It does feel that we have truly begun to emerge from two years of pandemic. That period has had a profound effect upon the parish in many ways: socially, liturgically, pastorally and economically. But things are beginning to get back to a regular routine again. We shall however need to reflect upon what the pandemic has meant and what its continuing significance is and to do so in the light of the gospel.
Despite everything during the year the Church has been busy. I draw your attention to some of the highlights.
There was a really splendid and hopefully helpful service which was a reflection on the pandemic itself. Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Hope were the themes and along with some splendid music and singing we were able liturgically to begin to try to reflect on the last few years. My only regret was that though there was a decent number of people at the church it would have been great to have a lot more.
The Lent course was one in which the participants were encouraged to narrate and reflect upon their own experiences of the pandemic and to share them with others. With then also reflected more on what it has meant and continues to mean from a Christian point of view. Thank you to everybody who participated.
The Christmas services continued as normal with a carol service that returned to its full strength, numerically and musically. Attendance at it and the Christmas services was strong.
The whole of the Holy week and Easter services were conducted fully and Easter day was very well attended with over 130 people.
It was a great joy to be able to visit Walsingham on our annual pilgrimage. I would very much encourage anybody who hasn’t been to try it at least once. You may be surprised at what happens!
We were joined on our annual Advent retreat at St Katherine’s Foundation by our neighbours. Fr Tom, the Rector of St Giles in the Fields brought some of his flock with him and we made a happy band of pilgrims.
At the beating heart of the parish is the rhythm of the Sunday by Sunday Eucharist’s. Worship that is enhanced by the choral scholars, ably led by our director of music, Mr Sam Bardsley and we are grateful to him for all of his contributions to Church life.
I think we can be hopeful. There are plans for some future events. Walsingham is already booked. We look forward to the street party to celebrate the Jubilee. More book clubs, bible study, and social events. But
we all need to take seriously our own part in building up the body of Christ in this Church. Can I encourage you to bring a friend one Sunday. It may just be the thing they need.

Independent examiner's report to the PCC of St George's, Bloomsbury This report on the accounts of the St George's, Bloomsbury for the year ended 31st December 2021, which are set out on the annexed pages, is in respect of an examination carried out under Regulation 3(3) of the Church Accounting Regulations 1997 to 2005 ('the Regulation,) and s.43 of the Charities Act 1993 ('the Act,). Respective responsibilities of the PCC and the examiner As members of the PCC you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. you consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 3(3) and section 43(2) of the Act do not apply. It is my responsibility to issue this report on those accounts in accordance with the terms of Regulation 25. Basis of this report My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 43(7)(b) of the Act and to be found in the Church guidance, 2005 edition, issued by the Finance Division of the Archbishops, Council. That examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the PCC and a comparison of the accounts with those records. It also includes considering any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. Independent examiner's statement In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the requirements of the Act and the Regulations have not been met; or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
