STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT (continued)
Management Arrangements
The Trustees meet half yearly to monitor the aclivili¢s of the charity, including the investtnenl
performance.
The day-to-day adminislralion of the charity is undertaken by independent professional fim)s.
Risk Management
The Trustees continually review the major risks lo which the charity is exposed, in particular those related
to the finances of the charity. During the year some systems and policies were fonnalised and the Iruslees
are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate their exposur¢ to major risk.
The majoi. risk of the charity is its investment poitfolio risk, which is mitigated by biannual meetings with
the Investment Advisers.
OBJECTS AND ACTIVITIES
Objects of the Charity
The Trust was established in 2011 in meinory of Steven Blo¢h who died in 2008. Steven suffered
acquired brain injury following a skiing accident in 1980 and, having had lo abandon his law studies,
eventually graduated with a BA (Hons) in Photography. Through his photography Steven promoted a
positive image of disability and it had long been his desir¢ lo set up a Charitable trust for this purpose.
The establishment, therefore. of The Steven Bloch Image of Disability Charitable Trust is for the benefit
and support of disabled people in England and Wales and to promote understanding of disability through
the arts. writing and joui'nalism.
Objectives for the Year
The obj￿tiveS for the year were:
To ¢onlinue making grants in aceordan¢e with the objects of lh¢ Charity.
To monitor the income of the charity during the continued turbulence in the financial markets.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Aehlev¢ment of Objectives and Public Benefit
The Trustees met twice during the financial year, at the beginning of October 2023 and April 2024, at the
London offi¢es of Knox Cropper. Prof. Lubbock was unable to attend the October 2023 meeting and Mr
Raffles was out of the country and unable to attend the April 2024 meeting.
Cazenove Capital Management had provided detailed analysis of the economi¢ outlook, and their investment
views i'elevant to the peiformance of the Trust. Ella Brown has now taken over responsibility for the Trust
following the retirement of Rob Rydon. It was suggested that Cazenove IEpresentatives should be invited to
the Trust's Spring 2024 meeting and Ella Brown and Tim Gibbons duly allended.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE (continued)
Achi¢v¢ment of Objectives and Publie Benetit (continued)
Peter Ford ha5 been assiduous in carrying out due diligence on the Gov¢mance and 5 Minute Guide Checklists
as required by th¢ Compliance Manual. He reported that the Compliance Manual had been updated in April
2023 and amended in Augu512023 and fresh copies have been i55ued lo all Trustees. He had also ¢arri¢d out
the Annual Review of Financial Controls using the new checklist in February 2024.
101 appeals were received during the 2023124 year, including 19 new charities but excluding the Snowdon
and th¢ Souihei'n Ski Club for the Disabled. John Raffles had, again, carried out due diligence on all new
appeals. 12 appea15 were rejected in Oetobei. 2023 for a variety of reasons and four others in April 2024. The
Trustees took the decision not to donate lo charities who employ specialist fundraiser5.
The Snowdon Trust pul forward seven students for our consideration this year. The Trustees were happy lo
support fiv¢ of them whose studies would in¢lude Pathways into Children's Publishing, Contemporary Art
Pi'a¢lice, English, Fine Art and Specialist Hair and Media Make-up. One student was rejected becoiise the
Trustees were not happy with the eventual direction of occupation and the 7 because studies would be in
Scotland and the Trust only ¢ov¢rs England and Wales.
The usual invitation lo the Snowdon Trust ar￿Ual gathering was received but this year it was decided not to
attend, the reason being that the event would be organised with a different forrnat whioh would not give our
Trust's &ttend¢es the same opportunity to meet and chat informally to some of the students we had supported.
This decision would be reviewed on a year by year basis.
Janet Bloch and Julie Bridgewater met lan Edwards who run5 the Southern Ski Club for the Disabled in early
September 2023 and learned the Club was se¢king help with the costs for volunteers attending their two-day
training ¢ourses as they wanted to ease the burden for young volunteers struggling with the cost of living. The
Trustees agreed to donate £2,000 for this.
Janet Bloch made contact again with lan Edwards befoi'e the April 2024 meeting and found that there was a
further proje¢l where help was n¢ed¢d. The old SSCD receplion/offi¢e hub, which w¢ had funded in 2017,
was leaking and in a very bad slal¢ of repair due to damage ¢aused by a dustcart rev¢rsing into it. AS the
funds were available the Trustees were in favour of covering th¢ full cost of £5,250.
In July 2023 two of the Trustees allended an exhibition of work produced in collaboration between local
artists and SEN schools at the Camden Arts Centre whioh the Trust had support¢d and found it lo be a
fas¢inaling and engaging project. The Trust is now invited to other exhibitions at the venue and Prof.
Lubbock and Jan¢1 Bloch hope to meet shortly with the Trusts and Foundations Manag¢r to explore the
possibility of collaborating on a project with the SEN community involving photography.
Finally> a charity discovered through a personal connection is proving to be an exciting addition lo our list.
Electric Umbrella, which operates in the northlnorthwest London and Home Counties area, airns to create live
music experiences with leaming disabled people, both as performers lll)d audience. They have thr¢¢ units who
give weekly performanees al SEN and regular primary schools. Janel Bloch has attended two events with
El¢¢tric Umbrella and can vouch for the joy they bl'ing to all involved.
Grant Making Policies
Grant applications are reviewed lo ensure that they comply with the requirements of the charity. The
Trustees aulhoT15e payment at their Meetings diiring the year.
Fundraising
The charity do¢s not undertake any fundraising activiti¢s.
