Trustees are appointed by members of the Association (comprising parents, guardians, carers of pupils and school staff) at the Annual General Meeting. Trustees can be co-opted at any time. ## **Principal Purpose** The Ashmead Primary School PTA (Ashmead PTA) is an accessible community connected with Ashmead School, South East London, dedicated to: - **Developing** effective relationships between staff, parents, and others associated with the school. - **Enriching** the school experience through funding and organising activities, facilities, and equipment that enhance our children’s education and school life. ## **Objectives and Activities** - **Education & Support** To advance the education of pupils by providing facilities and equipment not normally provided by the local authority. - **Community Building** To foster a strong, inclusive community through events that bring together staff, parents, and local residents. - **Fundraising** To generate funds specifically for pupil well-being, curriculum enrichment, and large-scale school improvements. 4 Registered Charity No. 1140023 All funds raised are used to provide facilities or activities identified by the school's Senior Leadership Team as being of direct benefit to the children and their education. ## **Achievements and Performance (Chair’s Summary)** It is with immense pride and gratitude that I look back on the 2024/25 academic year for the Ashmead PTA. Each year, we execute a diverse calendar of fundraising events; however, 2024/25 was defined not just by the numbers on a spreadsheet, but by the incredible spirit of our parents, staff, and local community who came together to make Ashmead an even more vibrant place for our children. This year, we set our sights higher than ever before. Alongside our beloved annual traditions, we channeled our collective energy into an extraordinary milestone: sponsoring a brand-new, state-of-the-art playground. In tandem with this build, we successfully introduced vibrant new event formats designed to bring our parents and children closer together. I am thrilled to report that we exceeded our expectations on both fronts. **The Big Vision: Project Playground & Our Record-Breaking Auction** With the school’s 50th Anniversary approaching in 2025, we launched our ‘Project Playground’ vision with a fundraising goal of £50,000. This new playground has become much more than just a place to play; it is now the beating heart of school life outside the classroom. By replacing scattered, older structures with a unified, modern design, the project has created an inclusive space that inspires children of all year groups to explore together. This transformation represents one of the largest infrastructure renovations at Ashmead since the construction of the new school building on Lewisham Way, standing as a lasting legacy of what our community can achieve. The centerpiece of this effort was our **Auction of Promises Evening** . It was a staggering success, raising over £13,000 in a single night. This truly humbling display of generosity from those who donated put us well on our way to creating a world-class environment for our kids. **Going the Extra Mile: The Sponsored Fun Run** Our Sponsored Fun Run was a highlight of the summer term, bringing energy and healthy competition to the Alex Yee Ladywell Arena. It was more than a local success; we were proud to be featured in the national **Parentkind newsletter** , showcasing Ashmead’s community spirit to a wider audience. This event was a major contributor to our record-breaking year. Crucially, the individual sponsorship gifted by our donors represented the largest contribution toward our overall funding goal. **Beloved Traditions** Our Winter and Summer Fairs remain the heartbeat of our calendar, raising nearly £10,000 combined. From the ‘Love Books & Bakes’ sale and the Choir Performance at the Stonehouse to the School & Parents’ Disco, these events helped to ensure that every family felt included in the Ashmead journey. **Investing in Our Children** With the support of our Ashmead community, we were able to award a total of **£54,035** to the school this year. This funding is already making a tangible difference, providing: - Subsidised school trips to ensure every child can participate. - Inspiring author visits and new library resources to spark a love for literacy. ● Classroom plants and air filters to create healthier learning spaces. - Commemorative "Leavers T-Shirts" for our Year 6 students. 5 Registered Charity No. 1140023 **A Green and Healthy Future** We have stayed true to our commitment to sustainability. From the student-led Air Filter project to our Playground Planting group, we are teaching our children to be good stewards of their own environment. ## **Financial Review** The PTA generates most of its income from fundraising events and typically maintains minimal overheads. As this income stream is inherently uncertain, the PTA avoids committing to expenses that cannot be covered by existing reserves. It is our policy to retain reserves of at least £3,000 to ensure sufficient liquidity to run our key fundraising events each year. ## 2024/25 Financial Performance: - The PTA achieved record-breaking fundraising revenue since its inception, driven by the ambitious ‘Project Playground’ initiative. - The income-to-expenditure ratio remained stable, ensuring the PTA closed another positive financial year on solid footing. ## **Future Outlook** Looking ahead, the 2025/26 academic year will mark a shift in our financial focus. In the absence of a flagship capital campaign on the scale of ‘Project Playground,’ we expect our revenues to normalise back toward 2023/24 levels. While we project a slight increase in raw funding, our operational costs are likely to rise at a steeper rate due to the impact of inflation, particularly fuel and energy costs affecting venue hire and logistics. This 'new normal' comes at a time of ongoing strain on families due to the rising cost of living. We are acutely aware that the ability to contribute financially is balanced against tightening household budgets. Similarly, as work commitments intensify, the 'gift of time' from volunteers has become a rarer commodity. As we move into our 50th Anniversary year, our goal is to remain a source of joy and support for the school without placing undue burden on our community. We will continue to seek out creative, low-cost ways to bring us together, ensuring the spirit of Ashmead remains vibrant and inclusive. ## **Volunteers** The Ashmead PTA is run entirely by volunteers recruited from parents, carers, and staff. Many thanks to everyone who has given their time this year to contribute to our thriving community. The PTA does not have any paid employees. ## **How we support the school** ## **Financial support** Ashmead PTA remains dedicated to providing a range of benefits, including ongoing support for school trips, classroom resources, IT equipment, and enhancements to outdoor areas. To meet our targets this year, in addition to our Summer and Winter Fairs, the Auction Evening and Sponsored Fun Run were pivotal in allowing us to deliver the new playground. 6 Registered Charity No. 1140023 ## **Publicity and building our community** We continue to organise activities that bring parents, carers, and staff together, celebrating the diversity within our school. Both the Trustees and the Headteacher view this community-building as being of equal importance to fundraising. Ashmead PTA promotes its work via the Headteacher’s weekly newsletter, social media, and Class WhatsApp groups. Furthermore, Trustees engage with parents at coffee mornings and committee meetings, maintaining an ethos that is inclusive, welcoming, and particularly focused on engaging families that may be harder to reach. ## **Declaration** The trustees confirm that to the best of their knowledge, there is no information relevant to the examination of which the independent examiner is unaware. The trustees also confirm that they have taken all the necessary steps to ensure that they themselves are aware of all relevant information and that this information has been communicated to the independent examiner. I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: - the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or - the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or - the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
