and energy costs. The charity ha5 soughl to become MO￿ adaptable in responstr to these challenges. A new
>year strategy h8s been itllplemented based on 4 pSllèrs of being more re5pon5ive, supportive and being yet
rnorg responsible and sustainaNe.
During the year. Age UK Binningham 50ughtto diversify its funding sources, which became even rnor8 ifflportant
w!Ih the ènnouncemenl by Birmingham City Council that il had filed for section 114. It is positive lo note that
thin we8ks the welcom8 news was ￿CeIved that recent bids to renew our core swices had been successful
and renewed for the next 3 years.
During the year. the ¢harSly undertook 8 review of fts policies, procedu￿$ and govemance to ensu￿ the
ciganisation kept P8¢e with post covid operating environment. This review was also excellent preparation for
the Age UK CQS quality asspssrnenlwhich was held in May 2024 with the rharity being successfully accredded.
As Chair, it has been heartwamiing to witness the (Jedication of our etnployees and volunieers. Whi15t living
with the Cost of li￿n9 and Cornmissi￿er Ehallenge5 Into lh8 n&xl finanGial year, the Board DI Trust88s are

The or9anisatlon started the financt81 year wth a new, clear 3 year strategy. The strategy 15 based on th• 4
k8y pillars of being more visibl8, more repre$entatSve. more responsive and supportive and to be more
responsible and sustainable. The ye8r also stsrted with little to no s￿n of the cost ol living crfsis easing for
old8r people and as a resutt tho organisalion fDcused on SUPPOning citlzgns and staff approprfatgly.
The year al$0 started wth an IrKrease to the natlonal Ilvlng wage. thrs meant that the organi5ation, like many
other charities was faced with trying to balance the bDoks the face of Increaslng overheads with no
s￿nifiCant uplfft In income and funding. As a result. the organisation rnade the ¢iffi¢ull dècision to rblwtanlly
sel a defi¢lt budget, bul with a COFTtnitrnent and plan lo overturn Ihe deficil by the year end. l am irntnens81y
pleased and proud lo say that desplte Ihe dirriculi start to the year and faced with a deficit budget we were
able to overturn the doffcit and then generate a modest surplus of £52,765. Thls exception81 r8$1Jtt was only
made possible because everyone in the org8ni3ation played thair part. worked hard and minimi58d cosls.
Well done everyone. thi$ was a real team effort and one that you should all be very prouol of.
Throughout the course of the year. and in a￿ effort 10 5UPPOrt as many older ppople as possible Ihrough the
cost of living crisis, the organisalion sought out additional funding. Thi5 additioftal income provided mo
benellts cheeks and benefits applications. supported older people bvith their increasing bi115 and helped them
to make their homes more energy efflc(ent. Fur￿8rS who svpported this work were National Age UK, The
Rothsay Foundatlon, EON and Birmingham Clly Council.
At th8 Start of the year the organlsation to)k tirne lo review Ils policie5, procedures and governance slructure
in a post Covid world, making necessary adju5trn8nts and modemising the way the or98nisation function5 on
B day-to-day basis. This rgview was also excellènl preparation for the upcoming Age UK CQS quality
assessFnent, which was initially scheduled for April 23, bul due lo varlous arcumslances an(5 after a further
nurnber of diary movements wa5 eventually Successfully completed in May 2024 with no Tnajor or rnlnor
concems highlighted.
As the year progressed new relationships were being built in Sandwell and with colleagu88 wilhin the NHS
8nd health se¢tors across the Midlands in line with the strategic plan. There were a nurnber ol important bids
av8loped for the existlng core servieès in Birrningham ol IAG and Community health anil wellbeing projects
85 w811 as a new social inclusion proj8Ct in partn8rship with Age Concern Birmingham.
As the year progressed mue corporate relationships were forged with organisations such as SKY and EE
and both organisations cornmitted to projects planna for the latter parts of the year.

As we mov￿1 into quarter 3 announcement was rnade that Blmingham City Council had fil￿ for seclicn
114, this anTh)uncernent sharpened our focus to diversify our funding SOLtrces and to build new and 185liry
relationship with as many Llfferent organisations and sect(Xs as we COL4d in line with our new strategy, to
retjuce our exposure to any changes to the frmding and support from &rmiwham City Council. Within weeks
of the se¢tion 114 annC1Jr￿rntnt, W8 received the weleorne news that our recEnt bids to renew our cue
services and the new Social ir￿luSic￿ project had been succe551ul and were now commi5510n￿ for the next
3 years. Follo￿ng a review of services in Sandwell by the Colmcil commissioners. the core servi¢e¢onlracts
for 23124 highlighted the exception31 work of th8 or9anization and as a res￿t ajl core sarvices were
recommissioned for 24125.
the year Came to a close, oJr corporate partners all catne together to deliver an exceptional Gift of
Chr15tmas woject to local old8r people. Their ccmtmned efforts saw thè ddivery of over 300 parce15. hampers
and presents to those Identifi￿ as being m05t in need. biinging rDu¢h needed festlV8 cheer and joy to the
most vulnoratAe citizens we have supported.
After the f85tive break and as the fina￿1￿ year drew to a closè the relatI￿shIpS built earlier in the year pai
dividend as new substantial projects were developed arKI tenders were prepared for submission in Sandw&ll
and Birmingham for new and exciting future projects. New partnèrships also started with Age CO and also
with Choose a Chdlenge. These new partnershlps are hoped to slowly generate much reeded unrestricted
income for the charity over the coming ynonth5 and years.
Over all 202> 24 was a particularly challenging year but une which saw the organisati1￿ rise. and grow

We launched the Dementia Carers Hub Project, through this initiatiV8, W8 provide essential tools and sUPPf
to unpaid earers who care for I￿lIvidual3 living wth dementia. Our team ensures that earers receive the
necessary resource5 while also taking care of themselves. During group sessions. we offer guidance and
support through gue51 speakers, open conversations. and awarenes5 sessions, Through these we strength
the resilienceof carers, enabling them to mee the challenges of being a carer, whilst also looking aftertheir own
health and wellbeing.
