The charity is tons:itutÈd as a trust with a Lrust deed of 15, December 2010 as the 8overnin8
document.
Trustee5 meet approximately Quarterly to agree broad 5trate8y, review finances and reserves
policies, and decide on any grants to be made. An additional on-line meetin8 was held with the
Bishop and a clergy leader from Gambella In july 2011. The situation and needs in Eihiopia and In
particular the Gambella area were di5CU55ed.
All trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no Femuneration or other benefits.
Trustees are appointed for a five year terrn ol office by resolution of the existing trustees. New
tTU5tees are Sourced through the personal netwoiks of the trustees and patron. they then meei one
ol ihe existing tru5tee5 to assess suitability and appropriate checks are carried out. after whiih Ihey
ttend a board meeting at which they are appointed, If all trustee5 and the candidaies agree this is
appropriate.

To advance the Christian reli8ion in the An81ican Episcopal Area ol the Horn of Africa (the 'Area"I, by
providing support to the An81ic3n Church in Ethiopia and the Horn ol Africa.

At various times throughout 2022, grant request5 were received from St. Matthew's church in Addis
Ababa as follows..
Grants totalling £17,730 to St. Matthew's hève been used for the general runninE of the church,
£770 supporting the Breakfast Club and £2,iJYJ lor the Community Library. As in 2021, thls support
ha5 been important as Ethiopia recovers from the civil unrest when rnany overseas personnel were
advised to leave Ethiopia and mana8es the effetts of high inflation rates.

In June two 8r3nts were issued to the Mothers Union IMUI foi work in ihe Gambella region. These
8rant5 were on-going support foT the Literècy 1£5,5781 and Ea8le IE9,3961 projects thai were
supported in 2021. The grants were made available from a restricted fund and frorn 8eneral funds.

8ishops and Organisatioii. Ii)put io Ihis discussion has been requested from the new Diocese of
Gaiiibella. Also. Ilie expectations of FACE seem to have shifted and the nature of the Grani requests
we are receiving are Increa51n8ly diverse.
We h8ve also Inainiained our communication wirh the Friends of the Ari8licèn Province of Alexandria
IFAPAI and the Jerusalem and Middle East Church A5SOClation IJMECAI th3t helps e3ch charity 10
coordinate rheir work efficiently whilst mainraining their specific identily.
An essential element of the activities of the Friends of the Anglican Church in Ethiopia is prayer
Support for the church in the country and this has been enhanced by periodic reports from St
M3tthew's in Addis Ababa and the church in Gambella and Specific prayer requests. Informatio
received is shared with our donors both on the web site and through newsletters.
Financial Review:
At 31" December 2022 we held cash at the bank of £43.0551£46939 in 20211. Within thi5 figure is
n amount of £14.010 which is separaiÈly restricted to suppori the work of 51 Maithew's Church in
Addis Ababa. The trustees have 3doptÈd a policy ro retain all funds for this purpose in reservÈs
unle5$ grant requesis. within the charitable objectives of FACE, are made by Sl Matthew's which the
trustees consider it appropriate to agree to fund.
Apart from the above, our policy on re5erve5 15 to hold at le35t £10,000 of unrestricted funds ai anv
time to en3ble the Charity to respond to emergency request5 lor grants lo the Anglican Churih in
f thiopia and the Horn of Africa, eg.. food emergencie5.
In normal tirne5, an upper limit on unrestricted reserves has been set at £20,OCK) at the end o13ny
rinancial year. Apart from funds held for St Matthew's Church, we have not deemed it prudent io
