purpose of chartty and throughout this report a￿ collectively referred to as rts trustees. The
financial statements comply with th8 Charities Act 2011. the Companies Act 2006. the
Memorandum and Articles of Associatson. and Accounting and Reporting by Chartties". Statement
of Recommended Practice applicable to charrties preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial R8POrting Standard ap￿1¢able in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS102) (effèctive 1
January 2015). The trustees have pleasure in pres8nb.ng the chantable company'8 report and
financial statements for the year ended 31 Marth 2024.
1. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The object of the charity is:
To promote and protect the mental health of the wblic, in particular those living in Wa￿ick,
Leamington Spa, KenI￿v0rth and Stratford Upon Avon and the surrounding area through the
provision of counselling and support for peo￿ in need.
Th6 trustees aim to pursue thèse oty'ects through Iow-COSt counselling, offered mainly by
volunteers who are either qualffied to Diploma Level and above or who are in the final years of their
Universitylcollege course. New Hope has a number of qualffied counsellors, many of whom
undertook their placement with the charity and have stayed on as volunteers. No Set fees are
charged for individual coun8elling apart from an assessment fee of £10 {free to those on benefits)
and dients are asked to give a donation when they commence therapy. New Hope also undertakes
couple counselling for which the assessment fee is £20 and a set fee which thi5 year was raised to
£50 per se8sion.
Counselling services are open to anyone ag8d 16 + living or wistered with a GP in South
Warwickshire who feel they may benefit frc4n counselling. The￿ are no restrictions on the grounds
of any of the protected characteristics ie age, disaknlty. gender reassunment, marriage and civil
partnerships, pregnancy arKI rnatemty, rac&. religion or belief, sex. and sexual orientation. After a
robust telephone assessment, the dient is placed on a wa￿.ng list and matched to a suitable
counsellor when one is available. No preference is gNen to or discrimination made against dients.
Currently we request that clients make a donation apprvpriate to what they a￿ able to afford.
Public Benofft
Th8 trustees are committed to improving the organrsation's practrce and ensuring that it delivers
public benefit. as rt fijlfils its obj'ectives through the provision of counselling seNices. The trustees
have had regard to the guidance from the Charity Commission on reporting on Public Benefit. The
service is open to all wishing to a¢￿sS counselling who live in S¢)uth Wa￿licksh1re, including those
of other faiths or none.

ACHIEVEMEMfs AND PERFORMANCE
2.1 Reviow ol the aclivltlés of tho Chartty
In the past year, the chanty has counselled 290 Cl￿nts (previous year 220). Tr majority of
counselling sessions are face to face, although there conts'nue to be dients who prefer online or
telephone counselling as this wovKle8 flexibility wrth regard to w(Kk or caring responsibilities or for
anyone vtho maybe housebourKI. The counselling team is fiexible in its approach in order to
address the indivKlual needs of th8 dients. Our counselling service continues to be in great
demand with the warting list throughout the year being tetween 10 and 14 weeks.
Counselling is provided for many different issues including.. depression, anxiety and stress,
addiction$, trauma and abuse. bereavement, relationship problems and seff-esleem. A number of
cli8nts presenting with complex issues hav8 been unable to access NHS therapy as they do not
meet the criteria which has incr8ased in recent years due to the pressure on local mental hoalth
services. Wien assessed by NHS services they are swJnp08ted to New Hope for counselling.
All dients self-refer and hear about the services of New Hope Counselling through variou8 mean8
wrth the majorrty being signposted by NHS Servi￿8 such as GPS. social Fxescrrbern and
communty mental hearth teams.

All counsellors who volunteer at New Hopa are qualrfied to L8vel 4 Diploma Level and above or
trainees on placement as part of their Unrverstyicollege Course Qualified counsellors are
accredited with one of the counselling bodies that regulate counselling and psychotherapy. All
counsellors, qualtfied and trainee. are required to be a member of a professional tody. New Hope
Counselling is an organisation member of Asso￿ation of Christ￿nS in Counselling (ACC).

We are exoptionally graleful to Orbis Investment's Buchanan Programme team for their extremely
generous donations which has enabled New Hope to invest in a speufic CRM system thereby
improving th8 efficiency of our cfient assessment and data collection.
Throughout the year we also received generous regular donations from Castle Hill Baptist Church
and Saltisford Church for which we are most grateful.

Voluntser Team
We had a dedicated team of 9 qualified and 34 trainee counsellors During the year we held 2
volunteer CPD mornings which V￿re well attended and greauy apprecialed by both volunteers and
staff. In November 2023 we held a session on Working wtth Groups facilttated by trainer and
therapist Deb Saunders which provrded an overvFew of the t0￿c. In March 2024 Sara King, an
expert trainer arKI advocate on neurodiversty. delivered a fascinating session: "Aub'sm and
Understsnding"_ experiences from an autistic perspectwe and how this may affect counselling
SUPF)Ort. At these y￿rkshopS volunteers parti￿larty value the opwtunty to networf( with one
another and the peer support that they receive. As part of the team, we also have Iwo admin
volunteers who provide invaluable support to the management team to ensure the effecttve
delivery of New Hope services.
Other activities and achievements
Trustees fomally signed off the 2-Year Business Plan.
An evening service was set up on a Monday and Wednesday at WanNick Offi￿ in response
to the number of wtential clients who were seektng fa￿ to fa￿ counselling out of hours
Leamington Setvice developed to deliver counsellirNJ on a Thursday and Friday. with a
counselling coordinator appointed to line manage a team of both qualified and trainee
ounsellors.
During the year time was invested into the implementstion of Tacklit CRM system to increase
the efficiency of dient assessmerrts and record keeping %*thich the Assistant Manager
continues to Fead on.
Work was undertaken by the management team to revMv and streamline re¢Tuitirtrent
processes for both paid staff and trainee placements. Following safer recnjrtment guidelines,
the strudure in place is more ro￿$t, induding shortlists'ng and a number of scenario based
questions at interview Feedback from trainees in particular has been very positive who
compare New Hope most favourabty against other placement providers they have applied to.
We Gontinue to rewew and update polictes and wocedures to indude any legislative
changes.
A joint strategy session for trustees and staff was held in October 2023 facilitated by Rob
Allison of Factor Netwothng. The session fed into the development of the business plan and
importanuy provided an Op￿rtUnrtY for Trustees and staff to come together which many felt
was the a particulady beneficial aspect of the evening.
The manager of New Hope Counselling continues to sit on the VCSE Mental Hea￿h Allian
Partnership Board. The Allian￿ is a forum providing a voice to innuence mental health
services across Coventry and Warwickshire and in particular, engagement with the statutory
sector.
The manager ts a founding member of the Counselling Networking group made up of
counselling charities working across Coventy Warwckshire. The group provides an
opportuntty to share good pradice, discuss thallenges faced by counselling agencies and is
looking at joint training for staff and volunteers going forward.
The volunteer team at New Hope Counselling were awarded Highly Commended under the
Health & Wellbeing Award category at the annual CAVA Volunteer Awards for their
enormous commitment to the charity and the dients that we supwt. The Assistant Manager

and Iwo of our two admin volunteers attended thè awards evening held at The Old Shire Hall
in Wa￿ick in October 2023 and received the award on behalf of New Hope.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
3.1 Results
Details of the financial results for the financial year are given in the Statement of Financial
Activities on page 9, the Balan￿ Sheet on page 10 and the Accompanying Notes on page 11.
The charity has the following main sources of funds:
Voluntary donations made by clients re￿Iving counselling
Grants
Church and ottler donations by supporters of New Hope Counselling
Fundraising
Th8 main expenditure of the charity is for the provision of day-to•ay management and
administration of counsellors and clients and of premises to carry out counselling se￿ICe8.
During the year 8nding 318t March 2023, income totalled £71,321 (22123.. £81,374>. Expenditure
for the year was £93,173 (22123: £78.393). So overall there was a total net decrease in
unrestricted and restricted funds of £21,852 (22123". increase of £2.981) during the financial year.
Details of any related party transactions are as set out in note 11 to the accounts.
3.2 Golng Concem:
Having reviewed the level of funds available together with the future projected cash-flow, the
trustees have reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resource8 to Continue its
activities for the foreseeable future. Accordingly, they continue to adopt the going concem basis in
preparing the financial statements.
As the yèar progressed clients and counsellors continued to retum to face to fa￿ counselling.
Although the amount of online therapy decreased it is still available as an option and is often
convenient for those who are disab￿, housetrt)u)d, carers, those Irving in rural areas, those in
full-time employment.
3.3 Reserves Pollcy
The Charity seeks to hold reserves equal to three to six months of expenditure of behveen £23,OC(I
and £48,(￿0. The free reseprfes as at 31st March 2024 vme £27.021 which equate to just over 3
months reserves. Vthilst overall reserves remain heafthy, during the year New Hope Counselling
has received a greater proportion of restncted fiJrKling. The trustees recognise the ongoing need to
encourage more donations and also to seek other sources of support and furKling to ensure the
continuing development of the service.

STRUCTURE. GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
5.1 Constitutlon of the Charlty and Status
New Hope Christian Counselling is an incorporated chanty limrted by guarantae, having no share
capital and is govemed by rts Artides of Associatson incorwrated on 2110112011 as am8nded by
special resolution dated 2410312011 and registered at compan￿ House on 0110412011. T
company number is 07501815. The ¢harty was ￿lStered with ttN8 Charity Commission on 4th April
2011 with the number 1141104. The charty is exempt from ¢orporation tax under part 10 of the
Income tax Ad 2(YJ7. The chanty also uses the name New Hope Counselling.
6.2 Trustees (Directors)..
The trustees (who are a180 directors for the wrpose of Company Law), who held Offi￿ during the
yèar and to the dat• of this report are listed on page 6, Reference and Administrattve Infomiation.
Trustees are appointed and elected in accordance with the Articles of Association through a vote of
members at the AGM and after an apkyopriate amendment to the Articles of Associ&on are now
able to stand for rn0￿ than ￿0, three year temis. Al potential trustees are only nominated to stand
for election following a skills analysis and suitable refèrences.
5.3 Trustee meetlngs and procedures
All n6w trustees are given infom7ation relating to responsibilities of trustees and orientation to
the work of the Charity. All trustees are encouraged to read the guidan￿ on public benefrt issued
by the Charities Commission and this is taken into account making decisions aljout the
charily's activities and in the day to day running of the ¢ounselling servio.
The trustees nonnally schedule four meetings each year and are joined for most of the meetings
by the manager. In addition. trustees meet for an extra-ordinary meeting to discuss strategy and
staffing. The trustees have a programme to ensure that policies aTrJ w0￿dureS are regularfy
updated and reviewed. Legal advice is souglrt when necessary.

procedure that rf the￿ is a potential conflid of interest on any matter, the trustee with the potential
conflict of interest is asked to leave the room and take no part in th8 d8bate or decision.
5.4 Organlsatlon of the Charlty
Th8 operations of the chanty are conducted in accordance with the policies and strategy approved
by the trustee8. There are no standing 6ul>commrttees and expert a(fvice is sought as required.
The trustees are responsible for th8 governance of the chaiity and delegate the day-to4ay
operation to the manager. The chanty currently has a part-time paid Staff team consisting of a
manager, an assistant manager. WapHick Coordinator & administrator, Kenilworth coordinator,
Stratford coordinator, Leamington Coordinator and a furKlraiser, as well as volunteer and trainee
¢ounsellors and admin volunteers.
5.5 Risk Management
The trustees review risk and seek to ensure all major risks to which the charity might be exposed
are identrfied, in particular those relating to the operations and finances of the charity. The trustees
a￿ satisfied that there are systems in pla￿ to mtbgate the exposure to major risks.
