Trustee's Report Sep 2022- Aug 2023
Brief sumrna
2022 2023 3 disappointing year due to the Bedford Borough Council being miss-
informed about the history of the charity. The miss-information given to the council
has led to them claiming that the charity has not been providing charitable services
at its property for more than 10 years and therefore planning permission needed to
be applied for. They also claimed that their records showed a company called
Quasar occupied the property: Quasar has not operated in the property EYE
currently occupies for 20 years. Obviously a clear miss-understanding as EYE has
been delivering services at this address since 2CK)9. Although an issue that will be
resolved as EYE has over 10 years of evidence presenting projects held at the
property, the council has requested this evidence along with costly applitations. The
charity had to involve advisors which put financial pressure and strain on its
resources- something EYE could have done without especially when very little
funding has been received. Anyhow, we are confident that this matter will be
cleared quickly so the EYE can continue delivering services. However. while this
matter is being resolved some projects have been put on hold slowing down the
charity from progressing forward.
Although the year has been challenging for EYE. the charity has still managed to
deliver support to the best of its capability, whether through partnership work or
through current and new in house projert5. And despite the obstacles the charity
seems to face it once again is recognised by those from outside Bedford for the work
and sUPPOrt it provides for its local community the all members of EYE were
honoured to have one of It's Trustee's to be invited to Buckingham Place to receive
MBE from Prince William.
Second-hand Furniture Store {Chartty Arm)
In-house Project
In line with EYE'5 environmental policy the charity has continued to deliver
recyclinyjup-cycling program where used furniture which had been destined
for landfill is refurbish.
Although EYE has not received support this year for this
project, the charity has continued this work at a much smaller
scale working with local or8anisation who sign post and direct
learners to the charity.

Trustee's Report Sep 2023 - Aug 2024
Brief summa
2023 - 2024 has been a slow year for the charity.. Due to delays from the Bedford
Borough Council to review evidence of the ch3rit¢s existence at its current property
for over 10 years, submitted in a Lawful Development application. These delays
have kept the charity stagnant and unable to apply for grants that would normally
support the delivery of the work it does.
Although hindered, the charity has had a promising year with our free meals project.
E.Y.E has taken the opportunity to be involved with the Fairshare program. This
involves collectirsg food close to the use by date and distributing them to vulnerable
8roups local to the charity.
Second-hand Furniture Store
In-house Projett
In line with EYE'S environmental policy the charity has continued to deliver
recycling/up-cycling pro8ram where used furniture which had been destined
for landfill is refurbish.
Although EYE has not received support this year for this
project. the charity has continued this work at a much smaller
scale working with local organisations who sign post and
direct learners to the charity.
Fairshare Program
As mentioned in the brief above, the Fairshare program has allowed the
charity to provide an equivalent of 1708 meals to vulnerable groups (Mainly
elderly) local to the charity. This is a massive achievement for a program the
charity has only just signed up to. As the cost of living increases, the Charity
envisa8e that the demand for this service will only increase.
Free Meals/Food Parcels Project
This program has worked very well with the Fairshare partnership. EYE has
supported up to 20 people local to the charity. mostly senior citizens who
have been affected by the cost of living crisis. Food parcels have been
packed and distributed by teams of young volunteers.
