The reduction in demand is associated with Government interventions to prevent poverty during lockdowns caused by the Covid outbreak. There was a jump in demand when the Government withdrew the Universal Credit top up. See chart below

The Foodbank has continued to be blessed by food donations but this was reduced during the Covid lockdown partly because normal collections were not allowed. Donations from the Permanent Collection Points have remained high at Sainsbury in Mere Green and Tesco in Aston Lane. A thank you to all these generous people.
Professional Coordinator appointed. The generous grants received during lockdown enabled the Board to appoint a salaried 20 hours per week project coordinator. Following competitive interviews a coordinator was appointed. The post is for 2 years.
Volunteers take the strain - The Foodbank distribution sessions have been 100% staffed by volunteers. Volunteers have also run the warehouse and held cash and food collections
Distribution sessions - The foodbank has three weekly distribution centres. Monday at St Matthews church in Nechells, Wednesday at the Elim church in Ward End, and Fridays at the Salvation Army Centre in Aston.
Warehouse – St Matthews Community Hall receives donations on a Tuesday mornings.
It has been another busy year for the Foodbank warehouse. 40.8 tonnes were received in donation and 42 tonnes distributed. During the year a second overflow distribution store was opened at Nechells Methodist church.
Advice Services – Throughout the year a grant from ASDA via Trussell Trust has funded the provision of an advice worker at food distribution sessions in initially at Aston & Nechells and from May 2021 also at Ward End. In 2021 272 clients received
2
advice at distribution sessions. The service is provided by staff from Birmingham Settlement, this partnership is working well.
Future – The top priority is working to the Charity's objectives. We are pleased that there is now an advice worker at food distribution sessions but we remain concerned that while poverty is all around us CAN DO is not expanding to undertake more work.
Annual Public Meeting – It was impractical to hold the annual public meeting in 2021 but one will be held when practicable in 2022.
