## **Church @the Cross Birkenhead Annual Report** 

**(Formerly Charing Cross and Tranmere Methodist)** 

## **September 2020 to August 2021** 

This is the first report under our new name. Like everyone else last year we did the best we could under COVID-19 restrictions. 

We continued to worship and run Youth Club and Guides over Zoom, it is a blessing that we have this technology in this day and age but it doesn’t suit everyone, so we kept in touch over the telephone keeping each other safe. 

Some of our members worked like trojans in bubbles preparing the church for when we could re-open decorating and moving equipment and furniture up from Charing Cross. 

Our puppetry team were still busy working in a bubble, they managed to make some videos for our you tube channel.(if you put travelling foam heads into the you tube search you can look them up.) It currently has 816 views and hundreds more on our Facebook page. 

They also visited four primary schools in the run up to Christmas when COVID-19 figures were lower. The Children loved them, and we have been invited back next year. 

For another project they teamed up with Moreton Methodist to help produce their online Kids Ark club which again is a great success on Moreton’s Facebook. 

Christmas eve we decided to have our fist face to face service which was great for many of us to meet in person again after so long, but it couldn’t continue as January saw us in another lockdown. 

So back to Zoom and still many of the team beavering away decorating and preparing for when we can start re-open in June. 

In August we ran a summer holiday club in partnership with Wirral Council for three sessions per week throughout the summer holidays. We provided packed lunches for 30 children each day and ran fun activities from the grounds outside the church. 

We also organised six ten pin bowling trips and one to Chester Zoo as part of the programme. 

The children and young people all had a great time and for some this was the first time they meet up with some of their friends since lock down. In fact, for one young boy the Chester Zoo trip was his first time out of the house for anything other than shopping. 

We plan to start up our youth clubs indoors from September, we all hope and pray the worst of COVID-19 is behind us.
