Message from The Chair

I am pleased to present the Accounts and Annual Report of the East African Muslim Cultural Group (EAMCG) for the year ending 31 December 2024. I continue to be proud of the charity and its volunteers' work. We have continued to make significant contributions to our community over the last 12 months. These have included, but are not limited to, the continued use of technology (e.g., Zoom) to engage and educate our community on a wide range of topics, including financial management, family planning, marriage, and professional development. We also restarted our weekend classes, and attendance improved. The EAMCG also continued renovating the building at Derby Road, focusing mainly on further roof repairs, toilet repairs and adding a new carpet.

We thank our members, sponsors, fundraisers, and volunteers whose enthusiasm, commitment, creativity, energy, and hard work have been instrumental in helping the charity achieve its goal of supporting its members through various projects and initiatives.

I want to pay tribute to all the Trustees and volunteers who continue to support the Charity in achieving its operational and strategic objectives. Their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm continue to inspire us all. Through their work, these individuals have played a crucial role in enabling the Charity to continue making a real difference in the lives of its members and the wider community.

Hassan Kigenyi, Chairman

Trustees’ Annual Report for the Year Ended 31 December 2024

EAMC was born out of the need to help individuals within the community improve their lives by increasing and improving access to information and services provided by a matrix of local organisations and statutory agencies.

Our primary focus is to promote Islamic and civil values, improve the quality of life of the East African Muslim communities, and assist other socially excluded Africans living in the United Kingdom and other individuals within the local communities. We work by providing socially excluded individuals with training and access to information through seminars, workshops, work placements and any other activities that have been proven to bring people together to address issues that either do or could negatively impact their lives.

Risk management

The Trustees and management team are aware of their responsibilities for risk management and for significant strategic, business, and operational risks under review. A detailed risk register is in place, which is reviewed regularly by both the trustees and the managers at their annual review of the register during the year. Over the last 12 months, we have improved our risk management practices and oversight. This has included installing new CCTV camera systems and better supervision during significant events. The Trustees and senior management continue reviewing risk management procedures to improve them.

Equal opportunities and other policies

As responsible employers, the Trustees have approved several policies relating to equal opportunities, conflict of interest, Health and Safety, Children and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy, etc. These policies are reviewed annually.

Our objectives

To improve the lives of our community through education, awareness and spiritual support.

Our services

We engage the community in all our activities, including health promotion, cultural awareness, training, community and women's affairs, youth activities, and youth forums.

With the assistance of a group of highly skilled volunteers, EAMCG offers the following services. The list below is not exhaustive of the services we provide:

Funding

EAMCG remains a members-financed Charity; to this point, all finances have come from the members and the immediate community. The members provide all the funds the Charity needs to operate. Direct member contributions for the year came to £32,986 compared to £18,905 last year. All income received for the year was via members’ contributions and individual donations.

Statement of Trustees’ responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charity law. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.
