Minister’s Report
The year was the fourth full year of my ministry here, and I remain deeply grateful to be working here, and for us to be so very much at home here as a family.
This year was a mixed year as we endured another very hard winter and then emerged slowly from the pandemic.
We re-opened the church building as the summer commenced, and people came back slowly over time as they felt comfortable, with many still not returned to meeting together by the end of August.
We used internet based activities a lot this year, and learnt a lot as we did so. We gained some things online, but lost others.
Lorraine Jones was made redundant by us due to financial constraints, but she is now employed by the circuit going forward to work as a Local Pastor in Haxby and Wigginton, continuing to focus on families and children, and engaging with schools and outside organisations.
Among those that we said goodbye to as they moved away, or sadly died, we bade the Spains farewell as Stephen took up his first post as a minister in Oxford.
Sarah Tiffany continues as our church administrator for 10 hours per week, and she has been invaluable.
Our worshipping patterns have changed, and we now only meet for one service at 10am on a Sunday, with our “traditional” worship on Wednesdays at 10am. We have had to think carefully about how best to provide practical support and musical accompaniment for the services that we have.
I am grateful to all who pitch in to help our life be as good as it is, even if it still does and perhaps always will feel like the load could be shared out more. The world around us has changed a lot these past few years, as have we as individuals, congregation and community. Working out afresh who we are, why we are here and what is most important in our following of Jesus is going to take time. The future holds significant challenges, but I am confident that we have the imagination, will and resources to meet those and exceed them.
