THE BOXING CLUB AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Kingston Amateur Boxing Club aims to promote fitness, health and well being to people of all ages throughout its community. We teach amateur boxing to all members. This helps members gain self respect, confidence and respect for others. The club operates fourteen sessions per week. The club has open membership and is welcoming to people of all ages, cultures, ethnic backgrounds and also people from all social backgrounds. The charity’s objective is to encourage interaction between all. It holds many boxing exhibitions and participates in many local events such as fun days etc with an aim to boost its membership, promote its facilities with an objective to increase the well being of peoples day to day lives.
The members get the chance to broadcast the skills they have acquired to the local community and many others. They also get to show these skills on four annual boxing shows that we hold. These events are thoroughly enjoyed by all members and spectators from the general public. We promote additional training opportunities for our members to participate in first aid courses, boxing coaching courses, welfare of children courses and child protection courses. All these opportunities provide great benefit to the local community and many others. We offer a service which is wholly charitable run by professional volunteers.
Day to day expenditure and decisions are decided by the trustees and committee, which has a constitution in place also. The aim and objective of the boxing club is also to promote a friendly community spirit in a deprived area of Hull.
THE YEAR: ITS OBJECTIVES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
During the year ended 31[st] May 2021 the main ways the centre sought to achieve its objective were as follows:
To participate in more national boxing competitions. This was not possible due to COVID 19 and all national competitions being postponed or cancelled.
Increase the training opportunities in order to recruit new coaches/volunteers. Again COVID 19 meant no courses with England Boxing were offered and lockdown meant no volunteers came forward at the club.
Increase its membership numbers. Covid 19 saw the year in lockdown, so membership decreased due to the inconsistency of sessions being held.
The trustees have compiled with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission in December 2008
PLANS FOR THE NEW YEAR
The key strategies for the centre are to re increase the membership in older sessions, younger sessions, and to reintroduce public events. We also aim to maintain and maximise health and safety due to covid 19. This risk assessment and health and safety policy will continue to be revised in order to maintain a safe environment when open..
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The financial reserves of the club are adequate for the financial responsibilities ahead and the increase in membership and sessions will strengthen this.
The trustees have set a policy of retaining reserves sufficient for the foreseeable needs of the centre. The running costs during the year are adequately financed by subscriptions and grants received due to Covid 19 lockdowns.
RISK MANAGEMENT
All major insurable risks are subject to normal sporting facilities and public liability insurance. Contractual risks are reviewed before being entered into. An annual review of areas of risk is undertaken by the trustees in conjunction with volunteers.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES
Charity law requires the trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the profit and loss of the charity for that period. In preparing these accounts the trustees are required to:
Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently
Make adjustments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent
Prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Acts. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The trustees confirm that the accounts comply with current statutory requirements and those of the charity’s trust deed.
