Trustees’ Report for the year ended 31 August 2023
The Trustees of Amnos Ministries ( being the Trustees) present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2023. The financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006, the Memorandum and Articles of Association of Amnos Ministries, and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
Amnos Ministries ( also referred to as the Charity) is a company limited by guarantee registered under the Companies Act 2006. It is also a charity registered with the Charity Commission.
Objectives and Principal Activities
The primary objective of Amnos Ministries is the advancement of the Christian Faith, including the provision of Christian training, education and learning.
Amnos Ministries aims to contribute to the re-evangelisation of the UK and Europe. We aim to work out this mission in four ways:

By equipping church planters in the UK and in Europe,

By raising awareness of the UK and Europe’s spiritual climate and encouraging prayer support for the UK and Europe,

By providing Christian workers to those churches that do not have sufficient pastoral personnel,
-
By complementing existing theological institutions with spiritual and practical input.
Principal Achievements and Performance during the period
a. Arise 2023
We hosted the Arise Evangelism campaign in 2023 (26th June- 3[rd] July) after a successful post-covid restart in June 2022. 35 delegates from five different churches (USA, S. Korea and UK) were sent to serve on this year’s Arise. This was a brilliant step up following the pandemic. We thank God for these sending churches and their continued and faithful commitment to sending teams to help (re)evangelise the UK.
We established Arise as an international and interdenominational evangelistic programme in 2015.This campaign is now well established as an annual event, and it has been much appreciated by the sending churches, the hosting churches and the participants.
b. The Intercede Prayer Meeting :
This monthly prayer meeting of churches in Brentwood, Essex, which has been hosted by Amnos Ministries continually since February 2012. The distinct feature of Intercede is praying specifically for our nation, the UK. Post-covid these meetings were slow to restart but will be relaunched at Gold Hill Baptist Church in the Autumn.
c. Inspire Bible Conference:

This is an annual programme which is designed for local Christians in Brentwood. This event runs for two or three evenings in May with a renowned guest speaker every year and has been running since 2012. A successful event was held in November 2022 with well known minister and theologian Phil Moore speaking on two evenings. The theme was ‘Let it rain’. Plans for Steve Uppal to speak in Inspire 2023 are well underway.
d. Amnos Church Planting School :
In light of both the prolonging COVID 19 situation and the nature of our training on church planting and pastoral ministry, we made the decision to continue to pause the Church Planting course with the intention of resuming when circumstances allowed. The curriculum and provision of the planting school is under review.
e. The UK Christian Heritage Study Tour
Amnos has been hosting the Heritage Tour annually since 2013. It is a study tour for a week around various historic Christian heritage sites in England and Wales. No Heritage Tours were carried out in 2022-23
Financial Review
During the year the Charity had incoming resources of £36,052 (2022: £11,520) all of which were unrestricted. Our income for this year was reduced, due to the smaller scale of the Arise event. At the end of the period, the Charity had reserves of £319,895 (2022: £331,941). These reserves represent the balance of initial donations that were made to help set the Charity up with appropriate resources plus surpluses made since that time. The Trustees are monitoring the finances of the Charity and believe that, at present, they are satisfactory.
Risk Management
The Trustees have identified and reviewed the major risks to which the Charity is exposed. They are satisfied that appropriate systems have been installed to mitigate those risks. They regularly review our policies and procedures.
Reserves
2022 was a very important year for Amnos as our Founder and Executive Director, the Rev Dr Daniel Chae, stepped down from leadership. However, he continues to support Amnos Ministries as a voluntary worker and Ambassador. It was his desire to secure sufficient reserves to provide enough of a financial buffer until his successor establishes their own financial network. Dr Chae has raised most of the funds from his network of donors in Korea and in the USA. As he steps down from his role, donations have decreased, also exacerbated by the COVID situation.
The current level of reserves reflects the Charity the careful management of costs. The Trustees regularly review the ongoing cost management, and the levels of donations The reserves of the Charity will ensure funding of the growth initiatives planned for the near future, especially with the new Executive Director.

Investment Policy
It is the policy of the Trustees to invest any surplus funds in appropriate bank deposits.
Plans for 2024 and Post Balance Sheet Events
a. Leadership Change
The Trustees appointed the Rev Stephen Walker-Williams to be the next Executive Director of Amnos Ministries effective 26 January 2023. Pastor Walker-Williams is employed by Gold Hill Baptist Church in Chalfont St Peter as its Lead Pastor. With the Secondment Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding in place between Gold Hill Baptist Church and Amnos Ministries, Pastor Walker-Williams is to be released on a part-time basis for Amnos Ministries as its Executive Director.
Dr Daniel Chae will remain within Amnos Ministries as its Founder and voluntary worker. He will be released more towards international ministries as an itinerary missionary and lecturer.
b. Arise 2024
We are going to run the Arise campaign from 24[th] June to 3[rd] July 2024. This campaign will recruit more delegates than the campaign of 2023, though it is still likely to be smaller than previous campaigns of 2015-2019. This is largely due to the long term impact of COVID in terms of travel and planning and the challenges of recruiting hosting churches. We hope to recruit 70-80 delegates in 2024 to support about 10 churches in England and Wales.
The length of the campaign has been shortened from 11 days to 9 days.
c. Intercede Prayer meetings
The first Tuesday of each month is devoted as a day of prayer and fasting with prayer meetings at lunchtime and in the evening for revival and renewal in the UK. This is held at Gold Hill Baptist Church.
d. Inspire Bible Conference 2024
We had hosted the Inspire Bible Conference each year in Brentwood during 2012-2019. After two successful Inspire Bible Conference in Chalfont St Peter in November 2022 and 2023, we plan to host Inspire 2024 again in Chalfont St Peter during 15[th] -17[th] November 2024. The Inspire Bible Conference is designed to serve the Christians with Bible teaching, worship and fellowship. It is open to any church and individual Christian who wish to be better equipped to serve God. We hope the Inspire conference will provide them with an opportunity to focus on God.
e. Amnos Church Planting School .
The Amnos Church Planting School remains under review and it is hoped that it will be relaunched with an adapted curriculum and approach in the Autumn of 2024.

Amnos Ministries
We will need to employ a new Principal to build up the School with a fresh plan, which will include new lecturers. The Trustees are keen to resume the School as it carries out the vital and unique role in the current climate of church declining in the UK and Europe. We may have a new format and structure of training, but we are committed to carrying on the original vision and principle of church planting and church growth through proactive sharing of the Christian gospel and charity.
Structure, governance and management
The Charity was incorporated, as a company limited by guarantee, on 25 January 2011. It is registered in England and Wales (number 7505282) and is governed by its Memorandum of Articles of Association. It is also a registered charity in England and Wales(number 1141888). The Charity does not have a share capital and is limited by the guarantee of the members to a maximum of £10 each.
The Charity is governed by a Board of Trustees (Trustees). The names of the Trustees are set out below.

The Rev Peter Jordan continues to serve as a Trustee since 4 July 2016.

Dr Joseph Mathai continues to serve as a Trustee since 19 February 2021.

The Rev Keith Mitchell continues to serve as a Trustee since 13 May 2021.

The Rev Dr Daniel Chae to serve as a Trustee since 27 April 2023.
The Trustees are appointed considering specific skills that are required for the governance of the Charity. In view of the size of the Charity, the Trustees consider that they have a broad range of experience that is suitable for the governance of the Charity.
Trustees who join the Charity will have an appropriate induction programme.
The Charity‘s day to day operations are run by its Executive Director, Revd. Dr Daniel Chae, and from 26 January 2023, by its new Executive Director the Rev Stephen Walker-Williams. Dr Daniel Chae will continue to serve Amnos Ministries as Secretary of the Charity, the role he assumed since 19 February 2021.
Public Benefit
The Trustees recognise their responsibilities towards public benefit under the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 and have considered the guidance from the Charity Commission on public benefit. This requirement is reflected in the objects of the Charity, described above. The Trustees consider that these benefits are clear and identifiable. These benefits are set out within the appropriate sections of this report.

Trustees’ responsibility in respect of the financial statements
Company law requires the trustees (who are also the Trustees of the Charity for the purposes of company law) to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under that law the trustees have elected to prepare financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and Applicable laws). The financial statements are required by law to give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and the surplus or deficit for the period. In preparing these accounts, the trustees are required to:

Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently

Observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP
-
Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent
-
Prepare the accounts on an ongoing concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to ensure that the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the detection and prevention of fraud and other irregularities.
The trustees are also responsible, as trustees of the Charity, for compliance with the accounting and reporting requirements of the Charities Act 2011.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Amnos Ministries
I report on the accounts of the Charity for the year ended 31 August 2023, which are set out on pages 10 to 12.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The trustees (who are also the Trustees of the Charity for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
Having satisfied myself that the Charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b)of the Charities Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect, the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities have not been met; or
-
2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

For the year ended 31 August 2023 the Charity was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
Trustees' responsibilities:
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its accounts for the year in question in accordance with section 476.
The Trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small company regime.

Notes on Financial Statements For the Year ended 31 August 2023
1. Accounting Policies
These Financial Statements are prepared for the year ended 31 August 2023.
The principal accounting policies adopted, judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the preparation of the financial statements are as follows:
a) Basis of preparation: The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) - (Charities SORP (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
b) The trustees have taken advantage of the disclosure exemption within FRS102 not to produce a cash flow statement.
Fund Accounting
Restricted funds are subjected to restriction on their expenditure imposed by the donor.
Unrestricted funds are funds available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the Charity.
Incoming Resources
All incoming resources are included in the SOFA during the period in which they are receivable and can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.
Resources Expended
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Tax status
The company is a registered charity and not subject to Corporation Tax on the current activities.

7. Trustees
All trustees act in an unpaid capacity. During the year no trustees were reimbursed any travelling and subsistence expenses.
