applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffective 1 January 20191 The Trust ig a
Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The Trust has taken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for charities applying FRS 102 Update
Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows,
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulation5 2008
only to the extent required to provide a true and fair view. This departure has involved following the
Statement of Recommenoled Practice for charitiès applying FRS 102 rather than the version of the
Statement of Recommended Pra¢li¢e which is referred to in the Regulations but which has since been
withdrawn.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the Trust.
Monetary amounts in these financial slalements 2re roundèd to the nearest £.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, modified to include
the revaluation of investment properties. The principal accounting policies adopted are set out
herewith.
Crltlcal accountlng Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertalnty
In the application of the Trust's accounting policies, the Iru51ees are required to make judgements.
estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilitie5 that are not readily
apparent from other sources. The eslimales and associated assumptions are based on historical
experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these
estimates.
The estimates and Ltnderlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revlsions to accounting
estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only
that period. or in the period of the revision and future perlods where the revision affects both current
and future periods.
Income
Income is recognised when the Trust is legally enlilled to it after any performance condition5 have
been met, the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable that income will be received.
Cash donations are recognised on receipl. Other donations are recogni5ed once the Trust has been
notified of the donation. unlgss perfoTm8nce conditions require deferral of the amount.
Legacies are recognised on receipt or otherwise if the Trust has been notified of an impending
distribution, the amount is known, and receipt is expeclecl. If the amount is not known, the legacy is
treated as a contingent asset.
Expenditure
ExpendilL¢re is recognised once there is a legal or conslruclive obligation lo transfer economic benefit
to a third party, il is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement, and the
amount of the obligation Can be measured reliably.

Expendituro
Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs
and shared costs, including support oosls involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs
allribulable to a single activity are allocated directly lo that activity. Shared costs which contribute lo
more than one activity and suppoil costs which are not allributable to a single activity are apporlioned
be￿eern those activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. Central staff costs are
allo¢aled on the basis of lime spent, and depreciation charges are allocated on the portion of the
asset's use.
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation
committing the Trust lo that expenditure, It is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be
required in selllement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expendilure is
accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost
related lo the category. Where costs cannot b8 directly allributed to particular headings they have been
alloGaled to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Grants offered subject lo conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a
commitment but nol accrued as expenditure.
Investment property
investment properly, which is property held to earn rentals andlor for capital appreciation, is initially
recognised at cost, which includes the purchase cost and any directly attributable expenditure.
Subsequently it is measured at fair value at the reporting end date. The surplus or defioil on ievalualion
is recognised in profil or loss.
Charltable funds
Unreslricled funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of their
charitable objectives.
Designated funds comprise funds which have been set aside al the discretion of the Iruslees for
specific purposes. The purposes and uses of the designated funds are sel out in the notes lo the
financial statements.
Reslricled funds are subject to specific conditions by donors as to how they m8y be used. The
purposes and uses of the restricted funds are sel out in the notes to the financial st8temenls.
Golng concern
Al the lime of approving the financial slalements, the Iruslees have a reasonable expèctation that the
Foundation has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future.
Thus the Iruslees Continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial
