Ensurlng dellvery.
The Charity's a9ieed Vision, Mission and Strategic Aim guided its obj6cIIv8s for the year. 2024125 saw the
Charity deliver IhÈ first year of its five-year strategy lo 2029. This focused on strengthening the Charity's impact
and resilience in face of on-going C081-of-Living and Cosl-of Care crises. The importance of this aim was
heightened by increased demand arTrd complexity of need amongst older p8ople1ocally. There was 8180 on-
going uncertainty and risk in the Charily's oporaling Ènvironment. The Charity delivered several objectives
based on its agreed Delivery Plans i.e.. People.. Infrastructure,. Incom& G&neralion. It taok a n8cessarily fiexible
approach In delwering these ané tnainlained vigilantr in relation to risk management. Risk was treated 88 a live
issue 1.8., il was under continual moniloring. 8valualion and mitigation. Performance and delivery were reviewed
in the Directorate team on a weekly basi5. During the year the Charity'8 Oireclorate and Manag&ment Teams
co-designed and ag￿e￿ Key Perfomiance IndiGalor5. These were used to help drive operational planning and
delivery.

who may have ￿MpleX physical need5 8nd who are isolated or at risk of Social isolation. It targets those who
are making heavier than expected demands on primary care Services for non-clinical support, reducing demand
on the lime of GPS, other h8allh professionals and out of hours SeN1r￿S. for social and non-¢lini¢al matters.
2024125 saw continuad rising demand and ¢omplexity of need. A totsl of 1166 clients We￿ supported. and
Ihere were 16,700 epi50de5 of care. Satisfaction was 98.S¢A. 96% of the clients felt they had been listened to
and treated as an individual. 81% fell they had been fully involv8d in d8Ci8ions about Iheir car8 and support.

The Cancer Support Service was first estsblished in April 2015. 115UPPQrts older people expeiiencing cancer
and provides tsilored piaclical and emotional support. It helps them lo remain independent in their own hames
afler diagnosis andlor whilst gtsing through their Can￿rIOumey. It also enables Ih8m lo comple18 their cancer
Irealmenl. Macmillan'5 changing priorities and funding approach meant the Charity was required to undertake a
managed ¢losure Of the service- whi151 a150 working with Macmi118n to develop a new cancer information hub
support offer Idetsiled b8lowl. 2024125 was therefore thè SeN1￿,$ final year. and il closed on 31)1 December
2024. Prior lo Ihi5. 120 clients were supported and Ih6r8 were 1440 episodes of ¢are. Satisfaction wa5 100%.

Macmlllan Cancèr Informatlon Hub.
The Charity's Suc￿sSful record of partnering with Macmillan 18d to it being asked in November 2024 to lake
OV8r the hAacmillan Cancer Information Hub project al short noti￿. M¢bilisalion included th& Charity
collaborating with ils VCSE partners lo ¢o-lo¢ate the seNi¢e within the town's Haslings Heart Community
Information Hub. 1121$0 built a significant library of r88ourc88 COV8ring everything from living with cancer to how
to acc8ss fin8ncial 8UPPOrt. Delivery is via a drop in facilily which commenced in April 2025 and runs Ihrae days
a week.
Hèalthy Llvlng Clubs.
Thè Charity provided on￿Oing informal support and advice lo Healthy Living Clubs in Hampden Park, Rye,
Polegale, Sidley and Ha51iTrg5, and to a Walking Football club. These had previou81y been set up by the
Charity to provide a warm and welcoming setting for people 2g&d 50+ where they can develop friendships and
be more physically active. The airn is lo improve health among51 those older people most al risk of leading
unhealthy lifestyles andloi experiencing greatest health inequality. Over lime the Charity trained-up volunteers
from the group'5 membership so that each club is now largely run by their members. There was support to
individual club leaders regarding their club's d8V8lopment and, where required. individual Clubs, members were
supported lo re-6ngage with these. 140 tnernbers were provided with inlomal contact and advice, and there
were 4500 support sessions. Salisfa¢lion was lOQ%.
Take Home and Settle.
The Take Home and SÈtllÈ service enables $8fe and lime1y discharge where olheFwise clients who are keen
and fil to ￿tUrn home would be d&lay8d. Clients are supported to ensur& they are properly discharged from
hospital e.g. with appropiiale care plans in pla￿. The seNi¢e also enables much n88ded hospital b￿S lo be
freed up. The Charity dÈliv&red seven days a weÈk support 2nd worked with a lolal of 1,998 clients in 2024125,
with 1,998 episodes of care. Satisfaction was 100QA. Clien15 reported maintained or improved out¢omes
including llldependen￿ and conlrol147%1, acce5S to other servi¢e$145%1. heallh139%1. daily 8Ctivities139%1
and so￿al ielalion5hips128%1. Health partner's satisfaction was also 100%.
Bed Moving and Deep Cleanlng.
Working in partnership wilh the NHS. Adult Social Care, and others to support old8r peopl8 returning home
fram hospita1. the Charity continued its flexible and largeled delivery of bed moving and deep cleaning support,
this support responds to referra15 Whe￿ clients are unabl& lo b& discharged from hospital du8 lo the slate of
their house. A lolal ol 134 clients were support8d in 2024125 and Ih8r8 were 134 episodes of care. Client
salisfaclion was 100% and 100% of cli8nls reported maintained or improved Independen￿ and control.
House clearallce.
The Charity'5 house dearan¢e servlce supports older p80ple, their famity, carers and others. It creates space,
disposes of unwanted items, recycles unwanted or unneeded piece5, and assists with down-sizing li.e., by
preparing a property for sale or C￿all￿g properties including garages and shedsl.11 operate$ from the Charity'8
Newhaven and Easlbourne Horne storesldepots.
As well as providing praclicAI and logislieal support, evidence deady demonslrales that donating items in
support of the Charily'5 work helps people feel beller. This can, for Èxample, help alleviate a sen8e of Ioss,
stress or discomfort when moving home or disposing of items with 8enliMental valu& following bere8vemenl.
Additional benefils of the service are that this ciealed opportunities for volunleerino. employment and skills
training for locAI p80ple. 2,543 clienlslhome collections were undertaken11545 in Newhaven and 998 in
Easlbournel, equating to 2,688 support s&ssions. Satisfaction was 99.7PA. Clients reported maintained or
improved outcomes including independence and conlrol198.5%1, daily a¢liwties198%1 and heallh178%1.

Governance.
Founded in 1948 and a regisler8d charity sinc* 1973, the Charity Incorporated as a char￿able Company
Limited by Gu8rantee in April 2010. It retsined the le981 name Age Conc6rn East Sussex, and its oparating
natne is Agg LJK East Sussex. The Boar(I consists 01 up to ten trusleeslcompany directors who are individual
members and not rapresenlab'ves fmm Olher organisations.
The Charity's Chairwas recruited in December 2022 followng a Board-led open rectuitment campaign and took
up office in March 2023. Trustees are recruited to the Charity for their specialist knowledge andlor Ih8ir interest
in irnproving later life. In accordance with 115 desire lo be led by older peop￿. the Charity specifies that at least
75% (rounded to the nearest whole number) of the lolal number ttf Tru5tee5 must be aged over fifty. The
Trustees are the only full members 1.8., with voting rights 81 GpnEral Meetings. ThÈre are named Board
Champions for Safeguarding and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion IEDII.
New tfustees receive an induction frorn the Chair and Chief Execulwe and have a comprehensive briefing
regarding Charity Ctsmmission guidance on Ihe re5ponsibililies of trustees. There is an agreed Trustee Conlli¢t
of Interest and Loyalty policy and a Codg of Conduct. The8& were refreshed during the year. Trusle8s are
briefed annually as to the Charity Commission'5 general guidance on public benefit and complete an annual
regi818r of interests.
Kgy Governance tasks for the year included the dev8lopm&nt of the Charity's rel8tion8hip with (the national
charity) Age UK and the network of c115 independent local alder people's chaiilies each with a 5irnilar brand
and netwark agrÉÈmÈntwilh Age UK as the national Gharity. Further engagernent with national Age UK officers
and Chi8f Executives and truste8s from olh8r local Age UKS took place regarding a Shared Strategy and the
lerrns of a new Nelwork Agreement. The Charity's Board held an Extraordinary General Meeting in Novemb&r
2024 to consider these in greater detail. In ils December 2024 Genèral M&eling trustees cansidered the
Charity's Chief ExecutiV8's recommendation to formalty sign up to th888 this was approved.
The Charity's Vision slates that'Eas1 Sussex is a great place lo grow olderf. 2024125 saw the first year of the
B02rd's five-year strategy to 2029. The slrateaic aim is"We will strengthen our impact and resiliÈntÈ.' The
Board 88t th8 Ch81ity'8 OV8r811 aims and objectives. 11 meets in General Meetings a minimum of six times a
year. In November 2024 an Extraordinary General Meeting wa5 held to give additional attention to the Charity's
financial Suslainabilily and to conskler Senior managamenl proposal$ in Support of this. Tw$tee$ agreed these.
Management is delegated lo the Chief Ex8culive, and Dir8clorat8 and managem8nt teams. Each year the Chair
of the 8oaid conducts an Annu81 Appraisal of the Charity's Chief Executive. The Appraisal report is signed by
Ihe Chair of Trustees and Chief E)reculive and 1$ countersigned by the Vi¢e-Chair.
There is a Finance and Remuneration Commillee whose responsibilities include IhÈ drafting of budge￿ and
scrutiny of financial performance and control. Refreshed Terms of R&feienc8 w8re approved by the Board in
2024. The Committee played a key role in Tnonitoring and mitigating the on-going finall￿al risks the Cherily
fa￿d during the year. Ils activity includ&d suuliny of the Charity's cashflow position. bank accoun15. income
generation strategy deliv8ry, commissioning opportunities and grant applications. Committee memb8r8 led
Financial and Risk Management development sessions forwider Iruslee5 in the Board's February 2025 Away

notable developments induded the 8oard salting out ils strategic decision-making approach regarding financial

Financial review
During 2024125 total incoming resources increased by 12.96% when compared lo the prevlous year. The
chaiity is reporting an increase in income from ils charitable activiti88 in th& year by 3.13%132.72% in 20241
and an incr8as8 in incorne from trading activities of 66.19%.
The charity continues to receive voluntsry income by way of donations andlegac￿3 forwhich we are extremely
grateful. These increased by 4.34% from the previous year.

The Charity's registered address 15 54 Cliffe High Street, Lewes, a building which also accommodates the
Charity's shop which raises fijnds through the sale of donated goods. There are four further shop5 (Battle,
Haslings, Bexhill, and Brighlonl and Iwo furniture stores (Newhaven and Easlboumel. The Chanly's retail
continued its strong trading performano, despite the c05t-of-living crisis and the g8n8rally chall&nging

Care Crises ar8 on-going, they continue to be al risk of experiencing loneliness, and the SeNi￿S they rely on
are increasingFy finanaally challengéd. The Charity's external environment remains uncertain, fin8ncially
challenging and risky. Significant uph8aval within ils slalulory partners is likely because of Devolution, Local
Government Reform 8nd changes lo Su5sex'5 Integrated Care Board.
The Chaiity's Curffjnt Soual Prescribing contract with NHS Sussex end8 In March 2026. The specifica￿an for a
competitive lÈnder for this service will be published in July 2025 2nd a decision iegarding the successful
provider is expected mid-Noverllber 2025. The Charity has b88n preparing for this commissioning for some
month8. 1118 known that this tendprwill ￿ highly compelilive, involving providers from the VCSE and
Independent setlors, and from NHS providers. The Charity also had relal8d contrac15 with local Primary Care
Networks. and it will seek to further develop these.
