Whilst the Charity continues to promote the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, the Beads of Courage programme has allowed the charity to also promote the signs and symptoms of other chronic and serious childhood illnesses. The charity continues to promote awareness of many childhood illnesses through its Social Media pages.

The charity continues to engage with parents and young people via its website, Facebook and Twitter applications. Here the charity is able to share its ongoing work. Many families also submit their own family stories with the aim of raising further awareness and profile. We are extremely thankful to the many families who support this initiative as we appreciate it is not easy reliving and sharing their experiences.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

The Covid-19 pandemic led the charity to take the decision to stop delivery of Beads of Courage materials to UK hospitals to support UK and World-wide efforts to curb the spread of the virus. The charity also took the decision not to implement new programmes or continue site visits to hospitals. However we continued to support our children, teenagers and young adults through our media channels and offering programme beads to families through post. Beads of Courage UK continued its partnership with Children with Cancer UK who sponsor the oncology and haematology programmes. With no fundraising opportunities and our commercial partnerships not able to continue, we are extremely grateful for the continued support of Children with Cancer UK without whom, the charity potentially would not have been able to continue providing the level of support.

Our partnership with Children with Cancer UK will allow us to provide more programmes to hospitals who treat children with chronic and serious conditions. We will resume this activity as soon as practically possible. Our aim is to provide every child in the UK with this programme. This is an ambitious target but the Trustees hope the partnership with CWC will be a blue-print towards working with other charities to make this a reality.

Section D Achievements and erformance p

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Beads of Courage UK’s main achievement has been maintaining its support for the Beads of Courage programme at a time when donations have reduced significantly, the US exchange rate has remained low and the world has had to deal with a pandemic. Beads of Courage UK receives amazing support from Children with Cancer UK and its volunteers. We have an army of Bead Makers who make our special one of a kind Act of Courage beads and another army of Bead Bag Makers who source material and make and donate bags for our children to keep their special beads. Each bead is hard earned so having somewhere special to keep them is an essential part of the support process offered by Beads of Courage UK.

Section E Financial review

Brief statement of the Beads of Courage UK continually monitors its financial position. Brexit charity’s policy on reserves and Covid-19 has impacted on the charity's resources due to exchange rate movement of some 25% and no fundraising over the past 12 months. Fortunately, we have the support of Children with Cancer UK who have continued to provide us with the much needed support to continue providing this incredible programme to all children going through cancer treatment. The reduction in donations and Covid-19 pandemic necessitated a change in our focus and we have therefore slowed the introduction of cardiac, chronic and nicu. The charity endeavours to ensure there is sufficient supply to meet the needs of all beads of courage members. We are confident that there are sufficient resources available to fund the Beads of Courage programme for the next 12 months. Donations are down so the charity will need to be mindful of this and Details of any funds materially manage its finances and bead supply purchases carefully over the in deficit coming 12 months.

of the charity;

The charity continues to work well with its Commercial Participators - CM
Events arrange awareness stands around the UK, primarily in shopping
centres and retail outlets. By having the stands and developing our
ongoing partnership with CM Events, we not only receive vital funds to
support our awareness and support initiatives but also raise awareness
of the charity and its aims and missions. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-
19 pandemic all awareness stands have been cancelled.
Our clothing partner, Recyclling and Management Limited dutifully
delivered clothes bags to homes around the UK and dealt with the
collection, delivery and ongoing sale of these items. They are fully
licensed to carry out operations and apply to local councils for permits to
collect. However, at the start of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Charity
decided that as clothing collections entails individuals delivering bags
through household letterboxes that this practice should cease
immediately. We therefore gave notice to Recycling and Management
Limited to end our partnership. We would take this opportunity to thank
Recycling and Management Limited for their support over the past
number of years. Their collections allowed us to continue providing
support to children.

By entering into partnerships, Beads of Courage UK does not have to deal with the administration associated with their operation and can therefore concentrate their time and effort into continuing to provide its services. The Charity now has an agreement with S&G Management to deliver the programme and training on its behalf.

The charity employs accountancy firm, Sephton and Company LLP to prepare financial information.
