- A 5 year business plan in place to ensure that our objectives are achievable.
We are now living in a time where we are seeing the level of criminal activities and general public disorder in our streets and neighbourhood, perpetrated by young people, escalate to epidemic levels. Some of the key contributing factors are drug/alcohol related, unemployment, inadequate affordable community facilities for young people, truancy leading to poor education, mental illness, low socio-economic background, the breakdown of family dynamics, behavioural problems to mention a few. The list is exhaustive. There is also the other perspective of health issues as mentioned previously mental illness but also obesity is on the increase in children/young people due to the more sedentary lifestyle influenced by technology.
We believe everything we are encountering in society at large is primarily due to choices, poor choices which is depicted by our environment and lack of opportunities, whether perceived or actual. These factors fashion ones mindset which translates out in behavioural responses.
Thai Boxing Community Centre strongly believe that this self-destructive mindset/behaviour can be changed. We believe that every young person can, when given the opportunity, in a place of acceptance, with guidance, support and encouragement can aspire and achieve remarkable things. We believe every person counts.
To advance in life and help young people through:
The provision of recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life
Providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals
This Strategic Plan is intended to: -
Set long-term objectives and short-term goals for the organisation.
Provide the Management Team with a longer-term framework within which to plan, at the corporate level, those programmes that contribute to the TBCC’s aims and objectives;
Provide the TBCC committees and sub groups with strategic guidance and longer-term plans within which to organise their activities.
Give the Executive Committee a benchmark against which to monitor progress and performance of programmes.
Day to day management and implementation of the strategic plan is the task of the Management Team.
The core planned activities of the organisation continues whilst the continual building of partnership with new and existing groups are developed.

Having a vision is fundamental in bringing about changes for the better. The vision on its own will achieve very little but is the starting point. The requirements for the vision to become a reality, is to have those who can see the vision, and prepared to take the risk, support the vision to materialise, by committing to provide the resources necessary. Then we have those who are prepared to action the vision by providing their services, time, skills and commitment.
We, at Thai Boxing Community Centre, have been very fortunate and are humbled by the sheer generosity, from the various Funders, who have invested in us throughout the year, and, from those who served at TBCC making this possible.
As we reflect over the year, we see that it has been a very fruitful and busy time. There has been a lot of stretching for us, as a team in many ways. We have been able to deliver many projects seamlessly due to the support given.
CROYDON VOLUNTARY ACTION (CVA): APRIL £150, MAY £190, JULY £210, JULY 220, AND STREET GAMES £315,
OPERATIONS CROYDON £400
Throughout this year we collaborated with Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA) and delivered activities in the community. CVA is an organisation based in Croydon whose role is to help build stronger communities. One way of achieving this is by championing community organisations that nurture and celebrate local strengths. CVA is also the hub in the community to enable community service providers to network with each other and build healthy cohesive relationships and working partnerships.
We have had the opportunity to deliver our services in Central Croydon shopping centre in one of CVA’s hub site. This has given our service more exposure to the community at large allowing more accessibility for the wider community to engage with Thai boxing.
We offered Thai boxing sessions to both children, juniors, and young adults throughout the week.
Working in partnership with CVA, we reached out to refugee young people. It was also identified that refugee parents needed support with integrating in society. The opportunity to support refugee families, was facilitated by incorporating sessions to include them, alongside or separately, with our general attendees, to foster a sense of community and dispel isolation.
The project was a great success with many of the young people continuing to attend our community sessions held at our centre TBCC, when it had finished at the CVA hub. Some have stayed on to date.
Because of the success of the work we were doing with CVA we received further funding from Street Games Operation Croydon. This enables us to continue with the free sessions for Asylum Seekers/Refugees at CVA Hub in Croydon Central.
’ - ’ SPORT ENGLAND £8170 QUEEN S PLATINUM JUBILEE IT S OUR TURN
It's Our Turn project commenced in March to September 2022. Fitness & Exercise Classes were delivered 6 times a week at both sites. It was delivered equally 3 times a week at Catford and Croydon.
This project enabled us to reach out to disadvantaged young people 13 - 17yrs in both our Croydon & Catford Community Centres.
Project lasted 6months and the grant contributed towards Coaches Fees, promotion with photography from a professional photographer as well as for the rent of facilities to split between both branches.
We had just set up our Catford Branch at the time and funding for this project was the first ever support received for Catford.
We would like to thank Sports England who were the first to support us. Something that we greatly cherish.
The project was a success on both sides and enabled us to continue reaching out to young people through various projects thereafter.
GREEN KING £3000 ADULT COMMUNITY PROJECT
Thai Boxing Community Centre was awarded £3000 by Green King to support young Adults 18-25yrs with free Thai boxing sessions 3 times a week. Sessions were held once a week in Croydon & twice a week in Catford for 3 months.

The project was a success. TBCC are extremely grateful for the support with funding and excited to be able to continue in both Croydon & Catford.
MAGIC LOCAL GIVING £500 WOMEN ONLY MUAYTHAI
TBCC was awarded £500 from Local Giving Magic Little Grant. The project engaged women 18yrs + with free Thai boxing sessions once a week in the Catford and surrounding Areas.
Funding contributed to venue hire and paid instructor.
The project, Women Only Muaythai enabled TBCC to provide activities which help to improve mental health, support marginalised groups, and tackle Inequalities whilst enabling participation in physical activity.
TBCC was very grateful to be able to start reaching out to women in our new Catford Branch with the aim of having the same impact in the community as we have done in Croydon over the years.
– AWARD FOR ALL £10,000 CHANGING LIVES THROUGH MUAY THAI
An award of £10,000 was received from Award for All to continue delivering free Thai boxing sessions 5 days a week for 6-17yr old boys & girls. This was for another year starting June 2022.
Once again, the project worked with disadvantaged young people in the Croydon & Surrounding Areas in conjunction with National Lottery Community Fund.
Project was a huge success with over 70 young people attending classes throughout the year.
The funding contributed to rent, sessional workers, media (photography) and equipment.
A big thank you to National Lottery for their much-appreciated continual support.
STREET GAMES £1575 YOUTH CLUB MUAYTHAI
Due to the success of previous Youth Club Muaythai Project, we were given a further £1575 to continue reaching out to young people in the community, with free Thai boxing sessions.

Our Volunteer Celia received an outstanding Leadership Award.
Great work from an outstanding individual who has been a very committed and hardworking person contributing a lot of her time to the work of TBCC. She also demonstrated excellent leadership skills. An award truly deserved. Celia decided to spend her £1000 Jack Petchey Leadership Award win on contribution to purchasing a ring for our community centre in Catford.
One of our Young winners for the Achievement Award, Kyon, spent his £300 Jack Petchey win on purchasing new equipment for the centre as with time the equipment is damaged due to wear and tear.
Also, other spend was on an outing to the cinema and for a meal, spending time having fun together.
January 2023 Jack Petchey £500
TBCC were delighted to have been awarded an AA star Recognition Award from Jack Petchey Foundation. It was a wonderful news to end the year 2022 and to start the year 2023.

ACTIVE COMMUNITIES NETWORK WITH SPORTS ENGLAND £5000
YOUTH CLUB FITNESS
TBCC received funds of £5000 from Sports England Together Fund in partnership with Active Communities Network towards a new project in our Croydon Branch. Project delivered free Fitness and exercise sessions three times a week to young people between the ages of 13-17yrs from lower socio-economic backgrounds impacted by Covid 19.
The project engaged young people from culturally diverse backgrounds, in the areas of Catford, Bellingham and Downham, to participate in sports and physical activity, who normally would not have the financial means to pay to train in commercial gyms. The project was a success leading to more awareness and more young people regularly attending the centre.
TBCC is forever grateful for the support from Sport England & Active Community Network.
There have been some very challenging times, without a doubt, but that made us even more determined to strive and continue to reach out to those who benefit from the service we offer. We have had to face a difficult period of unexpected closure of the premises we were renting and had to find a new location as quick as possible to minimise the disruption of the projects we were delivering. This brought us to a more accessible location in central Croydon which has overall benefitted us as it is now much easier for service users to locate us.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the many people, organisations and funders who have supported and worked alongside us, over the last year helping to support our vision, without them this would not be possible.

TeachSport, also thank you for your partnership.
This year has been an exciting and productive year. We were able to continue our work with known organisations as well as new Funders. We also had support for our second branch for the first time.
Through Sports England we were able to reach out to many young people in both our Croydon and Catford Branch. We were honoured and proud to be a part of the Queen Platinum Jubilee celebrations through Sport England funding. The project was a huge success with an obvious demand leading us to collaborate with Active Community Network, an organisation we worked with for the first time, in the Catford area helping to maintain and support current and new young members in the Catford, Downham and surrounding areas.
With support from Green King funding, it enabled us to reach out to young disadvantaged men in the Catford and surrounding areas. The project delivered to
help support mental health and well- being in men. This was our first time working with Green King who also featured our organisation in their national campaign. We are extremely grateful and appreciate their support.
With support from CVA and Street Games, we were able to work in conjunction and network with other organisations such as Big Local Green, and other organisations supporting Asylum Seekers. Once again organisations we have not partnership with before.
Through various projects we were able to work with Women Only at CVA hub in Croydon Central as well as reach out to Asylum seekers and families offering free Thai boxing sessions. Many of the participants still attend the centre to date.
With Continued support from Jack Petchey, we were able to replace and purchase new equipment to support all our activities as well as take our young members on outings. We also received AA recognition Award from Jack Petchey for how we successfully run their projects. This uplifted team morale and our community centre in general. The support from Jack Petchey cannot be emphasised enough. We are very appreciative of the long-term relationship we have had with them.
We also had continued support for another year from Awards for all project, allowing us to reach out to even more young people in the Croydon & surrounding areas for another year. We have had over 100 young people attend project, a testament to the great work from our team of volunteers and instructors. We would like to say a special thank you to National Lottery for the continued support.
Apart from projects with Street Games and CVA, we have also made more connections in the community with other agencies. We are currently working with Teach Sport who source our work out to schools in the Croydon and surrounding areas reaching out as far as Epsom. We work with around 5 schools teaching young people Muay Thai. We are proud to see our work extend beyond our walls giving those who would never be exposed to this type of sport an opportunity to engage in it. Overall TBCC are very proud of being able to reach out to disadvantaged community members in two different areas. Branching out into the unknown, in a different area is stretching and equally rewarding. We are proud to see the steady growth with new members added in both branches. We are extremely grateful and happy for the support received from funders and hopefully for it to continue with our vision of changing Lives through the sport Thai boxing.
Last, but not least we want to thank our amazing team of volunteers and sessional workers/instructors for their great work and commitment.
Thank you everyone for making the vision happen!
