Objectives and activities
The objective of the Jewish Home Network is to provide educational and social activities according to the Jewish faith and tradition. Importantly, it also reaches out to old and young alike in times of personal crisis. We provide counselling and support to help many in our community and also outside of our community to overcome their challenges. Much effort is invested particularly into reaching out to teens, individuals and families including regular visits to the elderly. The JHN supports people suffering from hardships whilst at the same time advancing Jewish culture, history and heritage through educational and social programs.
Achievements and performance
The JHN encourages acts of chessed, or kindness, through helping and assisting many people on their Jewish journey. We organize baby naming services and help families prepare for a child’s Upsher, a boys first hair cut at three years old . We teach Bar and Bat Mitzvah boys and girls for their special day. This is done in several ways, including through one on one learning and different projects of chessed that they are encouraged to undertake in the community. We also reach out to community members to be part of this program.
Many of our educational and social programs are directed towards the non-affiliated, where we provide them with strong feelings of Jewish pride and involvement, often ofor the first time in their lives. The Mitzvah tank, which visits communities in and around London, is an opportunity for individuals and families to come aboard and do a Mitzvah, attend a Lunch ‘n’ Learn discussion and engage in Jewish culture. The children join the Mitzvah tank regularly, visiting hospitals and uplifting patients’ spirits. Many senior citizens are visited as part of this program.
The JHN provides a home and a listening ear to teens at risk, giving them a safe space and a calm environment where they can find themselves and rebuild their lives. Our centre organises pre-festival programs, whether it is shofar blowing, Lulav and Etrog on Sukkot or Matzah on Pesach. Our services enhance their spirituality and empower them in their own journeys.
The JHN is a helping hand to many in time of need especially during times of family crises. We provide family help, especially when it involves the youth. Many are invited to join us for Shabbat and festival meals and are even invited to stay over to be able to experience a Jewish way of life first hand. We visit hospitals and vulnerable people regularly to offer support and strength. We also provide support for families dealing with illness and in need of care.
The JHN is a home away from home and creates programs and experiences that help many Jewish people of all ages and levels of observance grow and find purpose in their lives.
Trustees Responsibilities in Relation to the Financial Statements

In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
-
Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
-
Observe the methods and the principles of the charities SORP;
-
Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
-
Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity and enable them to ascertain that the financial statement comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
