## Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

1. The Charity’s activities in 2021 were exclusively to make grants to Butoke, a non-governmental organisation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (“DRC”).

2. Butoke operates in the Western Kasai region of the DRC. The Western Kasai continues to suffer instability following the fighting between militias which took place there in 2018 and rumbled on in following years.

3. Butoke therefore continues to operate in difficult conditions, which this year have again been made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. Against this backdrop the main achievements of the Charity this year have been to part fund the construction of a new maternity unit/clinic in the village of Tshimbundu and to part fund a project to assist the victims of rape – the “Justice Project”.

5. Prior to the maternity unit/clinic being constructed, there were no healthcare facilities in Tshimbundu at all. The facility opened in August 2021 and by the end of November 53 children had been born there. It had also treated around 200 people for a wide variety of illnesses and injuries.

6. The Justice Project has worked with a number of impoverished rape victims. It has provided them with the necessary legal and medical assistance, and has also assisted them with clothing, food and, where necessary, relocation.
