Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | During 2024 we continued our campaign against the Cumbria Coalmine which resulted in a high court judgement that quashed the planning permission. As at the end of 2024 there was still a possibility of the mining company submitting new information and the planning permission being redetermined. If the position at end 2024 stands through 2025 the Charity’s work will have prevented the emission of approximately 220 million tonnes of greenhouse gases and set a positive precedent to prevent harm caused by fossil fuel extraction. This will help beneficiaries in South Lakeland and Cumbria who live in flood prone areas. It has also served to educate the local and national public about alternatives to fossil fuel extraction and use, and the need for a just transition to a green economy that protects the physical and natural environment. |
Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:
| Achievements against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | We were unable to close the charity during 2024 because our legal team advised us that the new incorporated SLACC-tt charity would not have legal standing in the Judicial Review or subsequent actions of the mining company. |
|---|---|---|
| Performance of fundraising activities against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | Fundraising activities met our financial commitments and enabled us to achieve our objectives. |
| Investment performance againstobjectives |
