Section D Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

K9 Crusaders has supported the local community by providing advice and taking in as many dogs as possible that were in urgent need of our help. We have maintained our commitment to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home local dogs through the difficult circumstances of the COVID pandemic and its aftermath.

## • **REHOMING**

Taking in unwanted dogs surrendered in Cornwall helping people in crisis, often who have suffered loss of home, bereavement or failing health.

## • **REHABILITATION**

We have rehabilitated dogs with physical and behavioural problems and endeavoured to re-home these dogs to new loving homes.

## • **WORKING WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES**

The charity has an established involvement with local Social Services and Police Departments and is regularly asked to help with animal cases in the knowledge that, borne out of experience, we provide safe, responsible and reliable support.

## • **WORK PLACEMENTS & COMMUNITY WORK**

Unfortunately, we were unable to accept work placements or go out to the Community during most of this period as a result of restrictions placed upon us by the COVID pandemic.

However we were able to continue our work within the Community, especially assisting those most in need, providing support and donations where possible.

## • **TELEPHONE ADVICE LINE**

Our advice line is open 24 hours for emergency calls. We provide help and support with anything dog related and have seen a huge increase in the number of people needing our advice during these difficult times.

## • **CHARITY SHOP**

The K9 Crusaders’ charity shop in Redruth, run entirely by our amazing volunteers, has been very popular and has continued to expand. Our shop is of course dog friendly and our Shop Manager, who is a dog trainer, is able to offer a “drop-in” service and give advice and help to anyone who has problems with dog related issues. The shop also provides opportunities for people to volunteer and gain new skills, as well as increasing confidence and reducing isolation. Sadly, the pandemic restrictions forced us to close the shop for several months which badly affected our income for the year.

## **FUNDRAISING**

K9 Crusaders is funded entirely by public donations and any grants they are able to secure. The K9 Crusaders Fundraising Committee and volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring in funds by various and varied means as listed below. The efforts of our volunteers and supporters have been invaluable during these difficult times when a great deal of our events have been unable to take place during the pandemic.

- Volunteers have organised on-line events including auctions and photo competitions.

- K9 Crusaders were delighted to be selected once again by our local Pets at Home store as their Charity of the Year. This was an exciting opportunity to work together with a specialist pet care business to raise funds and awareness. Despite being unable to attend the store due to the COVID restrictions we were still able to benefit from their Summer and Christmas fund-raisers.

- K9 Crusaders are also proud to be one of the beneficiaries of the Pets At Home VIP scheme which allows customers to nominate a local charity to benefit from points they receive on purchases. We then receive “Lifelines” which are vouchers to purchase food and accessories from the store.

- We also have had great support again this year from many local businesses who are more than happy to display our collecting tins on their counters and have donated items for our online auctions.
