OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Context
This year has seen the intensification of the hostile environmenl. Despite a change of Government
we have seen little encouragement for refugee rights and a rapidly growing backlog of people
awaiting an asylum appeal. For Hope Projects the year was marked by the tragic death of a much
loved resident. The effect of all of this, both pradical and psychological on all connected with Hope
has been profoundly challenging. Despite this we have continued to pursue our charitable
objectives.
Outcomes
Last year we provided 10104 nights of housing for 46 people, crisis grants of £84,055 to 125 people
with no other means of support and gave legal advice to 154 homeless refused asylum seekers. 18
of our Clients were able lo move on to slalutory housing and support., and 16, who had all been 'fully
refused, by the asylum system, were recogntzed as refugees and were able lo start new lives in
safety he￿ in the UK.
Reserios Pollcy
The term "Reserves" is used to descnbe that part of a charitls income funds that is freely available
for ils operating purposes not subject to commitments, planned expenditure and spending limits.
Reserves do not include endowment funds. reslricled funds and designated funds.
Deslgnated funds
Hope Projects has dasignaled funds of £50.000 lo cover the costs of providing essential services lo
our clients should our income become inlemjpled., and £20,000 lo meet any unexpected repair and
refurbishment cosls lo our properties.
Ro8•rve8
Hope Projects has sel a target for free resen￿$ (after designated funds) of 15% of our budgeted
expenditure for the following year. For this year that would be £68,338.
Our free reserves {after designated funds) al 311312025 were £184,159. We anticipate spending
significant amount of this on housing refurbishment next year.
Publlc benoflt
The public benefit that flows from objective al 18 increased safety and improved health for
beneficiaries in receipt of accommodation and financial support, and a reduction is stre81
homelessness benefitting bolh recipients and the wider community.
The public benefit from obiective b) is improved health from increased engagement with primary and
mental health services., enhanced active cilrLenship', a contribution to the life of the region through
increased involvement in creative, sporting and educational aclivilies., and increased volunteering.
The public benefit from objective c) is increased engagement with asylum decision making and
improved asylum decision making, including the rectifying of miscarrtages of justice that would have
led to destitution or removal from the UK lo face likely persecution.
The public benefrt from objective d) is enhanced ¢ommunrty integration and raised awareness of
asylum related issueg.
No significant work was carried out under objectNe el.
Trustees are confident that significant public benefrt has flowed from Hope Projects, work in this
year, and that there has been no harm.
