As at 31 sl December 2022 there were 143 members of the Church Bectorol Roll, ol whom 42 were not resident in Ihe porish. After re-opening following lockdovm ond the closure of church buildings in 2021 the parish and the charity hos bounced back strongly wilh congregational allendance and church activities well amanded. Knonciolly, the chority survivad Ihe closure period well. in part helped by Govemmenl fvnding channelled through locol oulhoritiès to charilies ond community focilities. Contribution lo the life of locol schools: The growing link5 Wth Battle Abbey Sch¢X)I continue to be strengthened. A request from the school ol the beginning of 2022 to be oble to use the church lor their weekly Tuesday ossernb was granted ond thls has proven to be very helpful to the school. other significant use of the church by Battle Abbey School includes The Dean hosting their Fovnders Doy Seryice in the Autumn at St Mary's. Ihe end of year Christmas Carols. and Speech Day in the summer. The Dean worked wlh the heodmo5ter of Bollle Abbey Sch)ol by preparing I I students for the first school confirmation seryice since the 19805. This resulted in 8 students being confirmed at Chichester Cothedrol by the Bishop of Horsham in May 2022.
A St Mary'5 Battle Orgon Scholarship was set up lo enQe a student from the school to undertake organ lessons and attend a day at Chiche51èr Colhedrol in the autumn. to gain experience of Cathedral worship. This will hopefully encoLwage fulure students to WO[* towards on Oxbridge Musical College or Conservolcire 5cholar5hips and conlribute lo the much needed fvture organists in Ihe Church of England. Funding for this was from a donation lor Ihis irwtiattve and Ihe Dean is seeking to find fvrther funding for continuing yeors. The Deon and Chvrch Reader Mrs Alison Hassell have continued to setve as Foundation School Govemors at Battle & Langton Church of Englond Primory Schoor during 2022. Chvrch Corol setvices (Advent Corols ond Nine Lessons ond Corolsl ond Christingle all took place, and were olso very well oltended. Two significont civic sérvices were held in 2022. The first for Ihe Queen's Plotinvm Jubilee which was also on the Feasl ol Pentecosl. Worship was conducted by the Bishop of Lewes who blessed o Rowon Tree in the groveyard os port of Ihe Queen's Conopy initiative. HM Vice Lord Lieutenant of East Svssèx attended olong with Hvw Merriman MP and other civic dignilories and church180d8rs and churches frorn Bat1. The second mojor civic service wos for the lote HM Qveen Elizobeth's death. Protocols were followed occording lo guidance from The Chvrch of Englond ond Operation London Bridge. St Mory's fulfilled ils role os Ihe Civic Parish Chvrch during this lime with the church open for mourning, and a book ol remembronce forsigning by the public. The Dean attended the proclamation in Battle as well os visiling the lale Queen lying In state in the Greot Hall in Westminster on behalf of St Mory's and the porish. The Ctvic seNice for Ihe Queen was w811 attended by the town and HhA Lord Lieutenont of East Sussex along with other civic dignilories and church leaders. There were nine baptisms, seven eonffrmations. four weddings. thirteen funerals and three burials of ashes which took place at st Mary's as well as an Archdeacon's Vlsilalion service for the swearing in of Churchwardens.

The PCC had pledged £28.IXK) to the Diocese of Chlchester. a carefulty considered and budgeled omount based on expected income and avoiloble reserves. Follow receipt of Iwo unrestricted legacies during 2022. the PCC opted to pay IO%.1£10S01 os on odditional payment. A further reslricted legacy wos received in the care of the Dean ond Churchwordens. of which 5%1£29001 was olso mode os an additional payment. mokin9 0 fir)al total of £31,950 for 2022. 4. The PCC received the firsl port of o large legacy from the estole of Tom Long This is reslricled legacy in the core ot the Deon and Churchwordens. 5% was made os on odditionol poymenl lowords the 2022 Porish Contribulion in recognition of th8 regvlor donations Tom Long used to maké towords the Parish Contribution during hts later years. 5. The PCC recefved Iwo further unreslrlcled legocies, £1 O.IXO from Freda Pell and £500 from Potricia Grinstead, which were placed in the designated legacies fund to be used for church projects. 6. St Mary's Church was delighted to host concwts ogoin followng Iwo years of Covid reslrictions, and welcomed both Botme Chorol ond the Whotlington Singers for choral concerts. as well as hosting 8otHe Feslival for o Charity Concert in aid ol Ukraine lunds. 7. St Mory'5 Church wos olso delightad to host a fundraising ev8nl for Ukraine. at whlch £5,384 was given In donations and purchases. 8. The PCC made a tolol of £10,141 of outward giving donotions from income received. This included money from the Ukroine fundroising event. the Christmas Tree Feslival, Remembrance Servlces and the Civlc Setvice for Queen Elizabelh11 among others. 9. St Morys ChCh held o very successful Celebrotion of Aowers weekend for the Queens Platinvm Jubilee, which inclvded a Civic Service, attended by mony in the Parish along with the MP Huw Mefflman and the Vice Lord Lieutenanl Sara stonor.
- St Mory5 Church joined with the all of the country in mouming HM Qveen Elizabelh11 when She possed away in September 2022. The flag wos lowored, the bells muffled and o Civic Semce held with the attendonce of the Lord Lievtenant of E05t Sussex. I l. Th6 mother and toddler group Busy Bees restarted under the new leodership of Mrs Sue Blackman and Miss R05eann8 Blackmon. Places were quickly bookèd up and remoined fvl all year, with requests for more 5e55ions.
- The Bottle bonch of th8 Bexhil Foodbank continued lo operole from the Church Hall and is increasingly busy. This is on ecumenicd venlure ond Is In Ilne with the diocesan encourogement to 'seNe Ihe common good,. The PCC charges for this usa of th8 premises. but gives 0 99% rebote as part of ils endeovours to 'serve the common good..
- The Christmos Tree Festival took ploce over the weekend o1261L27m November. The church wos very busy ond the weekend was o success. Three chorities were sent £775 each from the funds rolsed.
- During 2022 the Porilh Sofeguording Officer role vrfos handed over to Mrs Jan Collin5 in Moy, with MT5 Trocy Dixon stepping down. There were no sofeguarding Issues durlng Ihe yeor ond the PCC hos compled wllh Ils duly to hove 'dve regord, lo the House of Bishops, Sofegvording Policy ond Proctice Guidonce.
- Volunleers- The Church depends on Ihe voluntory services of mony helpers in order to offer svch a wide range of activities.
