme Park.
For Squirrels, the programme highlight was the first 3[rd] Hanworth Squirrel sleepover. Across the country there has been huge scientism of having 4-year-olds take part in such events. Our experience is that they are fantastic. What better way to prepare young people for attending the many nights away we offer than to start at 4 years old – it was the parents who were more nervous!
Cubs held two camps in 2023 and saw the highest number of cubs ever at the group
Although this AGM and the reports reference the year 2023, part of my job as Group Lead Volunteer is to consider the who group. Everything that is good and bad and how we can make the group even stronger, so, even though it did not take place in 2023 it would be wrong not to mention the events of the 3[rd] August 2024 which is the main cause of why this AGM is so delayed. The fire which engulfed the van carrying most of our camping equipment on the way back from Summer Camp was a difficult experience. The support that 3[rd] Hanworth received from across the UK was simply amazing and although we continue to work on insurance claims the group will be able to recover from this and move forward positively. By the time of the next AGM, we will be able report in detail about this.
Away from the programme there are some other challenges which will be the focus of the group over the next year. We continue to need additional volunteers to support with both section meetings – specifically Windsor Beavers and Stealth Explorer Scouts. We also need to increase the number of trustees that we have. Recent emails to parents and advertising on social media has met with limited response.
The Trustee board looks after the buildings and finances of the group. Separated from the operational side of the group to focus on the compliance, finance, and safety. If you are interested in either, please do get in touch. This process now must be a formal process but please feel free to have a chat with us if you are interested.
In 2025 we will be holding a family activity day, this will give parents the chance to have a go at some of our activities which our young people enjoy so much. Look out for info in the new year.
As ever the end of my report is about thanking everyone involved at 3[rd] Hanworth. I will not try to name them as there is so many people involved now. We have an outstanding team of leaders, young leaders, helpers and assistants and I want to say a huge thank you to them. Thank you to the trustees for their work.
Thank you to all the parents for their support of the group and finally a huge thank you to all the young people.

Monday Squirrels AGM report 2023
After the success of opening our first Squirrel Drey in 2022 and having quite a long waiting list, it was decided to open a second drey. So with that being said, our Monday Squirrel Drey opened in May 2023, bringing in another 14 squirrels. Due to being short on leaders, we also run on a parent rota which has been a huge help! We first spent some time getting to know each other and going over the rules and then after a couple of weeks, investing our new squirrels! During this term we decorated mini doughnuts, eating doughnuts off of a string (without using our hands!), making masks, building forts and unwinding with some yoga. We also had an inflatables night. This included a bouncy castle, giant inflatable slide, and an inflatable obstacle course. Then on the last meeting of term we followed the 3[rd] Hanworth tradition of our water games meeting.
The autumn term kicked off with designing our own superheroes, enjoying space week and learning how craters are made on the moon! We also had a very exciting Halloween party with the Tuesday squirrel drey where we all dressed up, leaders included! We used this time to learn about senses, tasting different biscuits, using touch to figure out what was in boxes and listening for some spooky sounds. Then we joined the rest of 3[rd] Hanworth in the remembrance parade and all the squirrels were outstanding! Nearing the end of the term we joined other scout groups for Christingle, went to mizens railway to see Santa, and done lots of Christmas craft and then ending with a trip to snakes and ladders!
It has been an extremely exciting year and I'm so excited for 2024!

Tuesday Squirrel Scouts Report 2023
The Squirrels started the year off strong with a fun packed evening of Science experimentssome worked and some did not. They also covered some of the annual celebrations including Lunar New Year, Pancake day, Mother’s Day and Easter. They also stuck in with some lovely nature themed activities.
In the Spring term we looked at the bigger scouting family and what all the Squirrel badges are! We got our hands dirty planting some lovely strawberry plants and we have an afternoon tea in celebration for the Kings coronation. During this time we held our first ever Squirrel sleepover which was amazing fun and such a successful event for all involved! We ended the term strong with our very famous water games evening! We all got very wet!!
The Autumn term was packed full of events joining either other sections from within the group or joining other Scout groups- Including a group campfire and our annual trip to snakes and ladders. Along side all of this we managed to squeeze in world mental health week where we talked about what makes us feel safe. Then we had loads of fun with pasta week- creating pasta pictures and shakers.

Tudor Beavers Annual Report
I feel as if I start all my reports in a similar way but what a year 2023 was for us all at Tudor Beavers. Each year just feels like it gets bigger and better for us at 3[rd] Hanworth and for the adventures that we get the opportunity to go on.
The year started out with us exploring our creative side, we tackled our creative activity badge as well as starting some junk modelling. We then celebrated lots of different events together such as pancake day and world book day, which also gave us the chance to work towards our book reader badge. We also began working on our Navigator badge, which gave us a good excuse for an Easter Egg hunt!
The summer term was busy as we started celebrating the Coronation of the king with our mini street party. We were also invited to Snakes and Ladders to assist them with training their new staff in their fire alarm procedures (which also meant we had the whole place to play!). The summer term and the nicer weather meant we had the chance to spend many of our meetings outside, we had the chance to help in the local community by going on a litter pick, learnt about fire safety and the different ways to light a fire and started work on our Gardening badge! Akela Ben from Panther Cubs also arranged for one of his friends to come and talk to us about pride and we had some great discussions about what we are proud of about ourselves. We ended the term on a high with the first ever Beaver Theatre Trip to Richmond Theatre to see Winnie the Pooh, which was great fun!
Autumn term as always was out busiest of the year as we like to go out with a bang, we tackled a range of badge criteria during the term from our photography and explore badge to our emergency aid badge. We also got to go camping on the field outside our Scout Headquarters over a weekend in September which also saw us heading to Gulliver’s Theme Park in Milton Keynes for a day of adventure exploring the theme park and all the different rides. As the weather started to get a little colder and darker, we joined the younger sections at 3[rd] Hanworth for a group campfire where we got to learn lots of different campfire songs! We finished the term as we usually do with our Christingle Church service and trip to Snakes and Ladders but not before we did one last sleepover of the year and headed out to meet Santa at Woking’s Miniature Railway.
This has been a wonderful year to be at Tudor Beavers and the young people continue to make me so proud with everything they achieve. Over 2023, we handed out 232 badges, with 6 being the highest award you can get as a Beaver a Bronze Awards.

Windsor Beavers Report 2023
What a fantastic and fun year we have had! Id love to take a second to say a huge thank you to the brilliant volunteers we have in Windsor beavers there’s no way any of this would happen without the support of these fantastic humans so thank you Ben, Robbie and Emma. I’d also like to say thank you to Rachel and everyone in Tudor beavers all our trips, camps and sleepovers wouldn’t happen with you guys!
A fantastic 153 badges were awarded, 5 of those being bronze awards!
In January we welcomed in the new year with games, healthy eating activities, learnt more about foods that re good for us and made some fabulous junk models. February brought the half term fun but we also had fun with pancakes and learning some campfire songs. The last month of the spring term is march and this means world book day has arrived! Book related fun occurred including dressing up as our favourite book characters, making bookmarks and designing our own book covers! We wrapped up the spring term by celebrated our mums and other inspirational women.
We opened up the summer term by starting our gardening badge which continued through the term with each lodge looking after and growing some flowers. During this half term we held a celebration for the kings coronation, had a fun filled trip to snakes and ladders, brough in and showed our collections and ended the half term with a litter pick in the local park that ended with fun play in the playground! The second half of the term was filled with fire lighting, experiments and an evening talking about pride. We also enjoyed our annual inflatable night an exciting sports day and of course the very soggy water games evening.
The autumn term is always a super busy term with Christmas fun just around the corner but we started the term with some outside fun, putting up and taking tents down correctly, we learn about the green cross code and road safety and ended September with all the Beavers pretending to be different animals and learning more about endangered animals. October brough in the chilly evenings and a yummy pizza night, practicing our emergency first aid and a digital citizen evening! After half term we brought November in with a spooky fun Halloween party, went to space, made our poppy for the remembrance parade. Finally we have December, Christmas craft all round! We also had Christingle, Santa special and snakes and ladders in the busiest December around!
We have a few extra trips to sprinkle in, a trip to Kidzania which was brilliantly fun, an adorable trip to the theatre to see Winnie the pooh and all his friends, our autumn camp which was filled with mini golf and a fun trip to Gulliver’s land and our Christmas sleepover before Santa special.

Panther Cubs Annual Report
Firstly, I would like to thank all the leaders at 3rd Hanworth, especially Jenny and Pat for making my first year in the role of Team Leader for the Pather Cub Pack so enjoyable. It was very daunting for me, and your support has been invaluable.
We started the year with 18 members in the pack all eager for the year ahead. During January we held my very first pack forum where the Cubs shared with me the kind of activities they would like to do over the next few terms. The rest of the Spring term saw the pack take part in outdoor cooking, rifle shooting as well as other team building games.
During the Summer term the Cubs hosted their very own tea party with all sorts of snacks and fancy little sandwiches. We spent an evening talking about photography and got the Cubs out and about taking their very own photos and then we shared all our efforts with the rest of the Pack. In May we had our first camp of the year, we spend a few of our meetings planning and preparing the Cubs for the trip and then on the weekend of the 26th we met up at Paccar Scout camp for the weekend. Two action pack nights followed, where the Cubs took part in all sorts of activities such as the 3G swing, caving, tomahawk throwing and we also went on a hike. The rest of the summer term saw the Cubs doing all sorts of activities such as hosting their own sports day and we ended with a traditional session of water games.
Autumn term saw our pack grow to over 30 members. We had some session looking at how we communicate and played some games involving Lego and walkie talkies. The Cubs did really well learning about knots and pioneering and we had a meeting where they made there own rope ladders and had a go climbing them to the ceiling of the HQ. We had our second camp of the year in September when we took the Cubs to the newly restarted All Sections Camp hosted by the team at Paccar. The theme was ‘Discover’ and the Cubs had the opportunity to take part in loads of science based activities as well as getting to meet Cubs from all over the District. In October we had a shared Cub pack Halloween party with loads of the packs dressing up, playing games and having a bit of a disco. Then as the dark nights started to roll in we hosted a group campfire, where different sections from the group came together for an evening full of silly games, songs and hot chocolate. On Sunday 12th November about 30 Panther Cubs joined the rest of the group to take part in the Hanworth Remembrance Day Parade. We ended the year with a trip to see Santa at Mizens’ Railway, a great turn out for out Christingle service and finally our traditional visit to Snakes and Ladders.
Over the year we have awarded just short of 300 badges, including some Chief Scout Silver awards and welcomed over 25 new Cubs.
All that is left to say is thank you again to all the other leaders at 3rd for your continued support over the year especially those that have directly supported the section. And a massive thank you to all the Panther Cubs for there never ending enthusiasm and energy!

Ocelot Cub Annual Report
It has been another busy year for Ocelot Cubs. The Cubs started the year with our usual games night. The cubs did Chinese new year where they eat noodles with a choice of sauce, we had a go at air rifle shooting and had a visit join us to help us earn our local knowledge badge, the visit talked about what our local area looked like a few years ago
We started working on our backward cooking badge by cooked on an open fire, we did our emergency aid badge, we made firelighter and learnt how to pitch a tent. We did some more of our backword cooking badge before finishing the term by making bunny cakes and joining in with a treasure hunt.
The summer term started with a joint meeting with Panther cubs where we enjoyed playing wide games. The cups enjoyed having a tea party, doing our photography badge and preparing for camp. We enjoyed a fun packed weekend of activities and we took part in a mini hike. The second part of this term we did a litter pick, our road safety badge, took part in our own sports day, had a games night, went to crazy golf and then finished the term with our traditional water games evening.
During the autumn term the cubs took part in our pioneering badge, we did our communication badge, and did some experiments. We learnt how to make rope ladders and had a joint Halloween party with Panther cubs. We also had a group campfire, played board games, made pizza. We ended the year with our traditional visit to snakes and ladders which I think everyone will agree is enjoyed by all who attends.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Leaders for their continued support on a weekly basis, we could not do what we do without you all.

3[rd] Hanworth Scout Troop Report 2023
2023 was another busy year for the Scouts. It began quickly with the older Scouts taking part in an Expedition Camp, right at the beginning of January. This involved a hike to Paccar and enabled 6 Scouts to complete their Chief Scouts Gold Award.
In February there was an activity day at Paccar for all the Scouts from both troops.
At Easter, we travelled to Stoke on Trent for a weekend camp which included a visit to Alton Towers Theme Park. This was a great weekend which was enjoyed by all who took part.
The highlight of the year took place during the Summer, as we joined with Scouts and Explorer Scouts from 2[nd] Bedfont and 10[th] Feltham to attend the Haarlem Jamborette. This is an international Scout Camp which takes place every 4 years in Amsterdam. This included a new experience of travelling by Eurostar, direct to Amsterdam Central Station. Activities included hikes, theme park trips, scout activity trail, water activities, discos and much more. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet with Scouts from around the world. Groups from Feltham have been part of this event since 1983.
In November, the Scouts and Explorers volunteered to help at the Hampton Court 10K run. The Scouts ran the bag drop station for the runners and worked really hard after a very early start.
At the end of November we had a Winter Camp at Paccar which included various activities on site and was another fantastic camp.
Troop nights continued with the normal mix of different activities. These included First Aid, cooking, Science, team challenges, rifle shooting and Dragons’ Den. We also reminded ourselves what it was like during covid when we held an online, virtual night when we play Packman round the streets of Hampton.
Nights out included Swimming, Golf, Ice Skating and our annual theatre trip which was to see Matilda the Musical.
As ever, all of this would not be possible without our amazing team of leaders, so thank you to Chris, Rachel, William, Ryan, Chloe and Henry was all their hard work in preparing and running activities. Also thank you to the other leaders from 3[rd] Hanworth and beyond who helped at meetings or assisted the troop in other ways.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the Scouts who were part of the troops in 2023. Their commitment and enthusiasm to be part of 3[rd] Hanworth was fantastic.
