Grayshott Concerts Trustee< Report for the year ended 31 December 2022 (continued) Public Benefit In planning activities for the year, the Trustees keep in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. They are especially proud that every event Since the first in 2004 has attrdrted a mix of members and the general public. Achievements and Perfonnance The Review of our year's activrties (January- December 2022) was the first since 2019 not to have been coloured bythe effects of the Covid-19 pandemic We have had four core values ever since Grayshott Concerts wa5 established some nineteen years ago. These are: l. To know our market- and be locally focussed 2. To know what our audiences want to hear- well known classic5 3. To attract the finest performers- qualtty attrarts audiences 4. To keep everyone informed- good marketing and ongoing contart with the people who sUPPOrt us. We send Friends interesting monthly Newsletters, for instance The year began for u5 on 19 February with a perfomiance of Me55i0h, perfomied by the Pegasus Choir and London Mozart Players, conducted by Adrian 8utterfteld. This, of course. is a great piece of core repertoire. but as our audiences have developed a confidence in what we offer them, we intend in future to put more modern and challenging WO￿ before them, but not to an extent that deters audiences from maint3ining our record of every concert that we present being sold out. March 25 wttnessed a ra￿ performance of aara Schum3nn'5 Piano Concerto played by15ata Kanneh- Ma50n, a member of that astonishingly talented musical family. This proved 3 revelation and demonstrated how talented the young composer was, her compositions unjustifiably overshadowed by those of her husband. The programme was completed by Rossini's overture to L'ltaliono in AlgerA and Beethoven's Symphony no.8. May wrtnessed star local violinist Shoshanah Sievers play the famous Bruch Violin COn￿rt0 with the LMP. The programme opened wwth Mozart's overture to Don Giovonni and ended with Mendelssohn's Scotttsh Symphony. In July we presented a programme tilled The Romantic Legacy of RenuI550n￿ Polyphony performed by the fabulously talented professional choir Tenebrae. This featured Renaissance music bv composer5 including Allegri and Victoria and their Romantic period succe55ors Brdhm5, Bruckner and Reger and demonstrated the musffical thread and connections between the two periods. On 8 October we presented a programme of music by our Patron. Sir Karl Jenkin5. The first half featured a number of short pieces for choir (our own Choir in Residence- Excelsi51, and vocal and rnstrumental soloists, SUPFK)rted by the LMP. The culmination of the evening was the oratorio The Healer- o Cuntataforst. Luke, a work commissioned by Gray5hott Concerts from Sir Karl in 2016 to mark the organisation's tenth anniversary. The soloists from those original pethrmance5 came together again to remind the audience of what a magical WO￿ we had raused to be created.

This year wo went even further, with a concert to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the ft)unding of the School. This was a performance of two masterpieces. written with children in mind - Prokofiev's Peter t7nd the Womand Saint-Saen5'5 Carnivolof the Animals. We repeated the performance for our annual Friendg Evening. for which we were delighted to secure the service5 of that most eminent actor, SiFnon Callow. As everybody knows, even with a full house in nomal circumstances, ticket income comes nowhere near the cost of puthng on a concert, 50 our gratitude to the member5 of our Friends or8ani5ation is huge, indeed fundamental to our very existen￿. As well as the Friends of the or8anisation we are indebted to the generosty of our sponsors, helpers, donors and fundlfig bodies for what they do in enabling us to present World Clt755 performDnces on your doorstep. In particular we would like to thank the Charlotte Bonham-carter Foundation and the Helen Hamlyn Trust for their generoits grants. Financlal Review and Reserve5 Pollcy The charity uses all it5 income for the promotlon and staging of "wortdO to reflert the increased level of cost of 5tsging events, in order to guard against the results of unfr)reseen circumstance5 such 35 the enforced cance113ri0n of an event.
