TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD 1 SEPTEMBER, 2019 — 31 AUGUST, 2020
‘Peterson’s Fund for Children’ is a registered local charity that supports children in Surrey, and its surrounding areas, who struggle with severe mental / physical disabilities. It provides financial and other assistance to families with children, and other young persons who are unfortunately faced with this situation, by providing funding to:
-
¢ enable custom therapy
-
¢ obtain specialised equipment
-
¢ organise care workers and other professionals otherwise unavailable under public assistance.
The aim of the charity is to help as many young people in need as possible in the hopes of improving their quality of life and offering them opportunities in order to maximise their individual growth and potential.
The charity started nearly 13 years ago. It began small with a weekly food concession Stand at a local sports field, and helping one child, and has since grown to include several large fundraising projects throughout the year. This year, the twins who we were supporting, have moved away and are no longer in need of our care however this enabled us to add a new child to those we support, bringing our number to 8 children plus some ‘oneoff opportunities when feasible to do so. The charity is supported by many friends and sponsors that donate generously of their time, services, talents, resources and money and we are very grateful for their assistance.
We area relatively small charity, however this does not mean the we do not have an impact. The charity provides hope for families; hope that the future for these wonderful young people will be enhanced and full of possibility and opportunity. Whether it is weekly therapy sessions or the purchase of equipment, we aim to provide the resources to further their development and enrich their lives. It does not take much, but it means so much. We do not provide the therapy but fundraise so the children we help can afford the best care.
For the year from September 2019 to August 2020, the charity was involved with numerous fundraising events, although not as many as usual due to the devastating effects of the pandemic:
- ¢ We hosted our first ever online dog show and an online cat show. ¢ We benefitted from a Christmas wreath making event, where £873.50 was raised. ¢ We had a very successful day at the Boy Scouts Merit Badge Lock-in, once again, gen-
erating £300 in funds.
-
¢ |The Rehma Foundation donated £2926.92 to our charity. ¢ Wesold a variety of items at 3 different Christmas fairs. ¢ Suite 109, our charity costume shop brought in significant funds in its fourth year of operations.
-
¢ The Middle School of ACS Cobham International school hosted a movie night where we held a concession and raised £1002 from snack and drink sales.
-
¢ The Middle School students at ACS Cobham International show organised a talent show/open mike night, on our behalf, and raised £512 from ticket and snack sales.
-
¢ Wewere the recipients of the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme for a total of £290.
-
¢ AWBS (American Women of Berkshire and Surrey) kindly donated £3500 to our charity and selected us to be their selected charity for an additional year.
-
¢ We hosted a 2 costume sales at Sandown Race track and the Sussex Dance Festival. ¢ Shirley Atherton and Ben Bateman did a birthday fundraiser on Facebook and raised a very impressive £421.
-
¢ We were awarded £5000 from the Community Foundation. ¢ We were awarded £500 from the Tesco Bags of Help Covid 19 Community Fund where we purchased a specialised trike for one of the children in the charity.
-
¢ We were awarded the Edward Gostling Foundation grant for £1500 to be used for essential services during the pandemic.
-
¢ Covid Response granted us £9400 for food distribution for our families during lockdown.
-
¢ Shepperton Rotary raised £70 for our charity after a presentation was given. ¢ Small Business Elmbridge granted us £10000 to help offset costs associated with our charity shop that needed to close during Covid.
We were fortunate , with the money raised through these events, to provide £35,515 in grants to the children that we support, as well as a few one-off donations to other young persons in need, during this time period. All the money we raise goes to the children, since the Fund has no salaried employees or overhead expenses. This year, the expenses changed as most of the therapy needed to be done virtually and much of the raised funding went to supplying healthy food for our families during lockdown. We would like to thank the following sponsors, who have contributed to the charity: ¢ ACS Cobham International School for concession opportunities ¢ Precision Golf Limited ¢ The Rehma Foundation
We look forward to another exciting year in the charity and hope to increase our funds, Our exposure and awareness and, most of all, our ability to help those in need. Peterson’s Fund for Children

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of the Peterson Fund for Children Trust
|
] report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 August 2020.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
e examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; e to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
e state whether any particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- e to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and ¢ to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper inderstany}wieg of the accounts, to be reached. Ashley Harrow FCCA Galleons Lap, Greenhayes, Shipton Gorge, Dorset. DT6 4LU Date: 22 June 2021
