Loss of financial sustainability due io Tnarket volatility affrfling the investment base of the charity and reducing th¢ ability to fund Ihe desired l¢vel of grant making progrprnme. This is particularly significant when considering the current volatility in finan¢io1 mark¢is worldwide, together with changing demands for funding from the Foundation as a result of incr¢asing ¢conomi¢ and so¢ial hardship CUTrenily affecting much of the world. To mitigate against rhis risk as far as is ￿1￿le. given ihar siock market movements are beyond the control of the Trustees. they utilise specialist charity investhient mana8ers who manage the investment portfolio on a day io day basis on the Foundation's behalf. The Foundation ￿￿erIts from a low cost-ba%e. given that it has no staff costs and minimal and predictable ov¢rh¢ads. Moreover, its grani making programme is digcreiionary which means the Trustee5 are in a strong FX)Sition io direct grani making ro where it is needed most in a lime of crisis.
