Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

In carrying out/planning our activities this year the trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and reviewed these at our trustee meetings. The focus of our activities continues to be the support of sufferers and their families whom have been affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy that have approached us regardless of age, gender, background, faith or personal circumstances We have achieved this by providing emotional support to those who suffer or are affected by SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) by providing free, friendly confidential support (at times utilising the first-hand experience of our trustees) and advice over the telephone or in person. Providing equipment for everyday life, learning aids, and recreational activities benefiting sufferers of SMA by improving their Quality of life, furtherance of their education and assisting their adaptation to everyday life

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

We continued to experience a pleasing return to our fundraising revenue, despite the the remanants of the covid19 pandemic and the the emergence of the cost of living crisis. A valuable contribution has been made by our volunteers. Without their continued support and commitment not to mention the many hours spent assisting us.

At the present time we continue assess our grant requests on a case by case basis.

Section D Achievements and performance

We continue to receive requests from SMA sufferers and their families for Summary of the main help and support, with referrals from people whom we’ve helped also achievements of the charity proving to be valuable. during the year Despite the heavily reduced number of events we held this year, again our fundraising events have proved to be a viable avenue to generate income, As with previous years a substantial proportion of our funds continue to be generated from our annual Ball (our single most successful event) this is also one of our main avenues in which we raise our profile with support from individuals, companies and even the venue who donated time, services and products for the event, helping to ensure its success.

This year we had little growth of individuals taking part in fundraising/sponsorship events e.g. organised runs. And we arranged a charity bike ride from cologne to Harlow, which unfortunately due to the pandemic we had to postpone again due to participants not being able to commit to take part, we plan to complete this in summer 2024,

Virgin money giving service which was a main avenue of income and enabled us to claim gift aid too. Ceased operating in 2021 which challenged us in finding a suitable alternative provider, we chose Total Money giving as it best aligned with our operations, we continue to review on a 6 monthly Bassi performance going forwards.

Our Trading activity (wristbands, car stickers, Hoodies etc) has seen an reduction in revenue this year and will continue to review on a quarterly basis. Clothing orders continue to be placed on an as required basis, to reduce stock holding. We have seen voluntary donations decrease in this past year which again can be attributed to the cost of living crisis. We remain hopeful for the year ahead.
