individuals persecuted because ol their religious belbefs, both in Pakistan and *l$evknere, as detem)ined by the INsle&s. All
these objectives al￿￿ the charitsble laws of Engk4nd and Wales and aliw vthh our humanrtwian efforts.
In 2023, we continued lo raise awareness aNJ address the ongoing per5￿ution ol ChrL8ti￿$ an(1 other religious rinorilies
in Pakistan. This persecution is fuelled by discriminatory g￿eMmen{ WI￿se$ and rising hoslilily. vkni¢h foster hatred
and rodicalism iowafd these communil*s.
Oui support primarily ConS￿le￿ ol providing free leg81 and financi￿ a$si¥tance for those persecuted foi Imeir lailh. This
included indiwduals wrongfully ac¢u8ed ol blasphemy and olher charges, those tortured for Iheir Christian beliefs. and
vulnerabl• youn9 wom•n who were victims of kidnèppiThJ, IcKced marriage. or forced ¢onvetsitin. In partner$￿'P wlh
organisalions like CLAAS-Pakislan {CLAAS-PKI and Ihe Edge Fo￿d31￿)n, assisted these individuals in seeking jusli¢¢
through legal ¢hann*is and helped displaced famil*s resetlle, en$￿n9 Ihey had the opprtuThty lor a saler and more dignified
future.
In August 2023. the Gily of Jaran**la descended into chaos follo*ry￿ Uasphemy al￿93t10n$ against Chri$lian brothers.
Raja Amif Saleem and Rocky Saleem, from the predominanlly Chrislian Cinema Basti area.The brothers were ac¢used under
$eclion8 295 8 and C ol Pakistan's penal code lor dlegedly de8ecretiNJ th¢ Quian and making dero9alory remarks oboul th
Prophel Muhammad IPBUHI. Thes¢ aceusations sthly sparked Y￿￿t pr¢rte$ls, kading lo the targellin9 and destruction of
26 churches. including Sl John and Sl Pelef. as %*ll as nvmerovs Chnstian homes. Many Chrislian families were forced lo
flee lor their lives, abandoning all their possessions to escape the es¢alabng wolence.
The unr•st was further fu•lled by 4nnouncemenl$ from hxal mosqueg Condeming Christians, reylting in mobs selliThJ fire lo
Christian homes and place ol worship. Local busine55e$ shut In $didarity Trmth the protests and demgnslfalors blo¢ked
key inlerse¢ligns. Despite efforts by law enIor￿ment and rehgious kaders lo calm len5ions. many protestors demanded
harsh punishments for the accused. As the deslrucbon Sp￿ad. more chwches. Including the Salvatson Army Church and
Shehr¢)on Wala Church, Y￿re vandalized and burned. Iwing Ihe ChristAn ¢ommunty In Jaranwala deva5ts1ed.
During this tragi¢ period, CLAAS-PK, in collaboration wth 11$ partners In Pak¢stan quKkly provided relief lo affeded families.
Initially, our team5 ensured access lo dean drinking ￿￿ter and olher essential supplies. As the crisis continueil. we
extended our efforts over several weeks, distfibuling food k)acWes lo displaced families had lost their homes and
belongings.
For those In urgent need. ￿ provitjed cash aS￿StanCe. aHowThJ them to purthas• necessary items. and
dlstribuled 8ibles lo those seeking spiritual solace dunng this tme ol great suffefwYJ.
Our work ¢uring the Jaranwala cri$1$ exemphfies CWS-U￿S unwavenng commitment to standing valh peTsecuied Christian
Communit￿$. through our partnersh￿p$ wth CLMS-PK and the Edge Foundatron. remwn dedi￿ted to supporting those

pies5ing need lor stronger protection for rdtgious ￿noritieS in Pakistan and for iuslice lo be served in cases where

In 2023 Pakistan remained the 7th most chaUeThJing lor Christians to pra¢b'ce thew farth, aecording to the Open
Doors World Watch List . Sadly. Pakistan also fanked se¢tr)d n the number of ChrisiW$ kn"Iled lor Iheir beliefs and
tnessed several incidents of vI￿enCe targeting churches and Christian propwties.
One of the mo$1 severe incidents occurred in August 2023 during the J8rarMryla riots, 26 churches were gttacked.
vandalized, and bLKned I￿10￿7ng blaspherny accusations. This event, along %%ith many others throughout the year, further
illuslratos the violent 5ttualion ftsr Christians in the ¢owtry. The JaTanw* incl¢ltr￿ displaced numerous Christsan families.

1) Lagal Aid
W¢ provided ciitieal legal aid and praCt￿al SLWOrt lo at least a dozen indh¥¢thals facing perse¢ulion In 2023. These cases
involved Christians ￿ongfullY accuged under di$crimin•lory blasphemy laws. lamilies forced lo flee due 10 violence and
oppr85sion. and victims Subjecled lo tty1ure bttua$e ol Ihew tsith. Addilionaly, suPP￿d youn9 girts V•*r8
abducted, forcibly converted lo Islam, and married aganst their ￿￿1.
Our work Specifically incuded assisting several families whose ￿derage daughters had been kidnapped and lorced Into
Conver￿On and maNiage. Thanks lo the tireless efforts ol Qui team and loc￿ partners. we successfully le￿Ued and reunited
al least loui of these Cttrislian girls wilh Iheir lamilies. These har&won victories highlighl Ihe iMp￿ance of Ouf miss￿n and

21 Practical Support
We lacililaled the reseltlemenl of several lamAies vitinNzed by th'scriminalory laws. helpiry them lo find sale refuge and
restore a sense ol security and slabilty.
We pmvided praclical 8UPPOrt including fin8n¢ial asyslance and •ssento1 8UPF4￿8. 10 the lamilies of those imprisoned for
their Christian failh, easin9 their burden during times ol ¢Jisiress
We offered shelter and care lo girls and young I￿re wctim ol rape. lore￿ marriage, or forced conversion to
Islam, ensurin9 they had a sale space lo re¢over and febuibd Iheir ￿"ve5.

We provided emergency aid packages including e5senbal food Items. ¢lean vrdler. and bedding lo families $eve￿Y affected
by the Jaranwala rw)ts. Many families losl their home$ and possessions in the attacks were left wthovt basic
nece5silies.
Among the recipients were families vtho had lost Iheii primary sources of income due to the (leslruction ol property and
businesses. Additionally, we suppwted ijisplared (Jomesbc YKsrkers. predominantty women, who We￿ unable lo return to
work while living in temporary shelters. The loss of in¢tyne left many famil*s w,thout the means to purchase essential lood
items. including infant milk. Our aik1 was cfuEk41 fft helwng these famil￿eS ￿bU￿d and recovw.
