assets and li8blliliès of St John's Church, Downshir8 Hlll. Hampstead, and which accounts for all of its
income and experKliture. The church itself is a Proprietary Chapel in th& Church of England, part of
the Diocese of London. and therefore is accountable for its own assets and liabllitios.

Al the year end, St. John's had 8￿Jm salariod staff members. Apart from this, the rna￿rity of St. John's
ministry is carrled out by volunteers. whether working within th6 church ill leaching, youth work,
evangelism elc., or invofved in caring for the missionaries we support elsewhere. The tn￿leeS would
like to thank all fho8e who volunteer their services to help run and adminlster St. John's. Many peoplè
give a 8ubstanlial amount of time to ensure the church runs gffiaenty.

Ministy and mission at SJDH conllnued lo ffourish in the ye8r ended 31 Augusl 2025. The stsff team
remained unchanged for most of tho year time, consisting of the Senior Minister. Associate Mintsler
for Families, Associate Ministgr for Women, Assislanl Minister, Church Administrator (part time),
Finarbce Administrator (part timel al￿ Caretaker (part lime). In eaty 2025 our Church Administrator
Kerry Jones announ(%d her intention to Tell￿ on 31 August 2025. The church advertised for and
recrulted a new Church Administrator, Loredana Coste8. who began work at th8 beginning of July
2025 In order to ensure a smoolh handover as Kery retired.. At th6 samo time, our Assistant Ministsr
Aaron Ku left his role at th8 gnd of August. having completed three yoars as planned when the post
was created
Chlldren's and youth work continued to thrive wth a reguL3r pattern of Sunday momiro groups for
0-14s. Frlday evgning clubs for prrmary school children and 11-188, and a monlhty Saturday evenlng
Bible study for okler teens. Other events through the year Included outreach and dlscipleship events
for women and for men, a weekly pargnvcarers and toddlers group "Mini Mischief, a continuing
English language class ministry wlh intemationals, a weekend away attended by over 100 people al
which the speaker was one of our mission partners John Paul ATanzulla and an Easter holiday club
for prfmary school children.
Wlth the full support of th8 Trustees of SJDH. the Associate Minlster for FamIl￿s. David Rue, trjok a
pgrtC¥J of sabbatfcal study leavè from Jur>e to August 2025, for the puryjose of rest and study.
Support for Gosp•l Work In the UK and Overseas
St John's has continued in prayer and financial support for tts mission partners, Increasing the number
supported to 12 during this year. These include missionarfes in Ireland, Czech Republic. Italy,
Senegal. SwitrerL4nd. Manchester {UK), Johannesburg and London (UKI. as well as the organ&%alions
London City Mission, Oparation Mobilisatron. Oak Hill Theok¥Jlcal College and Open Dwrs.

Spiritual growth can be both numorical and in tem)s of individual mabjrity. The latter is hard to
m6asuro 8lthough ft is encouraging to see so many church memb8TS giving sacrificially of Ihelr time
and money lo serve the church and wider world.
Our av8rage Sunday attendanc8 remained stable at up lo 130 adults in the morning, and betsyeen 20
and 40 in the gveniro. Our Japanese monthiy service has continueil with an attondance of
approximately 10 adults and 3 chifdren
The Sunday children's clubs continued around 65 childr8n aged 0-14 regulaty invofvod. We
rpgukqrly saw 40 under 18s attending our Frfday and Saturday evening youth dub acdvibes, %Mth a
toLIl gf around 65 attending at least oncg through the year, many much mora frequently.
During the year ending 31 August 2025, there were 4 baptisms and 5 confim)alions at a servi
attended by the Bishop of Ebbsffleet. During the year we also ran Hope Explored. Christianity
Expk)red and Discipleship Explored which were att8rxJgd by around 8 peop￿ enquiring into Christian
faith for th8 first Ime.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Prlnclpal fundlng sources
The principal Sour￿ of funding o)ntinues to be personal gwing by the congregation, alongside the tax
that is recoverable on this glving through the HMRC Grft Aid arrangement. Totsl donations recenied
during the year amounted lo £573.65412024.' £503,868). Addltionally. a small and Variab￿ Ir￿me is
derived from letting out the church bulldlng. rent from olhar residentlal properties not currenlly
required as houslng for relevant stsff but we do not aim to bg reliant on any of thls uncertain form of
Income. During the y6ar the charitablg company ￿1Ved rent from letlirKJs amounting to £19,665
12024.. £33.8071.
ReseNes pollcy
Excluding interest-fm loan8 made for the purchase of 88 Upper Park Road and 19 Parfiament CourL
totalling £164,000 (2024.. £194.0001, which are repayable on 24 months, prior written notice. the
arxounts show a net current assel posltlon of £682,48412024= £179,998).
Our aim is to repay th8 above loans wlth any surplus generdl4)d.
The tN8tees recognise that until this reduction in debt has taken pl8ce Sl John's will carry no
reserves, beyond what is de8m8d reasonably prudent for the ongoing da1￿ costs of the ministry of Sl
John's.

team who were aiso responsible for overseeing the Sunday and Wednesday evening calerlng. Food
safety and hygiene guidelines are clearfy posted in tha kftchen and new volurrteeis in the kitchen are

The trustees (who are also the directors of St John's Downshire Hill for the purwses of company law)
are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Annual Report financial statements in ac￿rdanc￿ with the
United Kingdom ALrountlng Standards (United Kingdom Generally Acceptsd ACCOUn￿n9 Practko).
Company law requires the trustees to prepare accounts for gach financial year which give a true and
fair view of the stste of aff8irs of the charitable company as al the balance sheet date aNI of its

Wales under the Companies Act and registered as a charity in England and Wales. The companys

its prinapal activities are set out in the Trustees, R6port on pages 3-9.

The flnanclal statements ar8 drawn up on the golng concern basis which as$um8s St John's

months from the date of approval of these financial ststen*nts. The trustees have given due
consideration to the worklng capital and cash flow requirements of St John's Downshire Hill. The
trustees consider St John's DownshSre Hill's curr&nl arKI forecast cash resourcas lo be sufficient to
cover th8 working capital requirements of the chanty for the for8seeable future.

St John's Downshlre Hill partiopates in the Church of England Funded Pension Scheme for
stipendiary dergy for ￿ members (2024.. Iwo members). Thls scheme Is admlnistered by the Church
of England Pensiorts Board. whlch ￿ldS the assets of the schem8 separately from those of tho
Responsible BIKlies.
Each partrcipating Responsible Body in the Church of England Funded Pensions Stheme pay8
contriblrtions at a common contribution rate applied lo pensionable stipends.
The soheme is consrdered to b8 a multiv8mpk)yer scheme as desuibed in Section 28 of FRS 102. It Is
not p085ible lo attribute the Scheme's assets and liabilities to each spectfic Responsible Body, and
thrs means contributlons ar8 accounted for as rf the Scheme were a d&fined contribution scheme. The
pensions costs charged to the SOFA In th8 year are contributions payable towards ben8frts and

A valuatlon of the Scheme carried out once every three yoars. The 2021 valuation showed tho
Scheme to be fvlly funded. The most recent Scheme valuation completed was carried OLrt at as 31
December 2024, and also showed tha Scheme tr) be fully funded,. as such in 2025, the deficit

The December 2024 valuation revealed a surplus of £560m, based on assets of £2,570m 8nd
lunding target of £2,010m, assessed using the followng assumptlons:
