We aro increasingly well known for the quality Lif our digilal as wo11 as lace to lac8 programme delivery.
In 2024 we again d8llv8red a successful Yorkshire Festivgl of Story IYFOSI, with in person and online
events.
We have conllnued to develop our base, the Joinery, so that it can become a niche venue in t8rms of
digital and broadcast capacity, and local and online programme dellvery.
We have completed our second yèar as an Arts Council England National Portlollo Organisation. In Ihe
knowledge Ihal our funding package to support our core eosis (originally for four y&ars until March 271 is
now extended until March 2028
The ftsll detail of our work in the lasl financial year is glv8n in the various s6ciions of this Truslee5' r8POrt. From
another successful YFOS, mastercla5ses, ￿mMLIn1ty based activities, IhB further developmant of Sloryful Way. thé

In March 2025, we launched Stories fDr Schools. This flagship programmè delivers high-qualily storytelling and
curriculum-linked video conlent to schools and homeschoolers. By the end of thp financial year, we had reached
107 school sgtlings. The slle now hosts 159 iideos, with 63 rnore in pioduclion, The platform al80 ir)cludes CPD
m3leri8ls and special resources lo support themed days such as Diwali, Rernembr8nce Day, Africa Day, Black
History Month, and others.

We continue lo invest in the latest bioadeasl technology al the Joinery, which will enable us to irrprove our dellvory

The Storyful Way
The Sloryful Way combines storytelling, mindlulnBSS and creative activities lo support emoliDnal wellbeing
schools. This year, The Storyful Way prograrnrlle d8rronstraled measurable Suc￿sS In supporting children's
emotional development across 11 schools and 195 pupils 8ged 9-11. Our rigorous evaluation, using validated
assessment tools including the Slirling Wellbeing Scale and Childien's VIA Scale, revealed statistically signlflcant
Improvements In seven key areas compar9d to non-participating comparator groups.
Chlldren who 8Xperien￿d The Sloryful Way showed statistically me2ningful g8ins in faimess, soclal intelligence,
lovp and connection, bravery, perspective, and overall etnotional wellbeing. Th8 programme consistently
outperformed control groups ac1055 multiple measures of emollonal development and positive emotiollal stales.
Parents and teachers consistently reported childrgn 8haring programme stories al home, using breathing
techniques during stressful moments, and demonslraling more thoughtful emotional responses. The evaluation
Confirms that The Slorylul Way is not merely eng8ging entertalnment bul a Iranslormalknnal Intervention that equlps
children with practical emotional tools for life.
This evidence-based approach positions The Storyful Way as a scalable. Impactful solutlon for suppc>rting d)ildren's
mental heallh in educ21ional seltings nètionwide.

during the p8ndemic. on the experience the team has gained in lerms ol digital

opportunillss as we bulld on the post covid perlod.
2024125 was a150 significant in terms ol developino the thinking behind Slorle5 lor Sohotsls, building
production and delivery expertlse. developing the ba¢k ¢alalogue. relevant partnerships, and 8xploring funding
opportunilies.
We had anolher successful Yorkshire Fesliwal ol Story.
We hav2 Secured funding from the Brl(ish Council and have just started a project called Lost and Found,
working with Msitu Wa Ndoto in Keny8. The project focuse5 on storytèlling, 8rt5 and cultural heritage, and cenlres
on the Panga ya Saidi c8ve complex. the sile ol the world's oldest known human burial. dating back 78.000 years.
In 8 first for Kenya, it will be livestreatned ylobally.
The Charity has also reviewed 115 staffing and organis8tional structures, taking advanlage of natural churn
and staff r8tion81isalion lo bring in new skills and develop a more 8gilg woikfoice lo help the organisalion to deliv8r
ils existing and dgveloping programmes.

Tho charily had income for tho year of £404,46312024.' £277.3311.

The charily had unrestricted funds lo ￿[ry forward of £41,846.

The charity had designated funds to carry fonvaTd of £42,800.
Going concern.
After maklng appropriate anquiries. the Trustees hèv6 a reasonable expectation Ihal the charity has adequate
resources to continu8 in operaliona5 existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopl the
going concem basis in preparing Ihe fin3n¢ial slalements. Further details reg8rding th8 adoption of the going
concern basis can be found in the accounling policies.
Fundraising.
The lundraising18nd financial clirnale gener811yl r8mains very challenging- especially for smaller charities, and our
SUCC8ss88 have again been fewer in 2024125.
Reserves policy
The Trustees sim lo m8inl8in free reserves in unrestiicted fund5 al a level which equates to 8pproxim81ely three
months ol non-projecl speclfic expenditure. The Trustees consider that this level will provide suffiaenl funds to
respond to applications for grants and ensure Ihal support and governance costs are covered.
The operating cosls lor Sellle Storias are currently running £15,445 per month before recharges, and £11,500 per
month after salary and overhead recharges to projects.
The trust8es have eslabllshed a reserves policy, being th8 8mour)l ol reserves needed to suslaln the charity, sel as
Equival8nl lo 3 months on non-project expendllure. This is quantified as £42,800 and is currently the orggnisalion's
designated funds. The Cu￿ent reservè 18V81 of £84,646 is in eX￿sS of this, the resèrvé level is therefore sufficient
and does not present any concerns from a going concern perspecllve.

skills gaps amongst the CUTrent Board. Work is ongoing tts recruit new Trustees with fundraising, education 8nd

We have cleated Iwo new Trainee posls, a Trainee Executive Assistant Iio which we have appointed Jess
Gowel and a Train2e PR and Marketlng Assistant (to which we have appointed Mollie Parkerl.
We continu8 to wc>rk wlth wilh 97 volunteers. across roles including illLislration, animation, buslness
tsnsullancy and education. Volunteers contributed between 25-70 hours each. We mainlained productive
partnerships with Lancaster Universily, South Wales University, 8nd Virtual Internships.
