_**“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful….“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15 v 1,2 & 5.**_
## **Looking Up- What is God saying?**
A few months ago, I was praying over the church, about what the Lord wanted us to be and to do as we had begun most of our initial vision to grow deeper, wider and younger with the increase of prayer, the employment of the children, families and youth workers, the re ordering of our housing to release finances for mission and for the provision of a home for vulnerable people. We have started an outreach team with the arrival of Jeanette from the CYM course, and made a start to increase the small groups for disciple making. I had the picture come to mind of the huge Cherry Blossom tree that is near where we live, when it’s in season is really is something to see. It’s a reflection of immense beauty of our creator.
I felt Lord say this is how I want my church to be, each part in deep relationship bound together in love and unity, reflecting the beauty of Christ, releasing the fragrance of Christ through the church and out into the wider world, being visible, a place for others to find a home and take shelter, with its roots growing deep to draw deeply from the love of Jesus, and his word and being able to stand firm in the storms that are coming, with all branches bearing fruit in its good time. Please pray over the many passages of scripture related to trees and agriculture as we continue to seek the Lord on what he wants our church to be and to do at this time of great change and turmoil in our world. We are called to standout as a light on hill that cannot be hidden.
## **Looking back- A reflection**
We encourage you to read through the reports and see the different expressions of God’s work taking place inside our church and touching community. Whilst we celebrate all of this, we also remember that over the last 2 years there are many in our church family and our community who have gone through really difficult times and loss. Please do continue to pray and care for one another.
Our church has continued grow and change over this last year, we have been pruned over the last 2 years with some ministries having to close due to not being able to meet such as Coffee shop and one of the parent and toddler groups, but over the last year we have seen many shoots of new things beginning. There is new life bursting out with many parts of the church blossoming and also being fruitful (too many to name them all!). It has also been a year of learning as we have served our community with practical help and support and also with sharing Jesus in outreach and realising our complete dependency on Jesus and the outworking of his power.
We have seen a steady stream of new people turning up on Sunday from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances. We often are amazed how this happens as the reasons are varied and often the people themselves would say that felt prompted by God to reconnect with a church. One of the things we love about our church is the little glimpse of heaven on a Sunday morning both as the Lord faithfully meets us and the way He brings together a diverse congregation across backgrounds, ages and nationalities, it truly is a rich blessing. Over the last year many others from our church fellowship have also regained confidence to gather with us which has been wonderful to reconnect with them again in person.
## **Looking forward- New challenges**
Whilst growth is encouraging, the changes it brings also leaves us with many new challenges like how we grow together in deep authentic community sharing life with one another uniting the church that was here before the pandemic, and the church we are becoming to be. It raises challenges for us how we welcome and include others so the people who come, feel loved and a have a sense of belonging as family with us. We need to continue to develop our pastoral care for all especially for those who can’t be with in person and find better ways to help those who come and need more time and support from us. We also must continue to encourage and give opportunities for all ages in every area of church life to find their gifts and play their part. We need to continue to grow together in prayer, as this is the heartbeat of the church’s life. We would encourage more of you to join together on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 6pm for the church prayer meeting.
The need and opportunities for compassionate Christ centered service and outreach in our community are growing. We have already begun to meet Afghan refugees through the street church project. It is possible we also will find Ukrainian refugees beginning to arrive in our area during the coming year where the churches have the opportunity to welcome, befriend, share hospitality and our faith. The expected rises in the cost of living and potential food shortages are going to call for sacrificial living and giving to help others both in our own church community, our mission partners overseas and others who the Lord may bring to us. The rise in mental health across all ages, and continuing homelessness are also set to continue. The call for us all to be witness for Jesus wherever we are does not change, we would love you all to join a group and do the frontlines small group course which helps us to be inspired to live out our faith wherever we are. A group of people are planning to re start Alpha courses to encourage anyone to bring friends who may have an interest in our faith.
We have so much to be thankful to the Lord for who has enabled us by His grace to come through the difficulties of the last few years and still be in good shape to continue Jesus’ work.
We also thank you for your faithfulness to Jesus and the family here at MBC which enables it to be a blessing to others. We look forward to growing deeper with you being that beautiful fragrance of Christ in our community and together bearing much fruit for Jesus.

## Treasurer's Report
You will see the presentation of our accounts at our AGM, they will also be audited prior to their presentation to the Charity Commission.
This year has seen us accumulate a general fund deficit of £11,709. Our general fund has reduced in the last 12 months from £43,145 to £31,436. This is £3,709 more than the budgeted (anticipated) deficit of £8,000.
Our deficit in 2020/21 was very similar (£11,920). Just £211 more than this year.
Of course, both of the last 2 years have been dominated by covid & it is undoubtedly a significant contributor to the deficits.
Despite it being a very difficult two years for everyone due to the pandemic, our general fund giving has recovered this year after a significant dip in 2020/21 (1st year of the pandemic). It is now close to prepandemic levels and indeed slightly higher than 2018/19

Whilst our 2020/21 deficit can be largely attributed to reduced giving, the same cannot be said this year.
The deficit this year has a number of contributing factors. Most notably, the rental arrears accumulated at our Manse by our tenant. In 2021/22 we have not received £5,740 of income that we would have anticipated receiving under normal circumstances. This alone is almost 50% of our deficit and would on its own have made the difference between comfortably meeting our budget, instead of exceeding it.
Nevertheless, despite our deficit we have continued to bless and support those who have found getting through the pandemic particularly difficult. We have spent £3,500 in aid for Nepal and over £3,000 supporting those within our fellowship and in our local community.
Through the generosity of those within our fellowship we have supported the Bags of Hope and Meals From Jesus initiatives that have met local needs through this difficult time.
Not to mention significant funds raised by you all for The Leprosy Mission, BMS Ukraine Appeal and the Uganda Fund.
Our Church continues to faithfully contribute towards the Baptist Mission Society (Home and World Mission) and the In Christ In Schools locally out of our income.
It is our prayer that all these funds will continue to change people’s lives and make known Jesus love to the world.
So, we put our future finances in His hands and put our faith in Jesus to continue providing for us as He has already generously done and guide us in our decisions on how the funds we are blessed with are used.

## **05** Church Administrator
## **Whatever your current circumstances may be, know that God is working behind the scenes on your behalf crafting a future that you could never imagine.**
**For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11**
This is one my favourite verses, and this is what I held onto when I knew I was leaving EMBA last year, nearly 9 months ago… how time has flown!
Little did I know that working as Church Administrator was the plan he had for me, infact when I heard that our previous administrator Colleen was leaving, I actually said to my husband ‘well, I’m not applying for that!’ But God had other ideas!
It is a joy to serve and there’s lots of variety which keeps me on my toes, from designing & editing our weekly newsletter, minuting, processing DBS’s and safeguarding training, updating our church database and calendar, funerals, general administration tasks and lots more besides.
Communication is definitely a big part of my role, and is an important one at that, whilst it’s not perfect, hopefully the changes that have been made this year, and as we learn together, it can only get better. One of those things involves the church newsletter each week, if you don’t receive one via email and would like to, then if you let me know I can arrange that. Also, if you are not on the prayer chain and would like to receive those requests via email, then again let me know. It’s best to email me on
mansbapchurch@gmail.com or fill in one of the welcome cards which are available from the stewards.

Some of the new things that have been implemented in the last year have included a new newsletter and welcome card, using our new logo and colour branding, and there’s more to come with a welcome pack, updated website and church email addresses, so watch this space.
For those of you on Facebook, you will have noticed that the church group has had a new injection and a special thanks to Sam for taking this role on. I would encourage you, if you are not in the group to join it, and please engage with the posts for this important online community.
It has been a learning curve, getting to grips with all that is involved in church administration and I want to especially thank Neil for all his ongoing help and support.
As you read the rest of the reports, I am sure that you will agree that God is definitely at work and many are using their talents and gifts, there’s always room for more so why not pray as you read them and ask God to open a door for you to serve him in the church.

## **Children, Family & Youth**

Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5
As we reflect on the past year, how easy it can be to bring to mind the more challenging times we have faced with continued uncertainty of guidance, changing restrictions, and also some difficult family circumstances and personal loss; yet, as we have taken time to stop – with an attitude of gratitude – we have been in awe as we have caught glimpses of God at work, seeing the blessings he has bestowed upon us and the wonders He has done. Even in the shaky times of our lives, we can hold on to the truth that God is unshakable and immovable, a faithful promise keeper and a sure foundation.
## **WHAT AN AWESOME GOD!**
As the Psalm above notes, were we to attempt to tell of all God has done in this report, there would be too many deeds to declare! Therefore, we have picked out a few of the highlights we have rejoiced over together, before giving further details relating to some of our different groups:
We have to start by sharing our sincere joy - that we are truly blessed to have so many children, families and young people within our family. We love their presence with us but also have been so encouraged this year by their willingness, eagerness and passion to participate in worship, to serve and to use their gifts - and what a gifted bunch they are! It has been wonderful to watch God at work in their lives: we have celebrated new commitments to Jesus that have been made, a baptism and many testimonies that all ages have shared with us of hearing God’s voice and experiencing His presence with them in their everyday situations.
We are so thankful to God for the amazing team of people we have who bring a multitude of gifts and who work tirelessly to serve our children, families and young people. We are blessed to have volunteers with skills in different areas so we can make provision for the wide range of ages we have (from 0 – 18) and the different giftings and areas of interest we see developing in our younger members. .
We have also been blessed by so many who continue to encourage us
through words of encouragement, practical support and with prayer. Thank you for championing the work, holding our arms up when the going gets tough and for covering the ministry in prayer. We need you all and value each contribution so much – whether it is visible service or behind the scenes
what we love – to work with children and young people! In addition to the running of our usual activities, we were blessed to be able to welcome around 80 people at each of our seasonal events this year to build relationships and to share the good news:

I can't quite believe it has been IM whole years since I wrote the
2020 AGM report which outlined the vision for our Sunday morning groups
for children and young people. Given the situation with covid al the time, we
were having to delay ihe implementaiion of this- however, it is wonderful to
be able to share that. within the last year, this has been able to come to
fruition (pardon the plant punl)
You may recall the picture I had, of each child growng from a little acom to a mighty oak tree, with firm
roots in Jesus and strong connections wilh the wider 'plant' community.

Over the course of the year, we have seen a stea(ty increase in
the number of children and young people within our groups
and are now Teally blessed lo have 38 registered in addition to
a number ol under 35 who we look forward to welcoming In
the future at the appropriate time.
Our groups seek to have a balance of ingredients within a session to enable the children to have fun. engage
and parlicipale logether as we learn more aboul God and seek lo grow in our relationship with Him. We try
to get a good balance of both education and experience in our acttvrties.. we want our children and young
people to know about God and the truths of the Bible. bul also to develop a relalionship wilh Him that is
experiential, coming out of meaningful encounters.
'Chat and Catch, encounter times. a prayer method pioneered by the 'Parenting for Faith, group, forms a
key part of our practice. Using prompts and creative resources. we provide space to enable the children to
'chat' and share Ihings with God as well as giving an opportunity io 'calch' or hear from Him. Thanks lo the
wider congregation for the donations to help build up our bank of resources and for many within the team who
worked to create them according to different themes. It is wonderful lo be able to report that we are now well
equipped io encourage different methods of prayer and even more amazing to hear some of the testimonies of
hearing God's voice that have arisen as a result of their use!

Hearing from God: some of the responses made after

11 has lo be said Ihat Ihe leam- once again - have been incredible throughout the transttion back inlo
Sunday morning groups. With covid restrictions and ever-changing gUTrdan, the leaders have had lo get lo
grips wilh new procedures and undergo extra work to clean materials and Organise the space in order to
ensure safety. Amidst all of that, they've laken on board new sign in procedures, incorporated the new
prayer resources and have implemented the use of a new curriculum. What a dream team! It has been a
real joy to see the rooms sel up on Sunday mornings full of exciling, well-resourced aclivities and to see the
children and young people coming out of groups with a red buzz of energy and enthusiasm.
Thank you so much for all that you do and my prayer is that God would richly bless you all as you continue to
give your time and energy to serve in this way.

In Matthew 22.37-40. Jesus says.. "'Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and wrth all your mind., This is the first and
grealest commandment. And Ihe second is like it.. 'Love your neighbour as
yourself.. It's all about love.

I have found Ihat people who work wilh (k5-year olds and their parents
overtlow with love. Love is so important. Showing ihe love of God to those
around us is whai Jesus commands us to do. Part of loving our neighbour
is not onty sharing God's love practically but declaring God's love with our
words.
In Matthew 28'.19-20, Jesus speaks His very last words before ascending to Heaven.. Therefore, go and make
disciples of all nations. bapiising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
leaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely l am with you always. to the very end of
Ihe age."
Jesus calls us to actively go and tell others about Ihe relationship we can have with our Heavenly Father. We
can love the socks off people, bul if we don't actively invile Ihem to become friends with God, Ihey'll never know
why we're loving them.
Wilh Ihis in mind and in line with the vision Lucy and I have for the children, families and youth work I have
begun to encourage this in all our groups. I believe that declaring God's love actively can go hand-in-hand Wilh
sharing God's love practically. We need lo share God's love in Order to grow trusting relaiionships with all who
attend the group. And then alongside this, V need to declare God's love in order for those in the group to hear
and receive God's love and friendship.
First Steps
Looking back to the last report we had just started our new toddler group Firsi steps, Slowly we have
added to our numbers and continued with a booking system. We began buildinq stronqer
relationships with both children and parents due to this veklY
commitment. We have been able to integrate fun, friendship
and faith inlo our group. Each term now has a Godly theme,
a mixture of Christian and non-christian songs and a prayer.
We have spenl a lol of lime supporting and praying for these
amilies through Ihe ever-changing limes. It was an enormous step for
lots of adults an(1 toddlers lo begin mixing again especially those children who
had been boin during lockdown.
We have been blessed once again wlh a £300 grant from Councilor Andre Camilleri who attended our
Christingle session. We have been able to bless the children with books at Christmas and gifts for both
the children and adults at other events during the year. Our latest purchase is a new slide for our
weekly sessions.
MBC YOUTH - Lucy Gell
The aims of OUT work with young people have developed inlo two main strands".
• To welcome, value and provide a space for young people-
that they may experience a sense of belonging and acceptance and
would experience God's love for them, encounter Him and grow in their
understanding of who He is.
• To nurture and encourage the young people aiready wiihin i)ur Church
lamily. enabling them to use and develop their God grven gifts.
We usually meet iwce a month during term lime. once for a sociai evening
and once io provide an opportunity for ihe young people to serve.
Youth Social
Each month, we have a social night with different themes, vthere we have food, fun and
games together. At ihe end of the evening, we share a message and provide an
opportunity for encounter, sometimes using our creative prayer resources. It has been
wonderful lo meet new young people Ihis year as many in our group have broughl
friends and oihers have heard about us and have joined from ihe community.. wie
usually have up to 15 in attendance. It has been a tremendous privilege to see God at
work in
lives as new commilmenls have been made and many have responded to prayer
ministry. Please Coniinue to pray for us- for each young person on iheir own
journey of faith and tor all the team as seek lo support. love and guide the
group in this important responsibility of discipleship.

OUT trips throughout the year have been a highlight. Pizza in ihe Park and Go Karting
were great fun and helped deepen our relaiionships bul wiihout a doubi. the 'Dreaming

We gathered together wth young people from many oiher Churches io worship, hear
from God's word and to enjoy a silent disco. After such an amazing time and having

Mini Messy Church
Once Firsi steps was up and iunning, I was aware of the gap
beeen Sunday groups and toddlers. Messy church has also been
successful so now it was the time to try it with toddlers. We have been
running monthly since October 2021 and have been sharing a bible
story (Creation. Noah. Abraham and Sarah, the birth of Jesus
(Christsnas session). Joseph and an Easter session) with messy
crafts linked to each one. Many families have been attending from
toddler group most of them with no former church contact. From this
we have had lots of positive feedback such as parents watching the
Chrislian songs on YouTube at home to lots of these families joining
us for our Breakfast & Christmas service and Easter Trail Event.
Wonderfully Made
Wonderfully Made is our small group for parents with children aged
beeen 0-4 years. We started this in November wilh the aim of sharing
our Christian faith in a friendly way while running various courses. The
first course was seven sessions each with a short video fi'lled
advice and encouragement for parents. We have jusi begun our next
course called Parentalk by Care for the Famity,

Parents Bible Study
We have continued to meet weekly on zoom due to this fitting around the life of
busy parents trying to get their children to bed and being short of time. We
have done the Alpha course and more recently a series called Be Still. This
had very practically challenges for our faith which we all enjoyed. Probably the
best part of our time together each week is sharing what God is doing in our
life's and supporting each other in prayer throughout the week.

## Worship & Prayer
How powerful are these words? How challenging, yet they spoke to me with Gods love, that wherever, or whatever our circumstances, we find ourselves … He’s with us, standing with us, enabling us to worship and praise. What amazing love and Grace.
The worship team have gone through an interesting journey, both during covid and post covid and its lockdowns, social distancing, limited singers and musicians, but we are working together to move forward.
Through the last year we have welcomed new members to our team, which has been amazing both to the musical side and the technical side, and we are hoping others would like to join this exciting journey of giving to our heavenly father with our gifts He has given us.

## Vision
Over the past few weeks God has shown me the importance of all-inclusive worship for all ages. Children and young people, the new people we are getting through our doors, the new families, our older members all worshipping together, surely this will be as it is heaven all worshipping with one voice, to our amazing loving heavenly father and His son our Saviour our Lord Jesus.
## Aims
- Our aims are to follow a format of- New, Favourite, and Older songs each service.
- This means introducing contemporary worship songs alongside those we love, our favourites, and then a traditional song or hymn.
- To develop the team in new and exciting ways with one aim to -Glorify God only
- To be a welcoming team continuing to move forward and break through by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- To listen to God our heavenly father for His guidance in all things.
Developments
We have now developed three service styles.
1. Morning Praise and Worship.
2. Get Set -Family and Youth
3. Traditional worship -Evening Communion
What a blessing we have as church family, to have the energy and enthusiasm of the youth and children involved.
## Refresh and Blessing
We hope to launch this as soon as possible as it had to be put on hold because of Covid.
It will be an evening for the team (worship/tech) to come together to strengthen our relationships both with each other and our heavenly father.
To also pray for each other and to worship and praise together.

## **We are committed to practise every Thursday 7pm**
As you know we meet each morning for prayer and worship between 4 to 8 people come faithfully some are new to church and it’s such a blessing to see them .
The new format for the monthly church prayer meeting is going well, it’s certainly not boring and time seems to fly by
.
There is always room for improvement and I would encourage more people to come as it is should be an integral pert of our Christian life praying together as a church family!

## Tech Team
We are pleased to welcome Richard and John to the tech team and still look forward to adding further members to ensure media and sound facilities are available whenever needed.
The media equipment has been upgraded to allow one computer to provide the data for streaming as well as the in-house presentation and further upgrades are in hand to allow unique video distribution to all screens. It is planned to provide video and sound coverage of the services in the old office when it has been cleared and refurbished, to
allow parents to join in the worship if they are concerned with their toddlers not settling.
Unfortunately, the big screen in the church failed a few weeks ago and has had to be replaced which involved some major rewiring.
There is not much to say about the audio as the new sound desk is performing well and we are learning more and more about it. With the facilities of the desk, we are providing settings for various groups to be able to use the sound without needing to have a member of the tech team present.
As said at the beginning of this report, we are still looking for more support on the tech side, the work is very interesting, challenging and can be great fun to be part of the team. We need you!

## **15 -16** Study Groups
The first thing to report is that we are moving forward in small steps on the DMM pathway. This is encouraging and we continue to be amazed at how God is making us a multi-cultural body here in MBC.
While it is true to say that most of the groups are still meeting online, we are seeing a gradual shift back to a gathering together in person. Each group monitors this for themselves, making their own arrangements that suits their individual needs.
The newest of the groups are all choosing to meet in person.
So- a look back to give thanks and a look forward:
**For our Advent reflection in 2021, we studied together Krish Kandiah’s “A Strange Christmas”**
**Familiar scriptures looked at in a new way to help us recapture the wonder of the season of Christ’s birth.**
Learning from the generations of God’s people who waited for the Messiah; considering the challenge of hospitality; grasping the wisdom of God’s strange plan of salvation.
**Through Lent this year we have studied a booklet called ‘A Passion for Christ’ which has taken us through the letters to the Corinthians that Paul wrote.**
**We have looked at how we can turn difficult times into opportunities to share our dependence on God; how we can witness through suffering; how we need to pray for one another with passion.**
We have been challenged to live with renewed passion for Christ, “spreading the aroma of Christ” and “shining with the light of Christ” through all our experiences of life.
Between the main sessions of Advent and Lent, the individual groups have worked through many courses as well as individual books of the Bible: personal choices for what the group needs.
Our Coopers group studied Titus and were surprised at how much there was in it. A ‘book’ of only 2 pages in the Bible but don’t be fooled! There is 5 weeks or more of deep study and we have made available our notes for anyone wanting to study Titus individually or in a group setting.
We thank God not only for His word but also for the men and women who write these coursed and devotional material that is available to help us in our studies and on our journeys. God has used their gifts to help us learn and to challenge us.
As we look forward, you may be interested to know about the groups already meeting.
The Monday afternoon group which is held at Church was initially set up for the period of the Advent studies only. However this group has continued to meet weekly and is now facilitated by Neil and Elaine AND it has tripled in size since starting. Hallelujah!
A new group has started since Lent which is ‘Ladies Only’ -so please speak to Jeannette Denton if you wish to join them.
Paula continues to work with parents to encourage them and help them grow in faith.
Eight other groups meet on various days - all at different times ; some weekly- some fortnightly.
Corina is starting a new group in June which will be for the Romanian speaking ladies. Another Hallelujah!
**The current study material is “Life On The Frontline”.**
**This is an LICC course over 6 weeks and aims to help us understand how God uses us exactly where we are – where He has placed us – on our Frontline.**

**One of the wonderful things about being a disciple is that God takes our strengths, personalities and situations and uses them for His purposes. God will already have used you on your Frontline – even if you have not been fully aware of it!**
This Frontline course will help us recognise our own Frontline, help us understand how God can use us there, encourage us to help one another with the challenges on our individual Frontlines and show us the relevance of the Bible as we serve where God has placed us.
There is always room for more people to join in these groups and there is always the option for new groups to set up, especially as we are growing as a family.
We all need spaces to ask questions about life as well as the Bible. We all need a safe place to ask for help and prayer. We all need a laugh as we find out about one another. (Coopers group is renowned for including the topic of chunky Kit Kats in just about every study! I wonder who loves them???)
Whatever we study together, fellowship has deepened through these times and friendships have been both found and strengthened. Our knowledge has been expanded and God, in His grace, continues to both challenge us and transform us.

## **17** Pastoral
At the beginning of lockdown in March 2020 the leadership organised 'telepastors'. This was a way of keeping in touch with everyone, when we couldn't meet together. Telepastors had a group of people who they phoned or contacted to check everyone was ok. Now we are able to meet, we are still maintaining this system of caring for each other. We are aware it is a process and we need to reassess regularly. We are a church family and like any family, we care for each other.
It is wonderful that so many of the church groups have reopened and we are able to meet up again (almost) normally.
Please do feel free to have a chat with myself or one of the leadership team if you have any worries or needs, or indeed if you just want to know more about the telepastor scheme.
Also, if you know of anyone from the fellowship who is in hospital, please let us know and we can arrange a visit or ask the chaplain at the hospital to visit.

## Mission Report
As a church we continue to support Baptist World Mission and Home Mission. David Ardron is our representative and keeps in touch with our missionaries. We look forward to a visit from Claire Bedford on June 5th when she will tell us more of what is happening in Chad. Lunch at the church afterwards will give us greater opportunity to chat with her.
David has also been fundraising for friends in Uganda. Pastor Philip Lotimong has used the funds in resourcing the children at the orphanage and school as well as the work of the community centre. Pastor Philip also continues David’s work of leadership training. We are glad to be able to support this fellowship through David.
During the year Chhahari Nepal has supported families in need in many remote districts by providing basic foodstuff. They have also helped with roofing and rebuilding homes affected by wind, fire and flood. Once the schools started again they have provided training for the nursery teachers and resources for educational play. We were delighted to hear the deputy mayor reverse his negative opinion of a Christian charity, and thank them for all the good work they have been doing.
Milan and Sangeeta, currently residing in Pokhara, have finally been invited to the graduation ceremony for their Master’s degree in theology. Many thanks to the church for supporting them through the three years of study. This year they have been supporting their local church, but ask our prayers for their future ministry.
Street church at Oaktree Lane estate with Empire Street and Life Church has continued each Friday afternoon. We provide bags of basic food for 24 homes each week and from this two homes have opened up for Bible study and witness so far. We also provide coffee tea and soup under the gazebo along with yesterday’s supplies of sandwiches and pastries freely donated by Greggs. Sausage rolls are usually popular!As they listen to the gospel each week we have seen a softening amongst the regular attenders and we continue to pray for them to know the Lord. Our thanks to those who give the word, take the Bible studies and provide the transport each week. We have welcomed two ladies from street church into Renew wellbeing, who now come regularly.
Mansfield Town centre on Friday mornings is where you could find Steve Pickering and Jeanette Denton spreading the good news of Jesus to the local shoppers. They have continued faithfully through the year sometimes joined by others from other churches and from ours, but often just the two of them. Some of those they have spoken to and prayed for have come to church, including Richard who was baptised recently.
We thank the Lord for each one involved in the mission of our church, for those who give their time and energy as well as those who support financially and in prayer. Thank you all.

Street Church is going well, God is really at work in the Oaktree residential estate!
There is a good number of people who attend and actually look forward to us (The God Squad) coming each week. We have recently started bible study with a few of the attendees in two of the homes on the estate, and one lady as given her life to Jesus, two other people have asked for bibles. God is breaking through. it's just so amazing.
It really is a privilege to work alongside and build relationships with this community, showing them God's love and provision
Evangelism in town is going really well too!
We are having some great conversations with people and praying with lots, building relationships with the market traders and local community, singing and praising Jesus in the bus stop with the locals, and bringing such a Christian presence to mansfield. God is at work !!!
## **20** Bags of Hope
We have seen a change this year in the need for the full 'bags of hope' that feed the family for a week for every meal.
We have only had a few requests for these from Queen Elizabeth School and a referral via another minister. Instead, it has been more of a blessing bag that we have been called upon to provide for people who have recently moved or are having a hard time. These bags have a mixture of things for a few meals and lunches but are mainly store cupboard items tins and jars.
We had a large delivery from Queen Elizabeth school in December of these things which kept us going until February.
We have been able to bless a few families brought to our attention with emergency food shops, one of which was a referral from Butterfly, the local refuge for people escaping abuse.
We also supported a family referred by Lucy, over a 3 month period, with a shop once a month. As well as people arriving at church looking for help with food. We have been blessed with a money gift of £40.00 which enabled us to top the cupboard up, and a large blessing from Sam of food for the cupboard to go in outreach bags on oaktree and the blessing bags.
Each week we make up 24 bags with food in which is distributed on a Friday at Street Church. Daniel has been helping each Thursday evening over a 6 month period towards his Duke of Edinburgh award. In these bags are usually a loaf of bread, something to make a meal, like 200gm of pasta, and a pasta sauce, a tin of beans or soup, 16 tea bags, and a packet of biscuits.
These are well received each week at Street Church on oaktree and once a month Ash has arranged a Fairshare food delivery which has allsorts in it. Sue sorts these out and we plan a meal around whatever comes. On the Easter week, we were also blessed with 21 Easter eggs which went in the bags as well.
We thank all the team who help with these bags and step in and shop when the need arises, and the continued financial giving that makes it all possible.

## **21** BMS Church Partners
Claire Bedford is our BMS Link missionary working as a pharmacist at the Guinebor II Hospital, on the outskirts of N’Djamena, the capital of Chad.
The hospital welcomes many patients from all over N’Djamena, the rest of Chad, and from neighbouring countries. This demonstrates the confidence people have in the care the hospital gives. Please pray that this is a great witness to the patients of the love of Jesus in action. At the end of January the hospital had their annual board meetings, when many things were reviewed concerning the running of the hospital. It was a joy to give God praise for what had been accomplished. This included 14,000 people seen in the outpatient clinic, 5,000 people seen in the emergency room, the 1,949 babies born, and 65,000 lab tests performed. The hospital staff give God the glory. The hospital is His work and they see it as a privilege to be part of it.
The Ethiopian chaplain recounted some of the many lives he has spoken Truth into and shared exciting news of people coming to faith. Becoming a Christian from the majority faith is almost always extremely dangerous. Claire asks prayer for our new brothers and sisters as they walk in the way of Truth, often at great personal cost.
Claire is grateful for those who support the BMS mission workers at Guinebor, and those who support the various grants that BMS sends the hospital each year. One such grant is enabling the ‘Senior Management Drugs Fund’. As pharmacist, Claire will take the lead on this. The idea is for the hospital to procure a three months’ supply of medicines with the money, then the money generated by the hospital with the sale of these supplies will be kept to buy the next three months’ worth. This should lead the hospital away from the current method of stock procurement which relies on credit and the good will of the suppliers. Claire is asking for prayer regarding this. It is likely to be, in Claire’s own words, ‘a right headache’ or ‘brain-melter’!
Towards the close of 2021 Claire spent 13 days in quarantine as a result of Covid. She is grateful not to have any long-lasting effects.
Claire says we can praise God that the internet worked well during the board meetings (they were hybrid in-person and Zoom) and that they were able to reflect on all God has been doing at the hospital during 2021. Praise can also be given for the grant from BMS to start the revolving drugs fund, and that she has no long-lasting effects after having Covid.
PRAYER POINTS
- Prayers are asked for the Senior Management Team as they manage the hospital on a day-to-day basis, and also think about the future and what God wants them to be doing.
- For new believers from the majority faith, as they live out their faith as Issa (Jesus) followers in a land where leaving their family’s faith can have serious consequences.
- For Claire as she tries to set up the revolving drugs fund, for wisdom and abundant patience.
- For Claire’s travel plans. She is due to visit the UK shortly after this report is published.
- For the country of Chad as it continues through its 18 months transition period since the president died and the military transition council took over. Pray that wisdom and justice will reign in the hearts and minds of both military and civilians involved in the transition.
Claire thanks us for our ongoing interest in and the support of Guinebor II Hospital. Our support is very much appreciated. ## **22** Recovery
**‘Heal me Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.’ Jeremiah 17 v14**
## **The Recovery Course follows a set of 12 spiritual steps which puts Christ at the heart of**
**recovery** . The course recognises that our destructive habits may be a consequence of pain, hurt, broken relationships, loneliness or perhaps an issue from childhood. Consequently, the course encourages selfunderstanding and allows God to heal damaged emotions as we find a greater knowledge of His love for us and as we deepen our relationship with Him. Often this gives healing with greater peace and hope for those involved in the course as they seek to restore relationships or perhaps break the chains of obsessions or addictions.
## **Recovery groups may take place in face to face small groups or with individuals via zoom**
**depending on an individual’s circumstance.** Each participant is encouraged to personally spend time reflecting and answering a series of questions, some of which they may feel they wish to share with others in the group and this goes hand in hand with prayer for the individual. Most of the face to face sessions take place on Mondays and therefore, because of confidentiality purposes, we are grateful if the church is not used by others during 9am until 2.15pm on these Mondays.
**Recovery sessions have been valuable to the leaders and participants alike.** It has been a great
source of encouragement to see how lives can be transformed by an atmosphere where renewal and healing can occur, as the Lord meets us in our need and raises our expectations of what He can do. As a shared recovery group it is essential to adhere to agreed guidelines and a commitment from each person attending. Confidentiality being a crucial part of this. In addition, the guidelines include maintaining an environment where non-judgemental attitudes, unconditional love, acceptance and respect can be embraced. Consequently this leads to a safe place for sharing being created, where leaders listen under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We recognise that the Lord alone is able to heal and restore and therefore we recognise the need to soak every meeting in prayer, both within meetings and during the rest of the week. We would greatly value your prayers for the recovery sessions too.

We thank God that we have been able to meet most Thursdays from 10 am to 1.30pm during this past year. From being limited to 15 attenders because of Covid restrictions, we are now able to accommodate more people and have been glad to welcome newcomers.
We meet in the hall area for our activities and chat. There is the Quiet Room for prayer, but for our midday prayers we appreciate the extra space in the church and while there is no pressure for people to join in, nearly everyone values the time for quiet reflection centred around praying the Lord’s Prayer. The team begins and ends each session with prayer which is a real blessing and helps us to continue in a prayerful attitude during the day.
People have commented on how much they appreciate coming on a Thursday – for many it is the highlight of the week and a reason to get up in the morning and get out of the house. We seek to provide a loving welcome and a friendly atmosphere and a safe space for people to find renewal emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We praise God for the positive benefits we see and for new people finding acceptance where it’s OK not to be OK.
The hosts give valuable time and commitment each week and we are especially grateful for those who help set up the tables and clear up, and to Sue and the kitchen team who provide us with coffee, tea and a nutritious lunch.
We miss Daira’s cheerful presence and energy but are glad to see a steady stream of helpers in the kitchen. To all involved we say a big ‘Thankyou’.
We appreciate the support of Ruth Rice, our national leader, and Sarah Fegredo our Eastern Area Rep, and have been glad to welcome visits from interested folk in the locality who are investigating the process of setting up their own Renew Wellbeing spaces or wanting to find out more.
