ENTERPRISING YOUTH EDUCATION TRUSTEE'S REPORT SEP 2024-AUG 2025

Brief summary

2024-2025 has been a difficult year for the charity: After providing nearly 1Tb of data to the Planning Office/ Bedford council with an application of Lawful Development of Existing Use since the council claimed they had no record of the charity at its current location; they now state that the charity has to apply for change of use each time we start a new project, even though EYE is educationally based. Quite ridiculous when we are encouraged and required by funders to have participatory involvement; an extremely strange approach from the Bedford Council, especially when they claim to head a progressive town!

Besides these setbacks the charity has continued to deliver projects to support local needs. With the continued focus on being a STEMs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) provider; E.Y.E. kas progressed by modernising it's educational reach by offering various classes through Virtual Reality (VR). As well as this, EYE has continued with the used furniture, Food Distribution, Donations and Enterprise projects.

Second-hand Furniture Store

In-house Project

In line with EYE's environmental policy the charity has continued to deliver it's recycling/up-cycling program where used furniture which had been destined for landfill is refurbished by a group of young people weekly..

FairShare Program

FairShare program has allowed the charity to provide an equivalent of 2726 meals to vulnerable groups (Mainly elderly) local to the charity.

As the cost of living increases, the Charity envisage that the demand for this service will only increase.

Free Meals/Food Project

This program has worked very well with the FairShare partnership. EYE has supported up to 23 people local to the charity, mostly senior citizens who have been affected by the cost of living crisis. Food parcels have been packed and distributed by teams of young volunteers.

We also ran a project aimed towards tackling obesity amongst young children. The workshops were run in partnership with local groups delivered in a way that made cooking fun, quick and easy. 6 classes were set up with local groups and schools targeting young people and families the project provided them with necessary hygiene skills and skills to cook economical, healthy and notorious meals. The project was thankfully funded by The Connolly Foundation UK.

The EYE Charity has donated to follow groups and causes:

For the past five years the charity has raised funds to help provide support to other local charities. The Redeemed Christian Church of God - Fenlake Road Bedford. The charity donated food parcels and chocolates and sweets for children over Christmas.

Local Community. E.Y.E has provided parcels and meals to local elderly affected by the cost of living crisis. Food Donations beyond Bedford area which include EYE donated foods to The Guru Ravidass Gurdwara Luton to distribute to local students and local schools.

Raffle donation - Donations of gift were made to The Guru Ravidass Gurdwara Luton & Mash farm fund raising group

Rise Through Enterprise - In House Project

EYE's on going in-house workshops aim to engage with the unemployed that are facing multiple deprivations because of their age, ethnicity, gender and economic situation. To encourage the idea of being self-employed, enterprise is the key focus of many of these workshops. The funding received this year has given 10 people 16-24 years to participate and volunteer in a food and hygiene courses. These young people also helped to prepare parcel for the partnership with the Fairsshare program. Our commitment with providing STEM works has also taken the charity toward skills and training delivered through Virtual Reality (VR), this is an excellent step forward as it allows the EYE to provide a variety of STEM courses in any space or room.

Donation from The John Apthorp Charity - Charity Number: 1102472

The John Apthorp Charity awarded E.Y.E £47,720 towards replacement windows at our centre. Work Started in early July 2025 and completed End of August 2025.

EYEworks (In House Project)

The award above also gave the opportunity for work experience to a group of young people which provided skills and training in construction (window fitting).

Program still currently on hold.

ENTERPRISING YOUTH EDUCATION FOR THE PERIOD 31ST AUGUST 2025

REPORT OF THE ACCOUNTANTS TO THE TRUSTEES OF ENTERPRISING YOUTH EDUCATION

I am reporting on the accounts for the charity for the year ended 31st August 2025.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

As the charity's trustee you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, you consider that the audit requirement of Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act to follow the procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(b) of the 2011 Act, and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent Examiner's Statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me resonable cause to believe that in any matterial respect the requirements have not been met, or 2. to which, in my opinion, attentions should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
