Grayshott Concerts (the Charity} was formed In 2CQ4 and registered with the Charlty Commisslon on
l February 2011. The Charty's governing document is its Constitution. adopted on 11 December
2010 and updated In June 2021 to increase the maximum number of Trustees.
TheTrustees are elected and ￿-elerted annual￿ atthe AGM bythe Members and stand on the
grounds that they are commltted to the aims and objectives of the Charity and have specific
expertlse to bring to the Charity to help it ach5Lwe its objectives.
Durln8 the course of the year. the membershlp level reached 176 members12022:1971.
A5 from 2 January 2019 the Pfodurtlon of concerts has been managed through Grayshott Concerts
Produrtlon Llmlted, a non-profft making company controlled by two of the Charlty's trustees. A
Declarnlon of Trust document exlsts under whlth we operate.

The object6ves of Grayshott Concerts are:

A5 unpald, voluntary classltal muslc promoters. Grayshott Concerts stage between four and slx
events each year at their local church and. occa5knnal￿, other suitable venues.
The performances Include symphonles. oratorios, other choral works and operatlc evenln8S.
Performers include choirs. orchestras. soloists, conduttors, actors and composers.
The Charlty aims to educate and entertain audiences. many of whom are local people: however, the
rePUta￿On of the organisafjon also brlngs audiences to Grayshott from a much wlder catthment
area. Grayshott Concerts presents world-class perforniances - on your d¢￿tep for local people,
enabling them to enjoy top-class Classical music and other perfomiances without the need to travel
significant distances. Events sell out in advance. From tlme to tlme. the Trustees make donatlon5 to
local good causes and stage certain events Specifical￿ to ralse fvnds for charrtable causes. The
Charity has a mailin8 list of over 1.4W indNiduals and families who receive re8ular free newsletters.
Each year. Grayshott Concerts aims to attr4rt over 2(M) Members ('Friends ofGray5hott Concerts'l
who pay annual subscriptions as donatbn5 to the Charity.
Publlc Benefft
In planning actrvities for the year, the Trustees keep in mind the Charlty Commission's guidance on
public beneflt. They are especially proud that every erfent SITr￿ the first in 21XM has attracted a mix
of Members and the 8eneral public.

The concert year began for ￿ on 2 Febnjary. when presented perhaps countrfs most In
demand youn8 sololst- the cellist Sheku Kanneh-mason. He thrIl￿d the audlence wlth two works by
Ernest Bloch that most of those present would never have pre¥louslv ￿lId-sd￿IornO.' Rhopsodle
Hébmlque and FrThn Jewish Lile,. Pro>tr. Shelomo Is a 2￿ century masterpSece that captures the
mlsery of war through the universal themes of passk>n. sufferin8 and hope. In l*hter ¥ein. the
concert also Included excerpts from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night s O￿orn and his wonderful
Symphony no.4- the ftollon.
Our next concert was on 31 March. wtth a performance of works chosen ty our Mana8ln8 Dlrecior,
Andy CrOC￿r, as beln8 partkularly Important to hlm. These were El8arfs Introductlon ondAlleqrofvr
Strinos, the Mendelssohn vlolln concerto and Mozart's 8lorfous flnal symphory {no.41 TheJuplterJ.
27 May wItne￿d an all mO￿rt programme, the hl8hll8ht of whlch was a fine performance of hls
flnal unflnlshed masterp*ce, the Requlem. fvAlrlan Butterfield tonducted the Pegasus Cholr. London
Mozart Players and ft>ur exceptlonal sololsts In a deeply movlng perfornian￿. Also included In the
programme were Mozart's Adogio ond Fuoue and hls Vesperoe Solennes de Conftssore.
On 21 July we promoted somethln8 3 Ilttle outslde our nomlal pro8fdmmln& by stsglng A Night ot
the Opero. We welcomed the ￿tUrn of LorKlon Festfval Opern. who In one half of the programme
presented a selectlon of popular operotlc encores. and In the other. a staged ￿r$SOn ot the stsnd￿Ut
arla5 and ensembles of Verfl's Lo frovioto. The audience TKarn)ed to the tiagic story of the Il￿f￿ted
love between Aifredo and the consumptlve Vk>letta.
The trumw came to the fore on 5 October. when Matllda Lloyd wowed the audlence wlth her
phenomenal technique on this most excitln8 of Instruments. Culmlnatin8 In a fabulous perfomiance
of Haydn's famous Trumm Concerto the programme also included works by Mercadante. Rosslni
and Mozart's SYMph(￿V no.40 in G Min(Y, one of his three last great symphonies.

Greensleeves. Elgar's Serenodefvrstrinos and 8rltten's precociou5 Simple Symphony. based on
themes he had wrltten as a 12 year old child.
As wall as the SSX publlc concerts descrlbed above, we also presented our annual Frlend< Evenl
where we thank those wonderful supporters whose subscrlptlons make such a posltlve dIffe￿nCe to
our flnances. enabl1￿& us to bri￿& artists of the hl8hest quallty to our small Hampshlre vllla8e. As
everybody knows, even wlth full houses, tkket Income does not be8ln to approach the Cost of
puttln8 on a concert, so our 8fdtltude to the members of our Fflends organi5atlon1s huge. Indeed
fvndamentsl to our very emlstence. The music at thls yearfs Frfends. Evening hlghli8hted Vlvaldl'5 Four
Seosons. featur1￿ the LoNlon Mozart pla￿5. YOU￿ PerfOrn￿r In Resklence. Lela Zhu. who also
played that 8reat fa￿Urtte, Vau8han Williarn< The lar* Ascendlnq. The pro8ramme was completed
by Samuel Barber's evocafjve and hauntln8AdoolofrStrlngs and M02arYs Elne Klelne Nochtmusik.
Well. almost completed. as we rnu5tn't forget the virtuoso performance on the typewriter by the
Vlcar of St. Luke's, Jeremy Haswell in Leroy Anderson's comic gem The Typewrlterl
In addltion to our CO￿ concert serfes. GraV￿tt Concerts also wovldes financial support to
Grayshott ICE) Prfmary School to spend on muslcal actlvltles of the School's cholce. We feel that In
supportln8 the School's muskal artfvitles, * are 1*11￿ the seeds for I￿t5 whlch will benefft In the
future from an appfeclatlon of d•sslcal musk, as well as encoura8lng the d￿￿lopment of the
concert audlences of tomorrow. In 2023 our SuP￿rt used to flnance and facilitate a 'Strfn8s Day,
al the School. TTAf+ members of The London Mozart Pltyerf #rlng sectlon. tO8ether wlth a wdrlety of
stringed Instruments. worked with the puplls in a day long series of workshops. 5ebastlan Combertl,

organisallon agalnst the results of Unfo￿$een clrcumstsn￿s such as the enftyced cancellation of an
event.

## **Trustees' responsibilities statement** 

The Trustees are responsible for preparing this Annual Trustees' Report and Financial Statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). 

In preparing these Financial Statements, the Trustees are required to: 

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; 

- observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; 

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; 

- state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; 

- prepare the financial statements on an ongoing concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in business. 

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity, and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

As from 2 January 2019 the costs of produclng concerts a￿ init7alty carrfed by a ￿lated company.
Grayshott Concert5 Pmductfjon Limited IGCPLI. the share capltal of which 15 held by two of the
trustees of Grayshott Concerts (the charltyl.
The company Involces the charity with the cost of producln8 the concerts and GCPL Is due to recelve
a Corporation Tax C￿dit of £29,84612022: £22,140 recerved) by way of a claim for Orchestra Tax
Relief that in turn redu￿5 the net cost to the charty of produdng concerts.
The worklng capltal requlrements of GCPL are supported by a loan from Grayshott Concerts to GCPL,
which was £45.893 as at 310ecember 202312022: £32.8371.
