Trustees' Report for the Year Ended 30 April 2024

The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the period ended 30 April 2024. The trustees, who are also directors for the purpose of company law, and who served during the period and up to the date of this report, are set out below.

Structure, Governance, and Management

Governing Documents: The charity remains registered and incorporated in the UK under charity number 1141001 and company registration number 07225165. It continues to operate as a private company limited by guarantee with no share capital, incorporated on 15th April 2010. The charity is governed by its memorandum and articles of association.

Organisation: The board consists of four trustees. The charity holds an Annual General Meeting each year in addition to other necessary meetings throughout the period.

The Trustees who have served during the period:

Appointment and Retirement of Trustees: The appointment and removal of trustees remain vested in the existing trustees. This is carried out by at least a two-thirds majority resolution, with formal documentation prepared and signed accordingly.

Risk Management

The trustees have reviewed the major strategic, business, and operational risks faced by the charity. Systems have been established to ensure that regular reports are produced, enabling necessary action to mitigate risks where possible.

Objectives, Aims, and Activities

Key Developments in 2023-2024

1. Partnership with Local Charity in Glasgow

During the past year, Croydon Islamic Academy worked towards establishing a place of worship in Scotland. However, due to planning issues, the project faced significant challenges, including unexpected business rates charges imposed on the property.

While we were not able to win the business rates exemption case, the authorities later adjusted their calculations and refunded a portion of the charges. This experience reinforced the importance of ensuring full compliance with planning regulations before proceeding with such projects.

2. Expansion of West Norwood Mosque

We are pleased to report that Croydon Islamic Academy has successfully expanded the West Norwood Mosque to accommodate the growing needs of the local community.

You consider that the company is exempt from an audit for the year ended 30 April 2024.
