Happy Endings Rescue (Charity No: 1140628)

Trustees Report 2022 – 2023

This year was all about building relaonships and raising awareness!

HER connues to be a chosen charity of Pets At Home, with donaons of food and pet supplies generously being given on a regular basis via our local store.

A new fundraising partnership has been formed this year with Hardman Solicitors. The charity received donaons from a number of fundraising acvies that were held by the team a Hardmans. The charity is always grateful and excited to be selected as the chosen charity for such fundraising.

Facebook donaons hit a new high of just over £3,000, showing the power of social media.

The support received over Christmas was again overwhelming this year. Lots of food and toy donaons, which of course the animals loved. The Christmas Meal Appeal for the Donkeys also raised great awareness, receiving over £2k in donaons and 40 bales of hay from our local farmer.

Rescues & Rehoming

The number of animals being brought in and rehomed is not geng any smaller. This year alone another 316 animals entered the care of the charity. However, with the great effort of the team and help from our supporters the charity managed to rehome 344 animals to Adopters and sele an addional 20 animals in with Foster Carers.

Rescuing animals is the heart of what the charity does and this year saw another large Equine rescue. In support with the RSPCA a large herd of mini Shetlands were rescued from horrendous condions. Many of these Shetlands were dead on site, many were in foal and all were starved. Once recovered, a campaign was launched to rehome all the surviving Shetlands and their foals. This was a great success and all found new homes.

Annual General Meeting Minutes

Date: Thursday 4th May 2023

Present: Chris Johns, Terry Kemp, Kim Broderick, Lynne Beavan, Hannah Johns, Liz Patto , Claire Shearer

Next meeting: TBC – Proposed October 2023

1. Announcements

Lynne Beavan expressed the desire to step down as a Trustee. Decision is still open and discussion was had that Lynne’s input to the Charity is important, even though Lynne is unable to be more hands on.

2. Discussion

RESIDENT ANIMALS – There is a need to rehome as many of the longer term residents as possible. Unfortunately Sponsorship of these animals has declined and the average annual costs of keeping these residents is in the region of £54k per annum (including Staff Costs, Rent, Food etc). With over 50 residents on site a rehoming drive is necessary. This should include fostering if possible. To be reviewed in 6 months .

REHOMING – The Adopters attitudes towards rehoming have changed since lockdown. Many animals up for adoption have behavioural issues and a lot of training and medical help is need to re-establish happy, healthy pets. Sadly experienced Adopters are very few and not everyone wants or can take on troubled pets. Suggestion to promote Fostering by way of offering training and medical support in the first instance. This will help ease the increase in resident animals and reassure future Adopters they are supported. To be reviewed in 6 months

STAFFING – Since HER has been residing at Butterstones Pet Boarding , the HER staffs working attitudes have changed and job roles have become blurred. Responsibilities need to be reestablished or alternatively Staff could TUPPEE to Butterstones and a new boarding contract agreed. To be reviewed in 3 months .

CHARITY TRUST STATUS – Looking at the future of the Charity it may be a good time to revisit the Trust Status of the Charity. Research is required into future options. To be presented at next AGM.

3. Roundtable

SUGGESTION – Setting up a Pet Supplies Bank. The charity gets lots of donated pet supplies (inc pet food) and not all of it utilised.

SUGGESTION – Possibility of offering Neutering Vouchers to maximise the use of the Vet Room.
