Cosheston Mission 2023

The work at Cosheston Mission has remained fully active throughout the year.

• Our work amongst the children with Challengers still remains ‘furloughed’ due to not enough workers to cover the meetings under our current safeguarding guidelines;

• the Ladies Meetings ran throughout the year;

• we were able to hold our Harvest service in the church building and our Christmas Eve gathering in the village Hall - both were very well attended;

• Sunday School continued to operate during the morning meetings;

• guest preachers and missionary organisations able to join us;

• we had fellowship with other churches;

• we continued to support Missionary organisations such as Asia Link, EMF;

• we are supporting two children in Uganda through the Just Care charity

• the pastor has been fully involved in the life of the village school

• we have completed our three-year support of Francis who is training for the ministry in Kenya

• we supported the Bibles for Children organisation

God in his mercy has left us with enough for another year. The reality is, our God has, and shall, supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

We all know that money is not at the heart of who we are because as Solomon declares, whoever loves money never has enough (Ecclesiastes 5:10). Nevertheless, we are mindful to use the monies we have for the extension of God’s work in Cosheston and beyond. We are not foolish nor reckless with the money God gives so we must continue to be wise in how we put to good use the finances God has laid before us.

Our monies must fall behind our aims as a registered charity:

• a) to advance the Christian Faith in accordance with the Statement of Faith in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees from time to time may think fit;

• b) relieve sickness and financial hardship and preserve good health by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind, including through the

provision of counselling and support in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees from time to time may think fit and

• c) advance education in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees from time to time may think fit

At the moment the church only has one paid worker, the Pastor, Mr N Gilbert. Rev. N Gilbert is also a Trustee.

By the grace of God, the church has carried on. God is good. 2 Timothy 2:9 reminds us that the word of God is not chained. Over the year we have maintained the preaching of the word and certain aspects of outreach, such as the Ladies Meetings. Throughout the year we have also focused on understanding who God wants to lead the church forward. Here are some financial facts to think about:

• missionary support came to £2,525.01, which amounted to 10% of the church’s expenditure

• our water and electricity bills have increased

• our expenditure on the Village Hall amounted to £16

• we now pay HMRC by Bank Transfer, along with any visiting preachers or missionaries

• the Pastors pay is still on Direct Debit for the 6[th] of each month

• we decided not to change our Public Liability and Building Insurance brokers who charged £676.27.24 this year (£27.82 more than 2022)

• Pastor’s expenses in averaged out at £210.27pm for the first 4 months of the year and then he took over his own expenses from May 2023

• we spent £145 on our annual fee for our DBS Certificates through ‘Thirtyone:eight’

• our annual Stewardship offering amounted to £21,016.23, up from £20,593.49 in 2022

• we had a one-off donation of £7,400 which, in conjunction with the decrease in our Pastors salary, greatly inflated our figures

• We have put together a table showing our income/expenditure from the end of December 2022 through to end of December 2023

The Audit for our accounts has taken place and has been signed off.

At the end of the day,

… we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
